Tip: If you give a muncher tile custom graphics, it will still act like a coin when a silver P-switch is active, whether it looks like a coin or not. So make sure to use ExAnimation if there's a silver P-switch in the area.
How many hacks have used unedited Yellow Switch Palaces?

Actually i just worked on my own and it's so short because it's so hard to work with it without getting cutoff.

It breaks the rules. Breaking rules gets rejected. Maybe you'll let it slide, but I consider myself strict. Also, level 0 and 100 should be added to the levels not needed to edit.

I wouldn't always follow the rules if I was a hack moderator. IMO the rules aren't meant to be taken literally every single time, they're just guidelines that should be followed as you see fit. If you come across a hack with a decent overworld, plenty of mediocre levels with no major flaws but has an unedited switch palace, will you reject the hack solely because of one very minor unedited level? I wouldn't. Yes, I know hacks with unedited levels tend to be bad overall but that's besides the point.
? ? ?
I need to link that more often when ranting about people following rules too strictly.
A question for the mods... Would a Palette Change be good enough of a change? Because I really see no reason to re-design the switch room. I mean I do this most of the time, but other times I would rather feel like leaving it how it is, so I just change the palette is all. Would that be good?

It really depends on just how mediocre the levels are and if there are any other issues. If that's the only thing, I would probably accept it and be like, "Try not being so lazy next time, lazy."

The switch room itself is no big deal (even though it can also easily be edited). So, are you talking only about a palette change in the switch room, or are you meaning just a palette swap for the whole level? Like I said, an unedited or lightly-edited or heavily-edited switch room is fine by me (and I would assume most of the rest of us) but I think we would want to see a little bit more than just a palette change for the rest of the level. That said, though, even a mere palette change for the whole level would at least be SOMETHING showing you wanted to make it your own.

And I think that's a big part of why it bothers me -- it's like not bothering to make it special or unique. Meh. I guess a game that has been hacked a thousand times can't be TOO special or unique anymore. Whatever.
I think the Switch Palaces should be edited, but I think many people forget what the Switch Palaces were, Bonus Areas. They generally would give you enough coins (through P-Switch, or other means), and at the end you would get a 1-UP. You didn't really have to worry about dying in them (if you did you might be a tad clumsy), or the what-not.

So yeah.

And I've seen a whole truck load of unchanged Switch Palaces.
Well, sometimes that's not actually the case. Some switch palaces dont even have coins! It's true!
And it seems common that switch palaces be used as puzzle levels.
Yeah, that too.
I don't mind a ton, but without edits it is a wasted opportunity to make it worth the players time to be there. If you are going to leave the first room as it is, you may as well just make it so Mario starts the level in the second room. Maybe save people the trouble of playing that boring room they've played a thousand times. And if you're too lazy to do that, then maybe your hack should be denied.

Even then though, I see no reason not to put some time into a new bonus puzzle or whatnot. Saying the tileset is hard to work with, whether it's true or not, is just an excuse to be lazy. Look at the 4 Switch Palaces in the original SMW. If you haven't noticed, they all share the identical base room (Level 8, the green one, has a pit in it, but it's still the same thing pretty much). You don't need to alter the base room and if you really need to, you don't need to use that tileset.

Nintendo was able to make each Switch Palace have its own bonus area, with the same room for a base. Just be creative. Making something new there shouldn't take any time at all.

Yes, there was a pit but they used cement blocks there instead of actual corner tiles. I never understood why they didn't make 4 corner tiles for the Switch Palace and also why they use an invisible sprite on the only corner tile too.
In my oppinion, either make a small level for the switch palace, that seems suiting to be a palace, or just have it they fall on the switch right away. To me either way works.
As long as you're editing levels, you might as well edit the switch palace, I mean..it doesn't take long to edit at all, and we have GFX sets to make the tilesets for them easier to work with. I don't particularly mind playing through an unedited one though.
I am going to say right now that Nintendo's Yellow Switch palace was the first switch palace, so it was more of a bonus level. The other switches had a few enemies. But if your switch palace is later in the game, don't make it empty. On the other hand, I have 5 fingers if you use a switch palace in the first world, it is fine if you leave it empty (though change the first room to something other than coins all over, think of another bonus).
