I come bearing more gifts.
I am releasing the game I've been working on and thought you may enjoy. Although it is pretty rough, I do plan to keep working on it to be improved based on the feedback I get. Laser Jam is a platformer that has you dodge security and traps set up by Dr. Laserbeard- he is that crazy, he has lasers for beards because he is that awesome.
Slight story: "You are the assistant to Dr. Laserbeard. Working on the most powerful security system in the world and potentially the most dangerous. While doing one final test, Dr. Laserbeard goes raving mad and locks you in the system to literally test the system. Now you must escape and stop his madness before someone gets hurt."
First of all, the graphics were all done by me. Yeah, please start laughing at how silly they look. On the bright side, I am looking for someone who would like to do some designing for objects and whatnot. The music is also a placeholder until I find something a bit more custom and suitable. I would also like to see if anyone would like to compose some pieces if they would like to. While the main theme is "sneaking" and "getting past security", I am open to anything just about.
So if you would like to join and be a part of the credits then feel free to join and either draw or compose. I am not sure how big I'll make it but I am open to ideas by other people.
Without further ado, the download link: Merry Christmas!
As a "demo", there's 5 levels following some test ones I left in which are pretty tricky. There is some debugging keys as well. You will have to find them if you want to use them.
The zip comes with two documents that explain what I aim for and hopefully I can make something fun of this yet. Enjoy!

The number of views/responses this has gotten for this is quite sad.
Anyway, I downloaded this on christmas but forgot about it until a few hours ago (D:), and I just finished playing it. It was quite fun, and I liked being able to pick from the different paths.
The difficulty was good as well, but I can't say much about any sort of difficulty curve since is just a small demo. However, the beginning section, moving from where you start to the left wall, caused more deaths and game overs then everything else in the demo.
Can't say anything about the music. It fits to me, but that's not my area of expertise.
So graphics. I booted up GIMP and made some graphics for a few of the things in the game. Look at them. :V

EDIT: Bumping this to the top got it ~8 more views. lol

OK, I just finished this game. It has very awesome physics and technicals programmed, but the difficulty was a tad too high for me. There were some unfair moments, like the end of the second floor. But this game is great nonetheless, good job!
(I like the music when you get a game over xD)

I'll PM the package I used and you can replace them and send your package. Blocks are 20X20 and the player is 20X40 - his collision box is actually a few pixels lower. The ducking graphics must also be 20X40 because otherwise he will get stuck. The collision box for ducking however is 20X20. I'll tell you more in a PM.
Thank you two for the posts and thank you grishnax for reminding me to check here. I would have forgotten this thread for awhile. Then again, sadly this forum has a low posting rate normally.

