Welcome to Vanilla Flavour! (Tentative Title)
Vanilla Flavour is a choco-nilla hack, and will be a collection of a few random levels I will make.
The story will be very minimal, with the hack focusing on Level design and Aesthetics.

The hack will be split into 5 worlds. After you complete an introductory level - the player will have the option to
travel to either of 4 islands - "Desert", "Jungle", "Icy Mountains", or "Industrial Caves". Like SMW2+3,
The islands can be completed in any order. Once all islands are complete, Mario will be able to travel to the final world in the hack.
Each world will have 5 levels, 4 of which have to be played, and 1 is secret in each world.

The world themes are a little generic, I suppose, but I do have some good ideas for some levels.
The secret levels are NOT marked on the map, and the levels with secret exits will NOT be marked, much like NSMBW. This is
so that the secrets are actually secret. Plus, you may be able to work out which levels have secret exits. There is, however, only
one secret exit per world.

Because of this, the first level in each world will be very easy, while the last and secret levels in each world will be slightly harder +
longer. The secret level will also be more gimmicky than the other levels.

Here is the progress so far:

Overworlds: 4/4 Main
Image Maps are added to each of the overworlds! Simply hover over
the level name, and the tooltip will display the level name. If any screenshots/videos
have been posted about that level, then, that section will also link to that as well.
Think of it as like a 'Contents Page'. :D

Hey, JDC's got a new hack. It looks nice and a great sequal to Chocolate Flavour!

From what you've shown, the submaps look very nice, and I hope to see more of the levels soon.

Great job!

EDIT: What a {instert userbar type here} Userbar?

Thank you for your comment! :)

This isn't meant to be a full on sequel to Chocolate Flavour, but just a one off hack with a bunch of (hopefully) fun levels to play. However, like Chocolate Flavour, the story will be minimal to favour upon gameplay.
I started this, as Yoshi was corrupt in my Memory Stick, and I don't
feel like starting that again, so...

I'm also glad you like the submaps. I don't particularly like designing them, but I decided to get them done, if you know what I mean. :)

I started designing that 'Frozen Fantasy' level a while back. I don't know if you have seen the video link in the first post or not, but you can check it out if you want. I was inspired by 1updudes Snowy level, and decided to make one of my own.
I should have a full completed version of that level by Christmas. :D

I have made a userbar just now, actually. Thanks for the offer, though! :)

Thanks!

Those submaps told me to comment on this hack; everyone knows I love overworlds! :P
Great submaps! Your style of making overworlds has changed a lot, and I like the submaps very much. The world themes are pretty cool, and the overworld is very well decorated. Incredible palettes! I always liked your palettes, you make them really well!
How many hacks did you start and didn't finish already
Looks like a very nice hack JDC. Those submaps also looks really nice. I like their palettes.

@Teo17, don't worry, I cancelled much more hacks. XD
Those submaps look fantastic and your level design is excellent. Keep up the great work! #w{=D}

I added the userbar to my bio. :)
Too bad that you lost your progress on Yoshi, I liked that hack.

However this one looks really nice too, with great palettes and level design, from what I can see.
The submaps (and OW borders) are also pretty good: I like how the themes represent four different colors (violet, red, green and light blue) (I hope that this does make sense)
Then, speaking about Frozen Fantasy, I must say I love the way it looks like you're sinking in the snow: that's really creative!

Thanks guys :) Your comments are much appreciated.

@Lui37 - I know. I quite liked working on Yoshi, so it's
a shame it's gone now. Hopefully this'll be good enough, though. The submaps weren't actually supposed to represent any colours, but I guess it turned out that way. :P

@MarioFan22 - Thank you for the support!

@Wormer21 - Thanks! I'm glad you like the submaps. I'm pretty tired of making the submaps now, so I'll leave the last ones to later. (I still need to make a submap for the intro and end levels, and the 'World Select' Submap). I'll carry on with levels for now!

