Aren't DDOS attacks just smashing a website with traffic?
How in the world would that possibly affect Facebook? They're hit with half the world's computers like, every day.

Well, they aren't just DDOS'ers, they also do hack. That's what I figured they would do, anyway. For the reason you stated.
Other than that, I would have to find out more info on these guys and keep on events. =/

Ok seriously. Anyone who seriously believes that the US are seriously going to come and fine and charge 25% of the internet population is fucking retarded.
No matter how many new cells they make, they'd never be able to accomodate all those people. I also seriously doubt they'd be willing to put in that much effort for fines that they'll never even get half of (in this economy, I doubt any normal person could afford fines of that scale).
The video Wiimeister linked is just this guy talking out of his ass to expand his fanbase. Until the beardy bastard has proof of any of this, I'm not buying into it. It's just like saying because gravity pulls us down to the earth, birds shouldn't be able to fly.

Wait a minute, if they can take down sites whenever they want anyway what was the point of the SOPA and PIPA bills in the first place?

Rather, they had to have the co-operation of multiple world governments. They want to be able to do it themselves, much more easily and quickly.

@Kaijyuu - I think I have your answer...
Anonymous member posted this message on twitter about 45 minutes ago...
"Lulz at people saying we would take down Twitter, FaceBook, and YouTube... why would Anon take down how we send our messages?"
Meaning, someones trolling hard, or it's WallStreet, posing as Anonymous like last time.

Also, Polish websites are being hacked currently due to their (supposedly) passing of ACTA Bill in 4 days.
http://vagla.pl/ Hacked...
Other websites are going in and out constantly...
Edit:

Anyway. Filesonic is now down as well. Well, not down, but you cant "share" files anymore.
If they get rapidshare I will sob.

What was this I was hearing about how the FBI might not necessarily be the bad guys here? Unless I'm missing something (which I hope I am), this pretty much confirms it (that they are).

Has it been removed from the wayback machine yet, are the servers still intact, and what will happen to the domain name? Those are the questions.
EDIT: Also, what's the minimum prison sentence for this sort of thing?

piracy wasn't the main reason it was shut down people. the CEOs and main website owners were involved in the mafia, and mafioso acts. that's why they had to call in the feds.

Is it necessarily the FBI's fault that FileSonic is having issues and not FileSonic itself?

Unless they start acting like 1920s gangsters in court, I'm not convinced.

It's not unlike the law to get people on charges other than what they are really being tried for. Al Capone was sentenced to the longest tax evasion sentence in history at the time, O. J. Simpson got 33 years for kidnapping (despite not actually kidnapping anyone). This is the garbage of our system.

Um, no. According to what I've heard, Megaupload was shut down because of its staff committing acts of piracy, not taking certain illegal material off their databases when asked, instead choosing to be extremely "Exact Words" and only remove a LINK to it, stealing videos from YouTube, paying people who uploaded pirated material, actually uploading and downloading pirated material for their own use... They apparently kept records of all this, especially e-mails between each other where they discussed doing these acts! If true, they're idiots that deserved to be caught and taken down.

Prove that the FBI caused FIlesonic to quit allowing sharing of files. For all we know, they could've done it themselves to combat piracy. Heck, for all we know, they might've even done it so they could easily purge pirated materials from their database without their users trying to keep them from succeeding by reuploading the materials, and planning to re-allow sharing once the pirated materials are dealt with. I've yet to see anything on the Filesonic change, so I have no clue what's going on with it. Which is my point.

I doubt they will, unless rapidshare does something similar. ;)

The FBI didn't cause it, Filesonic did it to save themselves.

Is there any proof on that, though, HFD? I'd honestly like to hear more about this story.

No, there is no proof. There's no proof either way, since they haven't said anything about it. However, do you think it's just a coincidence? That doesn't make sense. Even if they did do it to get rid of "pirated" data, as you suggested, it's probably not a coincidence that they didn't actively care about that data before megaupload got shut down and now all of a sudden do.

The only time I had ever used Megaupload was downloading some Japanese doujinshi...
Other than that, I rarely use Megaupload.
But I got a friend in Canada who's mad it's been killed cuz apparently he downloads his... "stuff (1)" from there too...
1) Lolicon stuff
