So I got the same typical malware that my parents get a lot: a fake antivirus/antimalware program that is easily deleted.
The program closed out Firefox and immediately began it's fake scam, and I opened Malwarebytes and deleted it within 2 minutes. During the Malwarebytes scan I also reopened Firefox.
After the thing was gone, I tried to open Avast to do a thorough scan, and I got this picture:

I know how file association works, but I have no idea how this works with .exe files or how to fix this problem.
Also my computer claims C:\Windows\regedit.exe no longer exists, but I highly doubt that.
Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, if version is relevant.
EDIT: Forgot the program name: it's Win 7 Home Security 2012.
EDIT AGAIN: Nevermind, fixed the file association problems.

I have this problem with my old computer, PLUS my old computer (Compaq With Windows Vista...) will not download any files... at all. Could someone please explain why this is so? Thought I would post in this thread rather than making a new one.

Well, you do good because you recycle threads
And, for your problem, try downloading ComboFix from another computer to a flash drive or something like that.
That program always works for me...

Sorry, but I have to hijack my thread back.
It seems there some other main file (that's avoiding my anti-spyware and anti-virus) that is redownloading and reinstalling this program at its leisure, because I've just removed the same program and fixed the same file association errors for the 3rd time.
I'm going to try a system restore from a few days ago and see if that works. (I haven't done anything non-internet in the past few days, so it won't hurt anything.
I don't know exactly what will happen with my dropbox file during this time, so if a few things break, that's why.

Something fucked with the registry associations.
I can't remember how I fixed this problem, been so long since I fixed Windows. Ask Mike, he's a good chap who knows.

The system restore seems to have solved the problem. I haven't had the program pop up all day today.
