Rebuilding my retro collection [Updated 11/1/2012]

As of late, I've been looking online for carts of games I've owned as a kid and then some. I never owned Yoshi's Island, Megaman X2, X3, DK64, Majora's Mask and a few others which I thought was unfortunate. As a child I owned ~20 N64 games, ~80 SNES games and ~30 NES games, ~20 Genesis games, my goal for 2012 is to obtain as many of those as possible again as well as others.

Warning: Each image was taken by a 10.2 megapixel camera and are only linked. Pardon the slow load times if you have a slow internet speed.

______________________________________________________________________

NES

- Gradius (NES): Got this one online for about $5 off amazon as well. No box which kinda sucks but I'll manage.

- Mega Man 2 (NES): Shipping Soon!

- Mega Man 3 (NES): Shipping Soon!

- Mega Man 4 (NES): Shipping Soon!

- Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt (NES): This came bundled with a NES buy from ebay.

- Super Mario Bros 2 (US)(NES): This also came bundled with the NES buy along with SMB1 and 3.

- Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES): I've been wanting this one for a loooooooooong time. I found it for $10 originally but some fuck upped the bid and I ended up having to pay $20 lol. Worth it though (IMO).

- Top Gun (NES): I've had this one forever and never took a picture hahaha.

______________________________________________________________________

SNES/SFC

- Darius Twin (SNES): The thing that sucks about Amazon is that there are like no images of the items for sale. I got this one for $13 at a gamble because the quality was only "acceptable" but included a box and manual.

- Donkey Kong Country (SNES): Got the cart as a bonus with DK64 but bought a box + manual for $10 separately. They're not in the best condition but I'd still prefer I had them.

- Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES): I'm surprised no one bid on this one. I ended up paying $11 for it.

- Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES): Bout fucking time this one arrived! The seller went inactive for a while lol.

- F-Zero (SNES): One of my favorites as a child and for cheap too. $12 :V

- Game Genie (SNES): Not really a game but I felt it was necessary to take a picture and post it here.

- Gradius III (SNES): I got this for $10 USD used on Amazon. Damn near perfect condition with manual and everything.

- Jurassic Park (SNES): Kind of an unknown game from my experience. I love the music in it though too <3 I got this one for $8.

- Lemmings (SNES): Another favorite puzzle game of mine. Stupid little creatures that wander off cliffs and you have to help them. U jelly Kipernal? =P

- Mega Man 7 (SNES): Found the box on ebay for $5, had to import it from Mexico. The seller made that box himself from scratch. The cart I got for a little less than $40 and the manual/sticker/cardboard insert was another $10.

- Mega Man X (SNES): This one was a tough get as well. Since I communicated with the seller so well, he offered to throw in a free SNES game with my order.

- Mega Man X3 (SNES): Holy fuck this one was tough to get, expensive as fuck too. Apparently one of the rarest SNES games as well as the rarest of the X series.

- Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES): Same picture as Mega Man X, no box or manual were included but I'm not complaining, free SNES game! :D

- Rockman & Forte (Super Famicom): Fucking finally!!!!!! AAAAHHH!!!! I have to use the game genie because I don't want to rip the tabs out of my actual SNES.

- Romancing SaGa (Super Famicom): Got 1, 2 and 3 bundled for $3 on ebay. No box or manual but meh. I'm not too big on RPGs but I pulled a "my mom", buying things just because they're cheap.

- Romancing SaGa 2 (Super Famicom): Part 2 of the series, duh. If I don't like the games I guess I can resell them for more than $3.

- Romancing SaGa 3 (Super Famicom): I've heard a lot of positives about this one. I also heard tons of awesome music from it. I'll need to get translations though.

- Space Invaders (SNES): Factory sealed, cheap too, I guess there wasn't much to offer in the game but oh well. I paid $4 for it!

- Super Mario World (SNES): And what's a SNES collection without this gem? No box or manual which sucks but I know very very very little people who initially had one

- Street Fighter II (SNES): I figured I'd get the normal one instead of the 3289743287 different versions of this game.

- Super Street Fighter II (SNES): Got this one for $10, I gave in. :V

- Super Mario All-Stars (SNES): I was the only one who places a bid on this and I got it for $23. Lucky me lol

- Tetris 2 (SNES): I forgot to update this one long ago and have had it for months before I took a picture.

- Tetris Attack (SNES): I never owned this game as a child but one of my friends introduced me to it a couple years ago. I ended up paying $12 for it on ebay.

- Yoshi's Island (SNES): This one set me back just a little, $41, damn ebay bidders. I never owned this as a kid but now I do! <:

- Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES): Very few people I know even know of this game's existence. It's a personal favorite of mine, hard as balls though.

N64

- Banjo-Kazooie (N64): Bought this from a local ebay seller for $12 and he didn't charge me a shipping fee! :> Alright condition and it plays just fine so I'm not complaining.

- Banjo-Tooie (N64): Kinda bright, might take another picture. Got this one from Canada for $20 CAD. I'm glad the shipping didn't take too long.

- Donkey Kong 64 (N64): Bought this a while back on Amazon for $21 and worth it but I really wanted the box and manual.

- Snowboard Kids (N64): Torn label but I did get it from a Goodwill for $1, rofl. No box or manual but meh.

- Snowboard Kids 2 (N64): This one was a tough get for $12 for me. I couldn't pass up that offer since it came with a collector's case, manual and everything.

- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64): My favorite Zelda game to date, I never actually owned a physical copy of this game.

Note: The ones listed below are separated due to me buying them at the same time with the N64 from a friend of mine. None of which have boxes or manuals.

