When buying CD's, do you generally prefer the regular version or the censored version (if applicable)? Do you even care if a singer sings some bad words? Any censored songs you listened to that sound awkward due to the censorship methods?
I generally get the regular version if I can. Songs just aren't the same if you hear a sound effect bleep somewhere or a short, silent pause where the offending word would be. An egregious example of song censorship is 'What the Hell' by Avril Lavigne. The chorus says 'What the ___' but the song name is still the same. I don't get it.
I listened to Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani to count the instances of the 's' word. I counted 39. In Linkin Park's 'When They Come for Me' I lost count how many times they say "try to catch up motherf***er" tho they probably had a reason to cuss.

I prefer the regular version as you say. Is really not the same with the empty or boring awkward silents in between the songs. If they curse is for a reason so i'll listen to the one cursing. Is not that i like the meaning of those words (although depending of the topic i might), but sure they should still sell the censored version since some people think that the stop goes well with the beat. Is all about opinions and prefers.

Some of the stuff I listen to I don't think it's possible to do clean versions of the song without totally rewriting them. Half of Frank Zappa's catalog for example like Magdalena or Bobby Brown or Broken Hearts Are For Assholes I mean each of those songs the whole song is dirty and also even if you could censor them the listener would miss the jokes.

Don't really care if it's there or not. Songs that curse just to curse tend to be pretty terrible though... Just like any song that sticks in words without caring about their meaning.

I don't care about the profanities as long as the song is good.

Oh yeah for example back in the 90s Walmart wouldn't sell Nirvana's In Utero album because of the song "Rape Me" so they had to record a version where he sings "Waif Me" instead.

A perfect example would be Hip-Hop, every song has profanity, not sure what message rappers are trying to show; maybe influence Crimes, Drugs & Sex...
I don't care whether he song has profanity or not, just if it has good rhyming punctures and the Song is interesting..Then I'm Fine

I really don't care what they say or anything. Most of the songs I listen to do have some language in it, but I really dont care. I do have the song "What The Hell" From Avril Lavigne, but I downloaded the uncensord version online. I never tell my parents at first, because they made a huge deal when I tried to buy the Nikki Minaj album, Pink Friday. I mean, I seriously don't get why they didn't let me, They have every album of Linkin Park and I've been hearing their songs since I was like three years-old.

I absolutly love hip-hop music. And It's true that every song dose have profanity, but I don't really care at all. I sing parts of S&M (by Rihanna) all the time at school. Same with Gucci Gucci by Kreyashwan, even if it has no meaning, it's just so catchy to me. My freind and I, both, know the song and we sing it all the time.
Although, Few weeks ago, For one of my music classes we had to do a sing a solo, so, just to see what our teacher would do, My freind and I both did a duet of Super Bass by Nikki Minaj, and no, we did no censored ourselfs.

I was never allowed to buy anything uncensored as a kid, but now I always get the uncensored version, albeit very few of my albums even have enough profanity to earn the parental advisory sticker. I don't mind when the singer swears; there's more to take in than just lyrics and profanity doesn't necessarily detract from the lyrics. When artists try so hard to make an impression and end up sounding ridiculously cheesy, or take themselves too seriously, then it's a problem, but I have yet to get these notions about any musicians just from swearing.
I agree that some replacement words are just awkward/don't have the same impact as what the artist intended, but moreso, it also always feels like an incomplete product when it's censored. I can not pay for an edited version and say with confidence that I got the real thing/full value for my money, and by extension, it feels wrong to have in my music collection... but I definitely see why other people can favor the edited version.
P.S. hi

I've listened to Five Finger Death Punch's Under and Over It.
The lyrics with profanity are:
"Or how I'm just another fucking sheep in the herd."
"Did you hear the one about me giving a shit?"
"Did you hear the one about me being a prick?"
"Did you know I don't care you can 'suck my...' "
"Fuck you."
Four, almost five cuss words. Good thing I don't own the album of this song.

I would rather listen to a profane song uncensored, because some songs are better when they aren't censored heavily. If there's like a few bad words in a song, I would replace those words, but something like: D-12 My Band, sounds better uncensored because there's too much cursing for there to be censors everywhere.

Albums I buy don't even have censored verions generally, but most albums I buy have "explicit content". It just comes with the sort of stuff I listen to (a lot of punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, and noise-rock). The "parental advisory" thing has no agreed-upon standard, it's a decision that the record company makes, and since a lot of the stuff I buy comes from independent labels, most of the stuff I buy doesn't have the sticker. What I really hate though is when major record companies put the sticker on the artwork itself, that sucks. It should be something that peels off, not something getting in the way of the album art permanently. The sticker is essentially meaningless.
Bands I listen to tend to drop a lot of f-bombs, either for emphasis or to fill a two-syllable gap, if the song isn't actually about fucking. I really don't care about swearing and the only problem is when my mom and younger brother are both present, then she cares about him hearing profanity. Otherwise, it really doesn't matter. Bands like Big Black or any other Steve Albini band like to write songs about rape and similar subjects just for the controversy. Butt Trumpet and the Dwarves also use their lyrics purely to offend people. I personally couldn't care less about profanity in music.

@ergazooba I see you mentioned The Dwarves well if we're onto hardcore punk now I believe probably one of the most offensive songs ever written has to be GG Allin: Expose Yourself To Kids. Let's see somebody try to clean that one up!

Here's a song:
F**k the world by Insane Clown Posse
This 3:41 song says f**k 93 times and the other curse words several times. This song is just a f**k me and f**k everyone else type of song.
First Verse:
Fuck you, fuck me, fuck us
Fuck Tom, fuck Mary, fuck Gus
Fuck Darius
Fuck the west coast, and fuck everybody on the east
Eat shit and die, or fuck off at least
Fuck pre-schoolers, fuck rulers
Kings and Queens and gold jewelers
Fuck wine coolers
Fuck chickens, fuck ducks
Everybody in your crew sucks, punk mother fucks
Fuck critics, fuck your review
Even if you like me, fuck you
Fuck your mom, fuck your mom's momma
Fuck the Beastie Boys and the Dali Llama
Fuck the rain forest, fuck a Forrest Gump
You probably like it in the rump
Fuck a shoe pump, fuck the real deal and fuck all the fakes
Fuck all fifty two states! Oooo, and fuck you
Another ideal song is F**k Off by Kid Rock:
First Verse:
A shimmy shimmy cocoa cocoa pu- pu - fucking puffs bitch
It's the K-K-Kid Rock with the K-K-Kid Rock shit
I'm on top bitch and rock for tricks
Hella whips and nips and flip trips for whips
I get all the money pussy falls like rain
Been gettin laid and paid that's why I never complain
If I ain't in it for the money, I'm in it for the P
It's 1998 yo and you still can't fuck with me
You don't be fucking with the blue eye
Fucking with my 2-5 hope your fucking ass like my shoe size
I got a new vibe, kinda like voodoo
You do what we say and we'll do what we want to
We're fucking up your city and we're fucking up your program
Fucking all your bitches we don't fucking give a god damn
Twisted Brown gets down with no assistance
We won't quit until we're banned from existence
Persistence pays if that holds true
Then I'm a buy this fucking planet before the time I'm through
I was praised and raised on the thoughts of no faking
So I'm gonna get what I got coming and the rest I'm taking
I'm shaking like Jerry Lee Lewis and shit
You act like a motherfucker's new at this shit
But I've been true to this shit given my heart and soul
Been shining like a diamond but gettin passed as coal

Maybe so, but either way, Ass is nowhere as bad as a song with 93 F**ks in it.
