Well, if you somehow do make one entire world SMB1-styled, and if afterward comes a world with SMB2 graphics, do you (I mean you) interpretate that as a graphical clash? If not, what is your opinion about how far and how often the graphic style is allowed to change?

I don't really care about graphical clashes anymore. I mean, most of the time Mario itself already clashes with other stuff.

I think it's fine having separate worlds for different themes but as torchkas said Mario does seem to clash a lot with different gfx.

Honestly, if a hack is fun to play I couldn't care less about graphical clashes, even if there is a different style in each level.
If you're going for a plot-based hack or one where the different levels are closely connected in any other way, though, then I guess it'd be better to not have the graphical style change too often, because it can make the hack feel like a bunch of random levels.
Also, I personally wouldn't consider it a graphical clash if you stick to one graphical theme for an entire world and to another for another world.

I think it really depends on the level of detail in the graphics more than anything. To me, almost anything from the original SMW, almost anything from the 16-bit versions of SMB1-3, and a lot of things from Yoshi's Island can be combined (with each other) without clashing, but very few graphics from, say, the Donkey Kong Country or Castlevania series look right in SMW hacks. The style is another factor, though; the general metallic feeling of most Mega Man X graphics looks out of place, as do the semi-3D foregrounds of DKC. Having an entire world themed around one game isn't a bad idea, though, unless those graphics still clash with those of sprites and the player.

I tend to obsess over graphical consistency. One of the reasons I made so many revisions to my last hack was to make things as graphically consistent as possible. I think that the more graphically consistent a hack is, the more professional it looks.

It would be a graphical clash if they were in the SAME room/level. If you change the style from one world to another, that is by no means a clash. Otherwise your entire game would have just one style, making it dull. Now if you had something like smb2 sprite graphics, smb3 background graphics, and smb1 object graphics, THAT would be clashing.

I don't really care too much; not everyone is a pixel artist, after all, so it doesn't seem fair to expect all the graphics to be completely consistent in every hack. What does bother me a little though, is when the same objects/sprites use different graphics in different levels. Pipes/question blocks/koopas/whatever should look the same in every level so you know they are the same. If I see SMB3 koopas in one level when all the other levels use SMW style koopas, then I'd assume they would behave differently. Unless that's the point (like the story is about Mario going to parallel universes with different graphical styles), of course.

Actually, SMB3 style koopas and SMW style koopas are not a problem if they are in different worlds.

Thanks, guys! =)
I think now that it is ok to having one world other graphic-styles than another world.