@Teo17 - Heh, I've cancelled quite a few hacks now, haven't I? :(
I guess it can be a downer, but I have motivational surges. (Assuming such a thing exists of course). I'm very happy you like the submaps. I have quite liked your work with overworlds, and you are probably someone I look up to in that category, so it's an honour to see you
like them :)
I was trying a different style with making these; that is adding more mountains. I hope it paid of, anyway, as I spent a lot of time on them.

Anyway, I have some level progress this time! Don't worry, it isn't another level. It's actually a bonus sublevel for Frozen Fantasy.
I was using the transparent effect here to provide a cold looking cave.

I was partially inspired by Level 1D in SMW for this sublevel, as it used the carrot ledges. I haven't used them in any levels I have made before, so I thought it'd be good to try making a sublevel using only those sprites.

Please ignore the random mushroom at the top. I disabled Layer 3 so you can get a better view of the screenshot. I may do that
for some other images too, by the way.

What do you think?

I think it looks great ^^
I like that ice cave. A lot. Very cool. The goal gate tiles remind me of candy canes, and they really complement the chilly look.

Gripe? The orange-brown dirt of the carrot top lifts looks out of place. Change it to a uniform shade of blue, gray, or teal.

I actually like the ledges as they are, really. I was worried it'd be a bit too blue otherwise, and I don't want the level to be mono chromic.
I like the level so far. Looks kinda inspired from Chocolate Island 4. The palette is also pretty nice. The only thing I dislike is the floating mushroom in the "item box". Are you going to remove it completely? If not, better add something. A random floating shroom doesn't look best. :P

I disabled layer 3. I said that in my post above. ^^
I'm completely reworking the status bar.

EDIT: Update :)

A desert level which uses Layer 2. There's no layer 3 again, but I'm
going to make a custom Layer 3 BG for this, so it doesn't look boring.

I'm using castle enemies here, as they quite fit the theme I'm going
for.

Looks really good so far. I agree, a BG is in need here.
I like where this is going so far. That desert level looks great, and so does everything else. As for the Frozen Fantasy, maybe tone down the color so it looks more like ice if that is what you were going for. Can't wait to see the BG of that deser level.
@Wormer21: Yeah, I know. I'm going to learn how to insert my own for this level since it is looking a little bare.

K.K.Koopa: I'll tone down the palette for Frozen Fantasy. :) Thanks.
AS I said, I'm going to insert my own once I learn how

More Screenshots of Dusty Dunes:

I'm using the rock layer 3 thing as a placeholder for now.

So, merry christmas! I hope you had a good day today! :D

Merry Christmas video

Here is a half done video of Frozen Fantasy. I wanted to finish it, but I didn't have time. It'll be the secret level of the icy world, and will be
moderately difficult. (for me anyway).
The second half will be a little more non-linear by the way, and will feature scrolling snow as layer 2.

Please ignore:
-Mario's Palette on the OW
-The blocks as you hit them (flash orange)
-The moles (I plan to remove them) + Any slowdown with them
-The pipe cutoff before the bonus area (Forgot to fix that)

Nice palettes! Cool you used Ladida's falling leaves sprite here. =) Well, I'm really the only one person that has problems with inserting it...

You did pretty cool things with the layer priority here, I like it very much. Nice stuff! Good work and keep it up! =)
Looks very nice. I also like what you did with the layer priority. It makes the level a bit more challenging. I like what you did so far.
Thank you. The leaves thing isn't too bad once you get it to work. :)
I have fixed most of the above errors, and I'm pretty much done with the second half. I'm not going to spoil the whole level though, as I want you to see for yourself when you play the level.

Anyway, things aside, I have started working on the world select overworld. This will be the screen that'll let you pick from either of the 4 worlds and complete them. I'm not too happy with this, but it is good enough, as I have had to mix 4 themes into one submap.

I don't know if It'll be better if I swapped the desert and Ice palettes. What do you think?

By the way, the level tile is a "Toad Town" area and the switch at the top is the final level. You'll need to beat the other 4 worlds before entering that, though!
