Wasn't Megaupload hosted in Hong Kong?

Anyways, this happened at the right time: It shows us what would happen if SOPA passes.

Agaun someone who wants to shut down something in the internet? Don't you think it happens a little too often?

Neither was Megaupload.

Yes, but I somehow seriously doubt that the country TPB is hosted in (Sweden, I believe) would comply with wishes from the US to shut it down.

Actually, I read a Reddit thread that points out how this takedown is absolutely justified, if everything mentioned in the indictment is true. Right here, in fact. If everything mentioned here is true, then Anonymous made a HUGE mistake in hacking government websites out of rage over them taking down Megaupload.

if it's all true, why would you want to defend people that not only broke the law, but left proof about it and pretty much BRAGGED about it? .-.
Whether the shutdown was justified or not, I don't think I support Anonymous's retaliation because revenge just leads to a vicious cycle of angry feelings and the only way to stop is for one side to admit they were wrong and hope the other side can stop as well. I think they went too far.
In the USA, insanity happens. That's the way it is, big media companmies exerting their corrupt influence to pass corrupt laws loke DMCA and do nasty things like this.
USA? You mean ISA?

Incorporated States of America...

With all the talk about MU's death, lots of people are beginning to call us the Incorporated States of America.

Everyone who has ever used Megaupload will be sent to prison in the United States. I wouldn't be surprised if they started executing people to free up space
It is worth pointing out that while Megaupload was HK-based, they had a few servers somewhere in Virginia, and thus could be messed with by the US gov. TPB, having all their servers based in Sweden, don't have that vulnerability.

Lesson to companies: Don't host in the US if you even think your content could potentially run afoul of a law here. Your whole company will be screwed, your userbase will be screwed, and the only ones coming out of the screw-fest without sore arses are big media companies.
Even though SOPA and PIPA are almost dead, they still passed.
I honestly don't think there's anything to worry about here, guys! From what I see so far, the FBI doesn't seem to have any interest in going after anyone but the people that ran Megaupload, for the reasons they cite in their indictment.

Wiimeiser: I quit taking that guy seriously when I read the words that link to that video. ;P aka I think he's just being paranoid. You know what else might be in those files? Proof to support the FBI's case against the ringleaders of the site. :P I say, let's save our worry for when it starts to look more likely that they'll go after the users of it. For now, it doesn't look likely at all.
Also, it just seems so implausible to arrest EVERYONE who's used Megaupload.
I have removed all references to an IP claiming to be the "new megaupload". Do NOT repost said IP, future posters will be punished. There is reasonable suspicion that the aforementioned IP is a phishing site. To those who posted it prior to this message, you are not in trouble since it was (hopefully) not your intentions to spread something maliciously. That said, I plan to fully uphold this rule on future posters. Be warned,
Did anyone actually read Riolu's first post? You know, the one where he stated that MegaUpload was breaking the law?

Only if the FBI's claims are true. I'm not going to say they ARE until they are proven so. At the same time, I'm not going to say it CAN'T be true just because they took down Megaupload. We can't afford to just blindly take sides, y'know. We HAVE to look at both sides before deciding which one to take, if any.

I'm getting really sick of so many people just assuming the FBI are the bad guys in this, just because they took down Megaupload. Why aren't that many people actually considering that MAYBE the FBI is right?
It does seem strange that this happened right after the internet blackout protests. I'm not saying they definitely had anything to do with one another. It's just my observation that the two events happened so close together and I hope is just a mere coincidence.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at.
Well, Megaupload sucks anyway ("Do you want not to have to wait 45 seconds to download something? Do you want to download to actually progress at a decent speed? Then you better fork over some dough! Never mind that there are perfectly good other file-hosting sites that aren't like that...."), and I won't miss it at all until I have to download something from a site that doesn't think to use a better file-hosting service, but I have to admit, it does look awfully suspicious that this happened almost concurrently with the SOPA protest blackout. As Riolu said, though, we can't say for sure who the bad guys are here, because on one hand, this looks very much like something that would happen under SOPA or a similar bill, but on the other hand, some of those hosting sites do seem just a bit shady....
Anonymous is pissed off right now, and they say that if megaupload is not back up in three days (Starting Yesterday), then they'll take down:

-Youtube
-Twitter
-Facebook
-Chase Bank
-Xbox Live
-Sony PSN
-UN (United Nations)
Etc...

They also say that they're not "F*cking Playing", so now I am interested into seeing where this is headed...
Threat Here.

Also, Justin Bieber's website was hacked by Lulzsec... Here. (unhacked)
