Welp, you've certainly got me beat...

I like the grass platform, but I'm not crazy about giving it a face. I don't know why, I just don't really like it, even though nearly everything in Mario games has a face... I don't know why, but I don't really like the Dry Bones' body, but the head looks fine and I kind of like the red shell. As for the beetles, I really like their graphics!

I know I probably won't fit the style well, but I'll at least try to do Rex, as he's my favorite SMW enemy.

EDIT 2:
Okay, I tried to make Rex look less cheery/sad and a bit more angry. How does his face look now?

@Ludus: The platform and dry-bones look a tad too happy, at least for me.Also, the spikes on the spiny(?) dont look too harmfull, making em' thiner should help.

@DarkBones: Way too happy, especially the eyes.
I think the main problems with the Spinies we currently have is that A) their spikes look odd and non-spikey, and B) they face too far toward the player, which seems doubly odd due to the fact that they're normally in perfect profile in the actual Mario games.

Generally, I think it's probably best to not try to get too fanciful with the actual character design of the enemies themselves. Remember that these are the global sprites--we want them to be all-purpose, and to fit well in a wide range of environments, so a drastic reinterpretation may not be the best idea idea. Look at the Foopian graphics that form the majority of our basic sprites; they don't deviate all that much from the original SMW character designs--they just translate these into a more detailed (but still quite cartoony) style, heavily influenced by NSMB. Basically, what you get is something that looks like what one might expect from the original SMW if it were ported to a more recent system with correspondingly updated graphics, but these graphics still being drawn in such a way to capture the same sort of feel the originals do. I suspect this is probably the route we want to take as concerns our global sprites, as it's generally the ones that try too hard to look drastically different that end up looking out of place among the others which seek to capture the feel of the originals.
I've been keeping quiet for quite a while simply because there just hasn't been much going on with SMWCP2, or anything that hasn't been said yet. I would've thought by now, all of the levels would've been done. I knew for a while Magiluigi was waiting on a particualar resource to add a finishing touch to his level, Kojeco pretty much has a done level, and 2dareduck's will likely be cleared soon.

I'm not sure about issuing third levels. I considered myself to have already contributed my fair share to the project, both in terms of content and testing, and I'm certain many others in my position would say the same. If it really came down to it though, if we really must give out third levels... I've had thoughts of picking up where Mineyl left of with her level. I liked where she was going with it, and having designed one of my earlier levels in a somewhat similar fashion, I could probably go through with it.
Hello, my name is lomani57, and I am interested in being a level designer, and I was wondering how someone would go about doing that. If you can let me know anything it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

lomani57
^ Levels are pretty much a hit or miss thing right now - that is, unless the current designers drop their levels completely and no one has a level reserved, it's unlikely that there will be any room left for new designers. There's always graphical/plot discussion and level testing which needs to be done as well, though.
Thank you very much, and I would defiantly be interested in play-testing.
Good! Look around in the world subforums for a level that does not have the [Complete] tag next to it. Those levels are the ones that need to be playtested the most. You can also check out the Level Testing thread in this forum to play some submitted and finished levels, in order to check for bugs or oddities.

You can also go to the Base ROM thread in this forum and download the latest version of the hack. With this, you can play all inserted levels and offer suggestions that way.

@aj6666 Passing is fine, probably the people who didn't have 2nds probably should go before the people who didn't have 3rds. But it's fine. It's up to SNN and Lightvayne to make the call.

For what it's worth, Lightvayne's name is currently attached to five levels, though three of which he only contributed half a level to.
Now say that I want to test the levels in the baserom, in case something was missed or something is buggy, where should I post anything I find? Unless of course there are already too many testers.

How's this so far?

Sorry, but that doesn't look good...it looks like it's gonna cry.

I personally would like the Rex be based on what his eye's are: \ /

I like this feature of Rex, personally...and I don't like how hack make him have eyeballs.
I can help. With testing on SNES. It's important to check if this hack is working on SNES. Why make a game that's not working
If anyone wants to check my progress on the updating of Mario's cake hat (ie: Rameau + Anyone Else), here.
Big Mario's hat certainly looks better, though I wonder if there isn't still a certain rather more subtle something amiss with it. Or maybe it just feels as though it needs an intermediate shade of red in there which we simply don't have room for. Or maybe I've just been staring at it for too long.

As for small Mario...well, I'd definitely say having a black outline at the ear/hat border would look a bit better. But even then, I think there is (and always has been) something fundamentally wrong about the general shape and proportions of his hat, which may contribute to its overall cakeosity just as much as the platter-like brim did. I suspect this may also somewhat be the case for big Mario as well (albeit to a less drastic degree), in small Mario's case it's particularly noticeable.
Oh yeah taken lazily from the other thread:

Are you any good at style replicating?

I don't know really. I just started making GFX during the secret santa event...and I mostly took some graphics and edited to the to something that'll fit SMW =S

Although...:

I just edited the Mario into something that looks like luigi.

The Super Luigi's body is just a recolored Mario body, so that's why it looks a little fat right now...I'll try to make it skinny...

And the Small Luigi are just bare edits....

Well, I tried :L

Color 87 isn't used for anything, so there's that option.

Those are actually very nicely done. I'd love to see a full completion of GFX (if we intend to use Luigi at any point that is)
I really apologize for not replying to the thread in the past week or so. I've been busy with midterms and such for school.
Of course a bit of laziness was contributed as well.

Anyway, I really have to admit that I haven't gotten much done on the level lately, and I still have to remake the progress I had before losing my data.

Whatever it is, I can promise you guys I'm not gonna leave you hanging forever, I'll make sure to have it finished as quickly as possible.

Except it was already passed on this morning.

Sorry, but we're not mind readers (especially me). Even posting what you just did there 1-2 weeks ago would have been great, but the fact that we heard nothing at all led us to believe you had either forgotten and/or lost interest.