Most of which I don't even play =P

- Army Men: Air Combat (N64)

- Army Men: Sarge's Hereos 2 (N64)

- Bomberman Hero (N64)

- Blast Corps (N64)

- F-Zero X (N64)

- Goemon's Great Adventure (N64)

- Goldeneye 007 (N64)

- Madden 2000 (N64)

- Mario Party 3 (N64)

- MRC (N64)

- Pilotwings 64 (N64)

- Pokemon Stadium (N64)

- Pokemon Stadium 2 (N64)

- Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue (N64)

- Starfox 64 (N64)

- Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer (N64)

- Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (N64)

- Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire (N64)

- Superman 64 (N64) roflrofloroflroflroflrfofoeof

- Super Mario 64 (N64)

- Super Smash Bros (N64)

- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

- Wave Race 64 (N64)

Genesis

- Altered Beast (Genesis): This came bundled with my Genesis when I bought that.

- Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (Genesis): Shipping Soon!

- Ecco the Dolphin (Genesis): The bane of my childhood. The first installment of perhaps the most difficult game series I've ever played. Got this for $15.

- Ecco the Dolphin 2: Tides of Time (Genesis): Shipping soon!

- Ecco Jr (Genesis): Shipping soon!

- Mortal Kombat (Genesis): Bundled with the Genesis when I bought it.

- Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis): Found this one at a goodwill for $1, I thought about selling it but I wouldn't get much for it regardless.

- Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis): Bundled with the Genesis when I bought it.

- Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Genesis): Got this one on ebay for $2, I felt it necessary to complete the Sonic 1 - 3, S&K collection.

- Sonic & Knuckles (Genesis): Never owned this one as a child but when I played it on virtual console I absolutely loved it. $12 for everything too.

- Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Genesis): Had to take a picture of the expansion resulting in an insanely long Sonic game.

...more to come. I'll try getting as many pictures as I can in as well.

Well obviously MM is a nice N64 title but lets not forget OoT.

It's very easy to get a copy of OoT...

Are you going for the box covers too? i would think that to be very difficult. Good Luck either way.

(hmm, i should try to get another copy of Conker's Bad Furday, i lost my old one years ago, and i would love to have that game again.)

Ebay is pretty much like the stock market, I wouldnt go looking for titles naer the end of the work week.
To catch some online sellers, selling what you want, try looking between sunday morning through late wednesday night.

Try picking up MMX3 and R-TYPE 3 third strike from jaleco.
The original "game maker" before iris took claim of their game again.

Yeah I'm gonna try to get the boxes and or manuals whenever possible to keep it "authentic". I have OCD when it comes to game cases lol. Also added a new game to the list.
I mentioned this site in the Bar & Grill, but this might be helpful to you. They have articles which point out cheap games and hidden gems (though some of them are Japanese) and I've found plenty of titles by reading them.
I've actually been finding really awesome deals on ebay. I just bought Tetris Attack for $12 with box and manual. I'm eying Yoshi's Island with box and manual for $10, MMX for $20 and I'm waiting for Banjo Tooie to ship. I also added two more games to my list.
Luckily enough, you live in the US, where games are five times cheaper than they are over here in Australia. Regardless, you can go to thrift stores and find games for mere dollars, ebay is a really inflated market.
Yeah I heard that games are mad fucking expensive in Australia which really sucks if you're a collector. Yeah thrift stores in the US are good places but the ones around my city suck. Goodwill is what we have here and there are about 6 near me, all of them have jack shit lol. If they do it's some Madden or other sports games. No boxes to boot. I'll probably stick to online shopping and negotiating with irl/online friends.
I hate sports games, they dominate the thift stores, showing you that there were once games, but a person bought them all before you and left the crappy FIFA, MADDEN or Golf games, fairly depressing.

We have a pawnshop chain called "Cash Converters" that goes throughout the country and almost always have retro stuff, but their prices are insane, for example; Smash TV for the NES in a destroyed box covered in masking tape to hold it together: $25
Yeah I know the feeling all too well Desert-fox.

also...

updated list!
A little suggestion:

I don't know if there is one in San Diego, but if you have a local Goodwill or a donation store, it's a gold mine for Video Games.

It ranges for NES games to DS games; I just bought NSMB for 1.99 =P
Goodwill is reliable like 10% of the time for me. As I said to Desert Fox, there are mostly sports games or games no one want. The nearest Goodwill to me is really small compared to the others in the city and I'd rather not have to travel 30km away to check a store that might have something. :\

Also, Updated list. DKC2, ZAMN and a few games I have shipping in. I'm currently bidding on SMAS and Lemmings 1 so wish me luck with that =P
You should totally go for the original Super Smash Bros, Starfox 64, Mario Kart 64, 007 Goldeneye, PilotWings, and Super Mario 64 for the N64 (coming from a huge 64 fanatic).
I actually have quite a few N64 games. I actually need to get Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 64, Majora's Mask, Smash Bros and Starfox 64. I have games like Ocarina of Time, Pilotwings, Goldeneye, Bomberman, etc... I just haven't gotten around to taking pics yet, I'll probably do that over the weekend.

In other news, got this one the other day, Jurassic Park (SNES)

Nice collection, I personally believe zombies ate my neighbors to the 2nd best snes game. I love it, and it's really fun, I beat the entire game, which was fucking hard.
Added Street Fighter II and a few others which have not arrived yet. I should expect them within a week or so.
DOUBLE POST!!!!!

Added Rockman & Forte, Super Mario World and Space Invaders. It'll be a good while before I get more SNES games. In the meantime I'll possibly get more N64 pictures in.
I agree, SNES Jurassic Park has pretty freakin' awesome music. :)
Try to track down a copy of Rocket: Robot on Wheels for n64. It was almost completely overlooked, but it's one of the best platformers on the system. Pretty sweet collection so far though.
