If you wish, smkdan provides a detailed description of how to do so here.
In other words, just log out. You can't delete an account, nor do you need to.

That is very depressing. Surely there must be a way. Can my username be changed, at least?

You can simulate having your account deleted on your end by having it disabled. However, the staff has said in the past they don't take ban requests.
So just log out.
(Also if just changing your account name would fix whatever problem you're having, and you haven't used your 1 name change, a PM to a staff member works)

If you really wish to have your name stripped and your account disabled, sure, we can do that. Just don't come running in two weeks having regretted your decision.
