I downloaded the Hard mode patch and have some highly (perhaps irrationally) ambitious plans for it, but the readme mentions ObjecTool being necessary to make blocks appear or disappear with it, and I can't find ObjecTool.
More significantly, I'm not sure how to force a particular file to stay in one mode. How would I go about doing that?

ObjecTool is a patch, you can download it here, and here is a nice tutorial 'bout how to use it.

And no, I can't answer your last question, I've never used that "Hard mode patch" before...

So ObjecTool is a patch? How confusing. Thanks for pointing that out.
But looking at that tutorial and the readme that looks like a major pain in the duodenum that could be avoided with BTSD while still getting the same basic effect. I mean, all I'd have to do to do it in BTSD is just code my own blocks to incorporate the RAM address used to determine the difficulty, right? And unless there's something I'm missing there's no real advantage to ObjecTool aside from saving a few bytes that shouldn't really make much of a difference unless I'm packing 7 times more ASM than Brutal Mario?
The advantage to objectool is you can have objects that load different blocks depending on whatever. In this case, difficulty.

You cannot reproduce that effect with regular custom blocks. They will be loaded into the level, with the same map16 number, no matter what.
I'm incorporating separate difficulties for my hack as well. Would it not be more simple to just load different level numbers for different difficulties? unless you're making a 96 exit hack that seems to be way more simple...
