Mannah: Yeah, that's fine.

so there's no limit to the number of sublevels, correct? just as long as the hack doesn't exceed 4B screens in total? i'm not gonna get stupid with the number of sublevels, but they play an important role in my entry. i think i want 6 of them to be even more specific.

Will we get points off for this glitch?

Probably, because that can easily be fixed by making a new map16 tile with the layer priority turned off.

After some discussion with judges, I have altered the Technical Functionality category of the scoring. No longer is it the binary scoring that it was, i.e., the 0 or 5 point scoring. We felt that by only being able to score levels 0 or 5 points, we would be making scoring more difficult too judge. As such, it will now be a standard 0 to 5 point scale with half-points, just like the other categories.

Is the screen limit based on how many screens can actually be accessed in one playthrough or how many total screens there are? For instance, if I made a 16-screen starting level that led to one of two possible 12-screen second parts, would that count as 28 or 40 screens total? And if it would count as 40, what about levels that are identical in every respect except entrances and exits? Would two levels that contain 9 screens each, one of which has an entrance at screen 00 and a secondary exit to level 25 and the other of which has an entrance at screen 04 and a secondary exit to level 26, count as 9 screens or 18?

You certainly know how to word your question confusingly. I know what you're asking though so let me just word my response correctly.
A screen counts as a screen if:
Mario can move on it
It is being used as a cutscene
Two copies of an area still count as two separate screens, so in your 9 screen example, it would be a total of 18 screens.
Does that answer your question?

This is pretty much a rewording of imamelia's first question, but I'll ask anyway:
Say, you start in level A, and you have two possibilities from there: move on to level B, or move on to level C.
A -> B
A -> C
Would B and C both count towards the maximum amount of screens allowed if you have no way to enter both B and C in the same playthrough?

I've decided to take a break from Mecha-Bowser's Revenge and try my hand at this contest. It'll be nice not having to worry too much about glitches that can occur from ASM-based resources. The biggest challenge may be not using custom music since SMW's default tunes don't fit every possible setting that can be created, even under this contest's limitations. I'm doing a ruins level, and it's well underway.

Just a question:
Are we allowed to extract and insert ExGFX just for being able to use one extra ExAnimation file (AN2)?

I think use one ExAnimation file is allowed, but use any ExGFX slot isn't.

I think so. Well, darn...I guess I'll have to sit this one out, then.

Ideally, you should never need to come close to hitting the 75 screen limit in the confines of this contest.

Which part of "use of external, 3rd-party tools will result in immediate disqualification from the contest" did you skim over?