By the end of the second floor, do you mean the end of the official demo or the end of the "tests". There is one part where it is in the tests, pretty unfair as you could easily fall to the bottom and need to start all the way over. However, those are not real levels. Those merely are tests to test extremes of their use. Which is why they are "Floor ?".
The difficulty is still a work in progress as if I wanted, which is evident in the tests, I could make it one of those "tough" games. Alas I decided to not do so. Although I could make a difficulty option to suite the needs of hardcore and casuals alike. I am sometimes in the middle or higher.
And I am still looking for a music composer. Although I have been thinking of experimenting recently...and you know what that left the graphics as. XD
Currently I've temporarily got piece that comes from Haxo-JJ that I've found long ago and liked it. However, this is only until I find someone who wishes to make some music for each floor and boss.
If someone wishes to compose, I have the following ideas for parts of the game:
intro - could be anything that sounds good actually. I am not sure yet.
Floor 1 - "Test Chambers", something kind of like the Spybreak but perhaps more fitting?
Floor 2 - "The Factory", factory themed
Floor 3 - "The Office", something either office themed or fitting.
Floor 4 - "The Madministrator", something either military themed or perhaps even sinister/leaderish.
Floor 5 - "The Scraped Brain", something fitting for machines and whatnot. Maybe even a remix of Floor 2 but more mechanical.
Floor 6 - "The Top Floor Final", something fitting for a "final" area.
Floor X - "Secret", I'll PM my ideas for this later.
Boss 1 - "Laserbeard's Attempt on your life", be creative here.
Boss 2 - "Laserbeard overworks the facility", boss theme with maybe a factory remix?
Boss 3 - "Laserbeard doesn't pay you enough", boss theme with an office remix possibly.
Boss 4 - "Laserbeard wishes to rule the world", boss theme mixed in with some Floor 4 styling.
Boss 5 - "Laserbeard has gone too far", boss theme that is much more different than the rest. Be creative here.
Boss 6 - "So you think can defeat Laserbeard finally?", boss theme that is totally epic. It has to be that last ounce of amazing you can compose.
The above styling can be applied to the graphics as well. Laserbeard himself is still yet to be drawn to my liking but needless to say, he is a sinister mix/reference of Dr. Robotnik, and Dr. Wily, and Razorbeard (from Rayman 2, the name Laserbeard is somewhat of a sign). I don't know why but I like what I've turned him into.
I've been thinking of this game a lot recently and I've had a few ideas with what to do with Laserbeard. For the longest time since making this game for my class, I've included him into my "Dimension Project lore". He has developed an interesting secret role.
MORE STORY!
Originally posted by Laserbeard's StoryDr. Fixum "Laserbeard" Botman, has been developing security for Dimensional Science for quite some time. However, lately he has been a bit more crazy than usual.
Dr. Botman has surgically attached a laser generator to his chin, making him renowned as Dr. Laserbeard. Ever since then, he has been quite insane and seemingly more sinister for some reason. Lately he has went as far as locking the entire staff of Dimensional Science in his security system. You must save them from his insanity and stop this madman!
I've got some plans to also change a bit of the gameplay to perhaps include some RPG elements. Not enough to turn it into an RPG but things that are also normal for some platformers to include. There will be enemies and such so it will be interesting to come up with ways to get past/defeat them. After beating the mid level of the floor (3 or maybe 4), you may meat up with a midboss. The theme played is the boss theme for that floor. At the end of the floor, you get to fight Laserbeard in many ways. Some of his tactics of killing you of course include lasers and whatever common obstacle the floor used.
I have some plans but I am open to ideas as well. There is also one big secret but I don't want to spoil it now. ;D
For anyone who does join the team or wishes to, I will recommend joining Dimension Project so you can post in the development forum I created (I need to add permission for you to see it) and get everything organized. There is also a discussion forum I'll create a bit later once I get all the ideas together.

Sounds awesome. However, I can't really draw humanoid characters to save my life. But I can try. :D

Hey, it can't be any worse than the player/guards we have now, right? XD
I also forgot to mention sound effects and Game Over. I think the Game Over will stay for now since it is epic. Either that or I need to get someone to sing something ridiculous to the player that will almost make them want to die. The sound effects are okay but if someone has some interesting ones they have then feel free to share.
In a game like this, you may die a few times but it is okay because you never need to start all the way over unlike some classics and because I may incorporate something interesting soon. ;)
I have also been debating whether or not this game is suitable for the life system it currently has. I want to include perhaps a health or hit system where you can find powerups to increase your survivability chances without allowing you to just facedive over lasers. LASERS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DEADLY. XD
So perhaps I will keep lasers instant killing ability and everything else kill you in two/four hits until you find things like hearts or shields to temporarily and permanently increase health/hits.
Lava will also be instant kill. Spikes will be instant kill until a bit later. There will be some interesting methods of killing enemies later on. You may have been experimenting with making the guards chase you towards spikes. Quite funny, I need to give them sound effects too.
I will try to work on some AI and see if I can come up with some interesting bosses and enemies. I have 20 different boss ideas and I've been trying to organize them by difficulty and the theme of the floor. You may notice that the guards are pretty basic with following you. Somewhat like Minecraft mobs. I want to give them abilities like climbing and some more player actions. Should be fun to code!

Is this ridiculous enough?

While the placeholder is already ridiculous, I think I could go even more so. Then again, I am having some second thoughts on this and how Game Over is handled. Instead, I should actually instead go with something epic and it slowly fades to grim following "It is a shame your adventure ended here!"
