Tip: If it's possible to carry a tileset-specific sprite (such as a Buzzy Beetle or Bob-omb) through a pipe, make sure it has the correct graphics and sprite palette on the other side!
Modding a PS2 to Play PS1 Games off USB

I'm fairly certain that this isn't breaking any rules and is in the correct section of the site. If I am wrong, I apologize in advance.

I do not have a game controller for my computer, and I don't really like using my sister's modded PSP for playing PS1 games because it doesn't have the second set of shoulder buttons or the right analog stick.

What I would like to do is get my PlayStation2 to play PS1 games off of a flash drive. The controllers are identical, it's connected to an actual TV so there should be no graphics problems or anything, and it would prevent me from having to deal with burning discs and swapping them around and the constant skipping from my ancient PS1.

The thing is, I have no idea where to look for information on doing so. I have tried GBAtemp and found something called "Free MCBoot", but I don't know if that's what I want. I do not want to play burned PS2 discs, but PS1 games of a flash drive.

I don't have any special equipment to be able to do anything like this. I only have at my disposal an unmodded PS2 slim (SCPH-75001 model), an official PS2 Memory Card, a MadCatz PS1 Memory Card, and a handful of flash drives. I do not have SwapMagic, ActionReplay, GameShark, etc. I also do not have anything that will connect a Memory Card of any kind to a PC.

I also have a handful of PS2 games. I have heard that for some things you have to switch out discs from certain games to discs with a special program burned onto them. My games are Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, and ReCOM, .Hack//GU Volumes 2 and 3, FFX and X-2, and DDRMAX.

If I also need a PS1 game for any reason, I have Final Fantasy Tactics. That's it. I admit, I would be playing downloaded games, mainly Final Fantasy 8 and 9. I am not asking for ROMs or ISOs, I simply would like to get PS1 ISOs to run off a flash drive in a PS2, so it should not be breaking any of the rules on this forum.

If anybody could please help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for any help you can provide.
I got This from a quick google search. Hope it helps.

Thank you for your help, but my problem with MCBoot is that I don't have any games that will allow it to install, and I don't have SwapMagic/Action Replay/GameShark/etc. to install it with either. I was kind of hoping for an alternative that only requires the things I already have available. If I were to have to purchase any special equipment to try and set it up, I would probably just buy a PC controller instead and stick with an emulator. I'd just need to prop my laptop on a book so it can vent without overheating and shutting down.

I'm kind of afraid of sounding a bit petty at this, but are there any other methods out there? I haven't been able to find anything, and I would really appreciate this. I am happy that you found that for me, but I would really rather just run it off the USB if it's possible. If it isn't, then it would be a bit of a disappointment, but I'd probably just try looking into something else. (I do recall seeing a computer at the college hooked up to a television. If I could set up my laptop to do the same, and got a controller for it [hopefully for Christmas], I could probably get the same general effect as a working PlayStation.)
