O-oh, I didn't realized this was for the contest. Well, I think there is a way to fix the P-balloon, but I dunno. Good luck there.
You might be able to use ExAnimation to fix that or something. I've never done it with a P-Balloon though.
Running under the Clapping Chucks? Really? This was where I quit for the time being. Not only does this have no basis in a non-Kaizo, but there were multiple in a row, which is kinda repetitive, and even in Kaizo hacks they are frowned upon for their unoriginality. Also I'm not sure if they're possible as Super Mario without taking a hit (never been Super at that point, but that was my unsuper playing skills). It seems to be almost luck based, getting them to jump at the right time. *Remembers the Squawks part of Animal Antics*
The very beginning is actually not as difficult as it looks, tho it looks daunting. The sprite graphics made me go 'WTF?'
Also, I'm kinda unclear on this, but are you even allowed to change the title screen music? It may not be part of the level itself, but that involves either HFD's AddMusic or a hex editor, both of which count as external tools.
Well, the difference between running under clapping chucks in this hack and in kaizo is that kaizo did not leave enough jumping space for the chucks. I let 1 tile extra, so the timing is no longer unfair. That extra tile of space is the difference between kaizo and non-kaizo.
Edit: also, to get them to jump at the right time, you have to jump when they put their hands up. It is not that luck-based.
Edit again: to change the title screen music to donut plains, you have to put in a directional coin sprite. That plays the p-switch music in a normal level, but in the title screen, it switches the music to donut plains.

Never knew that. For some reason it had never occurred to me what would happen if you put a directional coin sprite in the title screen.
This vanilla contest made me discover so many things you can do with vanilla hacks that I thought would require asm. A lot of fancy stuff in vanilla hacks revolves around clever use of the layer priority property of a map16 tile.
The hack is somewhat not too bad, there's large amount room of improvement here..

Also, try improve this!
