Yeah, I heard anonymous was against SOPA/PIPA, but we shouldn't put all our faith in them anyway.

In other news, 18 senators dropped their support for PIPA, and probably more will do the same. It looks like the blackout really paid out.

Thank goodness.
SMWC wasn't actually down. The domain name was down is the US. Even though I live in the US, I managed to access the site because I was able to grab it's actual address from the IRC.
These bills are just stupid things that the US government invented so they can control the Internet.
Please don't confuse the recent DNS-related downtime with problems involving SOPA/PIPA.
"Congress withdraws SOPA, PIPA anti-piracy measures"
IT'S OVER, THE BILLS ARE DEAD
YAY! VICTORY!
*Cue the Doves

Cheers to all those that helped in playing a part of the deaths of SOPA/PIPA no matter how big or small your contributions were (it all added up in the end) and let's hope online freedom is safe for at least another few good years to come (unless of course, an actual well thought out and practical idea to combat piracy is created and put into law).

This is a battle no-one will soon forget, and a statement that will hopefully create a lasting impression throughout the entire world! And just by posting in this thread, or the one in the Hot off the Press or anywhere/any-site in general, you spoke your voice and played your part in this historic occasion.

I swear I was able to access the site just fine on the 18th though. Is it just me?
Seriously? Hard to believe that after all this hype (no negative connotation intended), it all seems to be over already. Feels sort of... unreal. And makes me glad I was part of this by signing the petition, no doubt.

(The weird part of me keeps thinking this could have been a Truman-Show-like hoax aimed at me, taking advantage of my gullibility by trying to get me to donate or something. What the hell, me.)

So SMWiki is down by DNS failure, not SOPA/PIPA.
I knew something was up when I saw the banner for SMW Central had been restored. I was like "what?" and then I come here and read that SOPA/PIPA has been withdrawn. But I think I'm one of the few, the brave, the proud... who didn't panic. Not once.
When do you think SMWiki will be restored?
Oh right. I should probably get to that.

And appoint a maintainer while you're at it?

After hearing of Megaupload going down earlier today, I was more worried than ever about SOPA/PIPA. And now the bills have been killed.

I'm very relieved, to say the least. :)
Well. Hm. I changed my signature to victory just in time. Coincidental.

Surprisingly, I found that very few sites blacked out. neither facebook nor youtube did.

Depends on whether or not he expressed interesting in doing so. We had a thread about this a few months back, but nothing ever happened.
