This is basically a thread to discuss Video Game Music. Who would have thought?
Anyway, I always thought indie games usually had better music, which I find strange. You'd think the million dollar productions would have better music, but nope.

I don't know. I can certainly think of some indie games that have great, if not excellent, music (Touhou, Mega Man X: Corrupted, MegaMari, and Another World's Chaos come to mind), but I can think of plenty of professional games that do as well (the Donkey Kong Country series, most Mega Man games, Yoshi's Island). And anyone who hasn't checked out Mega Man X: Corrupted (a SNES-styled MMX fangame done in Flash) or Another World's Chaos (a Touhou-like shooter made by Raibys and Azure) should do so. Now. Even if the gameplay doesn't seem interesting to you, at least listen to some of the music. I haven't played a whole lot of indie games, though.
Beyond that...what should we discuss? I think the Donkey Kong Country games had the best music of any games on the SNES (DKC2 would probably be tops, if I had to pick just one). My favorite soundtracks from the Mega Man X series are the ones from X4 and X6, and from the original series...I don't know. 3, 7, 9, and 10 are all up there. (The music was about the only thing I liked about Mega Man 3, but whatever.) Also, is it just me, or does almost every Mario game made after Yoshi's Island include at least one remix of the underground theme from SMB1 and 3? I don't dislike it, but in games where that's the only music that ever plays in underground levels (e.g. NSMBWii), it's kind of a shame.

Mother I'm Home has been my favourite song for weeks now. Bastion really raised the bar of video game music for me. Okami has taken the top spot after knocking off World of Goo and that lasted about a year.
To name a few songs that really stand out for me:
Bastion: Mother, I'm here and Setting Sail, Coming Home which combines Mother I'm here and another nice song from the game.
Bit.Trip Runner: menu theme
Rhythm Heaven Wii: extended remix
Everything From La MuLANA, but if I was to pick ... it'd be Song of Curry, High Speed Beast, Grand History and Dodge
Okami: Kushi's Ride, The Sun Rises, Demon Lord Ninetails, Ryoshima Coast, Reset ~ Thank You ... oh who am I kidding EVERYTHING IN OKAMI IS FREAKING AMAZING.
VVVVVV: Piercing the Sky, Potential for Anything and Positive Force
Tower of Heaven: Luna Ascension and Stairway to Heaven, particularly at 0:17 which I can just loop forever
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World: Round 2
Aquaria: Open Waters 3
Chrono Cross: Time's Scar and On the Beach of Dreams
Hydra Castle Labyrinth: Main 5
There's more I'll probably edit in soon.
e: oh boy i went overboard

Entire Rhythm Heaven Wii and Okami Soundtrack are beast.
Doubt I need to link to any of those so instead have this:
Deathsmiles - Burning Halloween Town
Indie game music doesn't cut it for me, I have yet to hear a memorable tune.

Did you hear the unused Okami stage theme from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3? I love it, i think it's a damn shame it wasn't an actual stage theme.
But yeah the Okami Soundtrack is awesome. I also love the the soundtrack to the Mario + Luigi Series especially the Popple's battle theme, I would love to see a game soundtrack based around that style of music.

Cave Story's soundtrack is amazing, and it can be summed up in one word: Moonsong.
Both the MegaMan and Donkey Kong Country series have great soundtracks. I also love Zombies Ate My Neighbors' soundtrack; Zombie Panic and Mars Needs Cheerleaders are my favorites.
