Here is a video of how to beat my level without tools. I took 20 minutes, so I am guessing a player who has not seen the level before would take an hour.

Thanks. :D

I replayed it yesterday and I noticed that I didn't change the name of the level. It was supposed to be "Mushrooms and Stuff".

EDIT: I guess I'm jumping on the bandwagon and asking for feedback on my level too.

I don't think coins are important to level design at all. And coins weren't super prevalent in the original SMW, actually. They certainly weren't in every level, or even most of them.

How long does the judging usually last?

If you check the "Old Contests & Events" forum you'll notice it varies from year to year:

Past Judging Periods VLDC:

2008: Feb 24 - Feb 27 (51 Entries)

2009: Feb 27 - May 3rd (62 Entries)

2010: Feb 28 - Apr 13 (124 Entries)

2011: Mar 6 - May 2nd (86 Entries)

Really depends on how much free time the judges have.

Again, I gotta give Dinomar props on his level. It looked good, plenty of coins and powerups. Nice spaces open enough to jump through, but still tight to give a sort of "factory" feel. it was awesome.

Indeed my level was Metroid Fusion inspired. You may have found some similarities of it. But i called it SGARBOO because i based that boo character on a "very nice" italian person: Vittorio Sgarbi.

Okay, I just saw Xkeeper's video. The moment he entered the big boo battle, HE DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO PLAY IT. HOW CAN YOU ASSUME SOMETHING IS SHIT WITHOUT EVEN PLAYING IT???

Seriously...what is that guy smoking?

Low-level trolling that isn't worth discussing, nothing more.
Whoops, you are right, it is better to just ignore him than feed the troll. He is banned anyway. Also, 2010 had the most entries, yet it took the least time to judge???

Over a month? Doesn't that say 2008 took 3 days?

Oops, I read that as april 27th.
I doubt judging will take that long, since AxemJinx has said that (s)he's finished with judging and is double-checking everything.

Also MrDeePay hasn't said anything to make me think he's judging slowly.

By the way, a textbox at the end of the level said the map 16 was free to use, can I use this map 16 to get some inspiration?

To be fair, it was the very end of the level - he'd seen pretty much all of the content. (Assuming there's a possible secret he'd missed... I didn't watch this level through.) Not to mention, well, even as someone who was a former staff member, it just seemed too frustrating to really want to play.

(And I'm sure we've all played through several variations of Big Boo boss battles, anyway. If you're not really enjoying playing something... why force yourself through it, after all?)

If anyone's interested (and people won't try to jab me with pitchforks for it), I'll link to the stream here whenever he brings it live again. (Of course, if the staff decides this would be a terrible idea and shouldn't be done, I'll not do such.)

And they (all involved in the video) don't hate all the levels for no reason, by the way - the reactions to Dinomar's level were pretty universally positive, even from a friend I had over here at the time of the stream who is completely uninitiated with SMW hacking and has only played my Super Wario World demo from 2010.

(Enough about that, though, I don't want to stir more up - just wanted to address a few points that I felt needed it. Unless need be, I won't mention much else on the matter.)

Not completely, GN. He was on the Acmlm staff for quite a while. Same trouble maker as always.

So yeah, Shog. He's been around since before SMW Central was even made.

That may be true but is that even relevant? doe he even know what happens now and days?

now, back to the contest;

let's try this one more time. I'm hoping to get some heavy criticism, because i haven't really got that from anyone yet, only appreciation, which i'm not entirely happy about because this isn't even made for the contest, it's just a level i made 7 months ago...

Look it is true that some levels are frustrating enough to be foreced to use savestates, but sincerely... who would really care? Is that a matter of life or death? With his attitude, did he prove to be a hero? He just showed to be ridicolous, aside the fact he has someone on his side. I also have a very good reason to dislike him. Jesus Christ, this is just a SMW hacking contest, unknown from the rest of the world, there is no need to be serious on this! Every people who made an entry should be considered at least a little, and you go and say "you suck": just like everyone here is going to be a video game designer in 20 years. No one cares! I get more angry when i see incapable showgirls that earn millions only for their tits.
I'd just like to say that the ultimate goal of this thread and the contest in general is to help people improve and to have fun creating levels, not to put people down. To that end, I apologize in advance if any of my feedback for the entries is too blunt or inflammatory, and if anyone has follow-up questions or things they want clarified when the results are posted, I'll be happy to answer them, so long as they're not frivolous/vague.

But more than anything... we are just having the ducking fun, and i feel just pity for forever alones who want only to make others feel bad for... for what? A Mario game?
I think he only wants to troll for the heck of it. In another video, he used the phrase "SMW Central Shit"

He also said that smwcentral rates things too high, and the stuff that smwcentral gives high rating is actually shit.

He seriously needs to see a psychiatrist.

Well, you haven't really named any names here. We don't know just how many people's levels you disapproved of (and I would prefer further details pertaining to those judgments to be kept silent until the final results), yet folks are already trying to single out the bad apples from the basket. This issue is compounded by the fact that some folks cannot take criticism well, and that there are very different opinions on what qualifies as being "fun", "challenging", etc.

I've seen some really great levels in this contest, and I've seen some god-awful ones. These are all in my opinion however, and given how poorly some folks are reacting to the subtle hints, it's probably best that I don't mention who these designers were.
