Wait a second, ShadowFire composed? well, who knew? certainly not me
Anyway, i start composing around 2-3 weeks ago, and have got 2 songs to show for it. F.Y.I, i use Anvil Studio if anyone's wondering
This piece of shit, and This piece of- actauly, that last one wasn't too bad, i suppose.
(i say mish-mash, since these are just random notes strung together in a not-so burn-your-eardrums way)
....so. feedback, i suppose?

I'd have to disagree. The first one isn't bad and is actually interesting, while the second one is pretty bad. The main issue isn't so much as the notes in the separate channels, but the combination of the channels mostly.
test2: While more repetitive than the second one, this one has more going for it. The first one doesn't suffer from the same sort of dissonance heard in the second one, which really puts it above. Quite honestly, I don't really have anything to complain about here, aside from the repetitiveness of it and a little quirk. It's nice, but the way the beats sound like they should be a beat ahead from where they are just bugs me (it's such a small personal quirk, though, so you don't need to worry about it). You could try taking this song to the next level if you want, as the little bit that's there sounds really cool.
Bell Tower: Honestly, it sounds like notes randomly jumping around. The bell that throughout the background I kind of like, though the way it ascends from those lower notes sounds weird... However, I'm pretty sure that's more of a problem with the actual instrument. As for the little bit at the very beginning that loops around, as stated, it sounds like it's jumping. There also appears to be a harmony made of notes... a semitone apart? Also, at 0:43, the accidentals at the end of the two little melodies are awful and should be changed. I don't advise using an accidental. I did like the overall harmony with the flute at that point, though.
The first one is fairly good (really good, considering you've just recently begun composing), though the second needs some work. Don't ever feel discouraged, though - I used to get very discouraged when people would downright point out every flaw in my compositions, but it's only helped me get better. Just keep at it. While it may not come quickly, after a while you'll get the hang of things and just naturally learn what sounds good and what doesn't.

Thank you. Even though i didn't fully like the first one(i preferred the second one) its nice to know someone has a different opinion then you.
Thanks for the constructive criticizm. I think i'll just leave the second alone, and try again later.

I like the first one, it's just really short. Still, it's a nice little riff that could probably stand to be expanded on.
Mixed feelings on the second one. I like the overall feel of it, but it gets a bit monotonous by the halfway mark or so. Like maybe the bell melody could've varied at some point or cut out with another instrument filling its place.
Anyway, not bad for just starting. Keep at it. I'd also suggest reading up on music theory at least a little if you're mostly unfamiliar with it and have the time to spare. Jumping straight into composition without taking the time to learn theory rarely works very well. Unless you're ZUN, but even he probably knows at least some.

^My personal favorite of what you've showed me thus far.
I know I've been handing out feedback on the last two via IRC, but I may as well make my opinions public.
I actually like "Bell Tower" much better than "test2" (it was actually called "Sunset Shrine" .. I think?). It seems you'll be receiving some rather varied opinions.
As for this one, it is again my favorite so far. I'd say my biggest problem with your songs are that they're a bit TOO "mish-mashy" (in other words, these feel too "random", so-to-speak). You'd probably benefit from knowing at least a tiny bit of music theory - it's not nearly necessary to get a music major before you start (trust me, I learned that the hard way), but anyone will be a better composer once they have a tiny bit of insight on exactly how music works.
That's all I really have to say for now. Takeoff was just the hardest thing ever for me, but trust me - it was worth every last bit. Persevere and you might just end up as pretty skilled.

Well i havent really composed anything new, but when downloading a midi of a dk64 song, i realized it was a shitty midi.....
......so i fixed it. and made it better, imo of course
i went from this, to [http://bin.smwcentral.net/u/15781/Monkey%2BSmash.mid]this[/url], cutting the channels from 9 to 5, chaning the tempo slightly and making it sound more like the original song
I guess that means im a remixer of sorts? i dunno, what do you think of the new(second) midi?

I need somewhere to dump this shit.
Errrrr i mean i have some new compositions? i don't expect anything good because i was just screwing around in Anvil.
The first one. 2 channels of whole notes. Yeah, thats it.
Second. Just playing around.
Third. I don't know it just sounds....idk, wierd?
I will keep playing around in Anvil, so expect more shit to come along.
I don't expect any positive feedback, so just tell me how to improve and stuff.
