I personally think working in teams is very fun compared to working alone, which is probably why I've entered the last three major contests together with someone(Ludus, Uhrix and Noel respectively).


I didn't work with a partner because I completely forgot about the contest until 2 days before it ended. If I had the time, I would have loved to have paired up with someone. (I worked with someone during a chocolate contest, and it was pretty fun)

On the contrary- testing is a natural part of the process, and shouldn't be ignored. Or at least, that's the way I see it.
I've managed to beat mathelete's entry savestateless. The worst part is, I don't have a video. I've managed to get the flower by cloning the first mushroom block in the first room to kill the footballs and chucks. And I did beat the cape room and the boss battle capeless (in both occasions I did got hit, but I did beat the boss battle). Oh, not to mention, I liked the credits, it looked creative. The entry did look fun, but difficult to do either with or without savestates.

...are we talking about the same level here? Timing out was never an issue for me when I played through the level, and there's much more than just Koopas and Super Koopas going on in the level, despite the super koopas being heavily present.
I will give you that a few of the super koopa formations don't end up intercepting. Let's just say they're rookies or something.

Did you manage to hit the top block in the boss room? You will have to take a hit while using your cape to hit it, but the reward in the block is much better than the cape that you will lose.
I made a .zip file for all of the submissions for those who want to play all of the submissions without downloading them one-by-one. So if there any file that I missed, please let me know.

If you mean the one that has a star, nope. I did beat two of the Reznors before getting hit and then I beat two more Reznors while getting hit by the spiny blocks and then I won the battle.

@mathelete: I managed to get to the Midpoint of your entry and about the 4 doors, door 2 is the best. 1, 3 and 4 are just not doable for me.
I couldn't get to the boss.
Anybody like my level?

What do you mean you could not get to the boss? You mean one of the screen exits was broken, or you mean you died on the room before the boss?

I totally agree with that. I bet this level would be overall making a better appearance if you just would have scrapped the door systen and just made ONE hard castle part, because of the following reasons:

-You may have been using less than 75 Screens
-The difficulty of the level wouldn't get so unbalanced because of the easyness of one door. Did you ever play "Front Door" from the original SMW? Did you ever saw anybody who did not took Door 2 and 7? That is the main problem of the combination of savestates/rewinds and multiple paths with the same goal, and that's why something like that never is going to work out on a emulator, besides on the SNES.

Mathelete, I find your level, to be honest, quite good. I think it is the first time I saw anyone using the Credits' decoration. (Might have been good if you had disabled layer priority on them. =/) I also respect your creative style of making kind of obstacles which are original, or the autoscroll, which was giving the level a bit more fun. I recommend to you to take a look at SMW in the future when making levels, because what you need to learn is the way how a fun level is build. My favourite examples were Yoshi's Island 2, Donut Plains 3 and Vanilla Dome 4, because they all had very fun and creative design. Don't forget this is just a recommendation, if you don't like to design levels with that way, you may look at some featured hacks.

Your level certainly has much potential, and I really liked the outside part, but the castle part was really, insane, but anyway, the outside part showed me how good you can be as a level design. I look forward to some other things you make, mathelete. ;) BTW, what's up with those Mario's, Luigi's and Bowser's? Still funny through. xD

Just on a side note, would anyone like to try my level? :)
Anyone interested in trying my level? I haven't tested the latter part of the level as thoroughly as the first part so I'm kind of interested in what you guys think of it.
Octopus' level:

1. There's a KAIZO TRAP at the start where if you touch the goal sphere you die. Ah, you need a P-Switch to get that. Wouldn't it have been better to surround the sphere with the brown blocks to prevent deaths like that?

Are you kidding me? I have to enter the pipe while on a FALLING platform. Come on, don't you think that's kind of Kaizo?

This won't work because the Silver P-Switch has become a blue one after coming through the pipe making the Key impossible to get.

oh i think i get it know. I redownloaded a clean rom and it didn't work, so obviously the base rom that i used for making the .ips was not-so-clean.

Yeah, I actually kind of agree with that, but I still absolutely wanted to keep it in for some reason (mainly, because I couldn't think of another way to end the first half of the level).

As for the silver P-Switch, that's intended. You're not supposed to get the key.
