Kim Jong Il, the leader of North Korea, has died at the age of 69

I guess it is just not a good year for evil rulers
Anyone who makes a 69 joke should go stand in a corner and think about what they've done like a good little boy. But in all seriousness, I hope North Korea becomes a respectable place now that Kim Jong is dead. Hopefully another douchebag won't takeover now.

Still waiting for Fidel Castro to die, though. I really hope he dies on
Christmas, because that'd be just amazing for me and my family.
What a way to go out though. "Overwork" caused a heart attack. In the eyes of the media, he died by working too hard to help his people. I don't know if to give him props for dying that way, or laugh for being dictator and dying in such a pussy way.
Wasn't really expecting this to be honest, but even if it's somewhat weird to say (I didn't really knew much about him, just heard a few things), I'm glad he's gone after all these horrible years of the North Koreans. Hopefully his successor won't be like him at all, although I'm not sure how things work in a (special in many ways) country like North Korea.
Uh, yeah, it's about to get real,
watch me snap into a slim jim, Kim Jong Il,
I don't like to hit little bitches with glasses
but when midgets step up, I stomp midget asses

Don't really know what to say to this. I don't know much about him other than that he was an ass so good riddance I guess?

Before we break out the bubbly, we better hope that whoever becomes his successor doesn't do an even worse job of leading.
He died as he lived, looking at things.
Kim Jong Il was a terrible person. I'm sure no one will miss him. Some interesting facts...

*In the early 1990s, it was confirmed by Hennessy that Kim Jong Il was its best customer, spending about $600,000-$850,000 annually on the liquor.

*He maintains a city that was built just to be looked at.

*He had disabled and short people deported from his capital.

*He once kidnapped a prominent director to film a Godzilla ripoff for him.

There is a plethora of other stupid shit he's done... these are just examples.

You underestimate his cult of personality.

Plenty of north Koreans will miss him. This dude ran an extremely successful propaganda campaign to make himself look like the best guy ever. North Korea's been through a ton of crap (much, but not all due to incompetent leadership) yet he still had tons of support.

You might see some pictures/videos of people crying about his death. These are not fake (unless they come directly from the north korean government, anyway). That is the kind of dystopia North Korea is.

Anywho let's just hope whoever succeeds him isn't a nutcase. Say what you want about Kim Jong Il being evil, he wasn't stupid; those primitive nukes they made were not going to be used on anyone for anything other than intimidation. Get someone trigger happy though, and North Korea will be a hole in the ground.

Other thing you have to remember about Kim Jong Il is he wasn't the president of North Korea. He was head of the armed forces and of the Communist party in North Korea not head of the state. His dead father was/is still the president which is kinda creepy to be a country that literally has a dead president.

He wasn't the president, yes he was the leader of the armed forces, but he was a dictator. And was ruling North Korea with an Iron fist.

Actually when the president of the United States or anyone else wrote a letter to Kim Jong Il they didn't address him as dear Mr. President they simply addressed him as dear Mr. Chairman. Because even though he was more or less the leader his dead father was/is still considered the actual president of North Korea.

Oh, I didn't know that!
Wow this guy was insane, I am glad he is finally dead, I was wondering when he was going to die. I mean it's awful to hope someone will die, but hell he was way out of line.
Good night, sweet prince.
Kim Jong-il is dead!!
But your son Kim Jong-un is the new dictator!!

He'll make any bad thing like your father?
Or not?

I'm curious as to whether societies like North Korea can survive the 21st Century. Modern communications are becoming ubiquitous.
