Hello and welcome to how to use ExGFX! Let's get started!

What are ExGFX?
Well, these are graphics that are not in SMW. You use them if you don't want to replace the game's entire graphics. They can be used only for one level and for multiple levels. Some of them are used for sprites. Others for foreground and others for background. They can also be used for ExAnimating.

What will you need?
1. Your ROM Hack
2. Lunar Magic
3. Graphics, found in the "Graphics" section
5. (Optional) YY-CHR
6. Windows XP/Vista/7 (This tutorial mentions XP)

Inserting ExGFX
1. Backup your hack, just in case.
2. Open Lunar Magic.
3. Open your hack.
4. Click all the mushroom buttons from left to right (Quick Extract GFX from ROM -> Quick Insert GFX to ROM -> Quick Extract ExGFX from ROM -> Quick Insert ExGFX to ROM)
5. If you go to the folder, which contains your ROM, then you should see a folder called "ExGraphics" (case sensitive*). Open it up.
6. Copy the .bin file from the archive you downloaded from the "Graphics" section. Name it "ExGFXxx.bin" (case sensitive). In place of xx, you must put a hexadecimal number between 80 and FFF. DO NOT USE ANYTHING BELOW 80! Doing so will screw up your ROM.
7. Open up Lunar Magic and click the last mushroom button.
8. Click the red posinous mushroom. In case you're a colour blind, the tooltip is "Open 'Super GFX Bypass Dialog.".
9. Click on the check box. This should enable the graphics bypass for the level only.
10. The readme should tell you what slot to use. For example, the Hammer Bro., that comes with SpriteTool uses Sprite Slot SP3. So put its graphics in slot SP3. Some Every background will use BG1. Put its graphics in that slot.
11. Click OK and save the level.
* - If a word has one extra capital letter /eg. MArio/, then it will not be accepted. /Right: Mario, Wrong: MArio/.

These were the main steps. The steps below are only required if the graphics you are inserting are foreground/background.

1. Go to the Map16 Tilemap Editor. If you're lazy, it's the ? block icon on the toolbar.
2. Go to the page you want to add the graphics in. Pages from 0x003 to 0x03F are for Foreground. Pages 0x042 and higher are for Backgrounds.
3. Press the "Import Map16 tiles from file(s).".
4. Go to the drop-down list and change *.map16 to *.bin. (only if there isn't a .map16 file in the archive.)
5. Locate the "Map16Page.bin"* file. It doesn't have to be in the same folder as your ROM.
5. If everything is okay, then click the disk button to save the Map16 pages. Now your FG/BG graphics should be usable.

Note: Map16 files (the ones that are not BIN) save the page they're saved on. If your graphics have those, it is recommended to press the button with the red dotted square with an arrow on it, so the tiles are insterted at the current page. (Tooltip: "When importing tiles from .map16 files, enables placing them at the same location that they were originally exported from.")

*It doesn't even have to be named like that. But if the graphics are for an older version, it will be named like that.

That was it. If you encounter any error, restore from the backup and try again. If it doesn't work, post in this thread.
Thanks for reading and following! I hope that this was helpful!

Edit (28th June 2012): The tutorial is now better.

What.
Now that makes absolutely no sense.

The whole thing seems more like a step-by-step hold-your-hands type of deal, you didn't really explain anything and what it does, you just said "do x, do y, do z".
That is bad.
I don't see how this is superior to this. Or hell, even this. Maybe if you added pictures and went further in-depth with each step than either of the aforementioned tutorials did, then it could be pretty good. As it sits now, though, it's pretty minimal as far as assisting with ExGFX is concerned.
Meh, spam-clicking "Insert ExGFX Button" doesn't really work when your graphics are compressed in a 3bpp format. Just make sure that your graphics are compressed at least in 4bpp format and you won't really have to spam-click the "Insert ExGFX" button.
And, when you first press the Blue Mushroom button, the message which appears is a warning one, not properly an error.
And I noticed the last thing. Some of your instructions may let a ROM to screw up, like this:

Beware when you say this. If you have your GFX still in 3bpp format, your game will glitch completely!

1. I don't really see "spam-click". :P
2. If you read the tutorial, I told users to extract the normal graphics, so they can re-insert them when they do the quoted thing. Sure, I will bold the step so users can see.

It did. I recall reading something similar when I first read the post. I think you just edited it out.
Whenever I put ExGFX, a message 4bpp graphic format, and I can not get this message this message if I click "yes" graphics are horrible. WHAT DO I DO?

Wrong. The right is click on the mushrooms in that order: red, green, blue and yellow, OR red, blue, green and yellow. So you'll not have problems with the graphics anytime. But anyway it's a good tutorial at all...

Also, Fellipe, I think than you do want to click in the green mushroom. If this doesn't work, start passing your levels and OW to another ROM... It's crapped...

Right. Read the step that's in big font. It's like that so people can see it.

Send me a PM and I will send you the original AllGFX.bin. Forget this.
Didn't you read step 4(?)? It says to extract your graphics first.

Edit: Fixed something. Whoops...
Edit 2: Don't flame, spam or tell me other things. I send the guy a PM, so I can port the hack for him, if he wants to.
