Most people take for granted that a pleasant mood describes a person who has a general well being at that moment. But I also noticed something that most people as well take for granted, which is that when a person has a general well being their living space is also clean. I've noticed this in animals too. My question is, why does one's mood have any effect on their living space. I understand that when I am happy, I generally do positive things and cleaning could be one of them, but even when I don't specifically say to myself "I will clean this room" it gets cleaner by my actions. I want to know is this an isolated thing with myself, and those I've observed(few) and why does it seem to happen whether or not I decide to presently make a difference in my living space.

I agree completely with you because I do the same thing.

For me it's exactly the other way around. The happier I am the dirtier my room gets. I don't consider cleaning a fun action so that's not very surprising.

I don't think my mood has anything to do with my cleanliness. Especially not my room. Maybe at the start of a very happy period of time it will affect that sort of thing, but it wont forever.

Now that you bring it up, this is actually a very true thing for me. I remember September, October were about the cleanest months for my room and the garden, for like, the past two years or so. As I was in a very happy mood during those two months. After that it lessened somewhat, but still not too bad - and here, my room and the garden have had worse, much worse times. In fact, today I cleaned out the garden again from most leaves which had fallen in late Autumn.
I think the fact that cleaning has such a nice bonus to it also helps keeping your mood up. I don't really know why a change of mood would have to mean there's a change of cleanliness, perhaps a sense of duty, though.

I actually clean when I'm sad/bored, strangely enough. It really boils down to an attitude along the lines of "well, I guess I have noting else to do today, so I might as well clean".

My mood doesn't really dictate when I clean, I usually only clean when I feel a room is unorganized or someone leaves a huge mess to which it just bugs to the point of cleaning it to be rid of the mess.

Yep. Pretty much this. I never bother cleaning my room or any of my things unless it bugs me, which usually happens if it's too dirty or a big mess which I don't want to look at.

When there's everything messy, I clean my room/house/whatever, sometimes with the vacuum cleaner, which is my favorite way of cleaning the whole house.

My mood doesn't change when I clean either. I just tidy and clean my room when it is dusty or untidy.

Bleh, pretty much this. Also I do it so my mom doesn't yell at me for the 500000th time.

I dunno, now that you do mention it, I do keep my room cleaned up better when I'm happy, and just take care of myself better in general.
Usually when I'm sad/annoyed I just want to lazily lie down or do something that isn't productive at all. When I'm happier I tend to do more productive things, which has included cleaning my room up in the past.

This sort of rule also applies to... well, pretty much everything. Due to a recent change in my life that brought away my huge depression and boredom, I actually get out of my house and just walk around now, I can focus so much better on getting school work done, etc.
When it comes to keeping things clean and neat, I'm just someone that hates unclean environments, so I make sure I never let it get too messy. This has and always will be the case, no dependency on my mood or anything.
