So I've been saying this all day and have been thinking about it a lot. But it's damn true. What is valantines day apart from a day where you tell someone you love that you love them? I might be single but even I know any decent relationship should have you saying that more than once a year. If you're gonna buy your partner a gift, don't buy it for them because a commercial holiday dictates to do so. Do it because you care.
This day is what is commonly refered to by some as a 'Hallmark Holiday'. A holiday which has lost it's roots and is now soley become commercial. What do you think? Do you have any different opinions?

Isn't that the whole point of it?
It's just like christmas, nobody cares about where it came from any more, people just celebrate it and give each other neat and thoughtful gifts.
How can you not be a fan of that?

I knew someone would make a thread like this.
Who cares why we celebrate it, leod summed it up best.

I love giving gifts and valentines day is just another reason to do it. I'm well aware that it was created by the liberal Jewish media to sell cards, but I don't care; it's fun. Anyone who disagrees is jealous or no fun.
Ps leod:
Mario is red
Luigi is green
You are so super
It's really obscene

I agree it is a day just for big businesses to make more money, but also, it is one of those days where you can treat someone you love and care about in a special manner. Also many people have their anniversaries on Valentine's Day. But anyway, some people may not have the money to treat the person they love to the most special gifts, so they use this day to show their affection towards their respective counterpart. Just something I see, since I do not have a job right now, but I managed to show the ones I love that I care very much about them by getting them cards that show my amount of affection. Or sometimes even making cards for them to show that I also care. But in reality I never by cards, I always make mine. I think making a card for someone is more special than just buying one.
A lot of people have lost touch of what really should be going on during Valentine's Day; but for me, I still believe. I am probably what you would call a Hopeless Romantic. Well maybe not exactly, but pretty close. Might not be a good thing to admit, but hey, it is true haha.

I also agree with this. Now pretty much every last fucking store just takes the money out of your pockets in this day. Now it's just celebrated so those idiots can profit more.
But... Why just giving a gift to that sopecial someone that day? If you really care about that person...
DON'T WAIT FOR THAT FUCKING DAY!
If you really want to give someone a gift, get up from there and go buy it! Don't wait for that day!
Enough said.

Aren't all holidays that now? Think of Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Mother's Day (and as a result, Father's Day) - the list goes on. Whether you believe in their roots or not, it is true that all holidays have become victim to being exploited by capitalistic gain, and Valentine's Day is just one of them. Sure there is always particular meaning to each of them, but really, is that what you think of? Clearly, the very existence of this thread proves that it isn't, and that's just what society has done to our tradition. Essentially now Tradition = Money, and they will exploit it as much as they can for their own profit. Why do you think you can buy advent calendars in September and Easter Eggs in December before Christmas is even over?

wwhat?
Anyway, posting in a thread that has gone for thirty days or more without posts is generally not a good idea, especially when it was a holiday-themed thread.
