Super Mario World Re-Modernized is a project by me to turn SMW into more of what is shown and seen in latest games. The hack will be a base hack where anyone can use it to start their own hack from or take elements from. The hack is still very "young" and has only been going on for a week now but I'd like to see what you guys think of it so far. So far the only thing edited graphic wise is the grass foreground, Mario's cape and the Power-ups. The Fire Flower will be changed soon, the graphics for it at the moment like most of the Power-ups is more of a "sketch" at this time.

Title showing off new global palettes and the modified grassland fg.
Background palette and banzai.
Opening level for the hack, showing the berries and bg color. I'll probably add some vanilla clouds to it.
Palette Window
The Power-ups.

Suggestions are welcome since my aim is for this to be a base hack after all.

Speaking of suggestions also, I got a question for anyone whose interested in the development and completion of the hack. Who wouldn't care for custom palettes used in the hack. What I mean is the custom palettes for each level, using more colors then is allowed without having to hex edit or use ASM. Doing that would allow me to put more detail into the hack and if I did so this, I'd include all the palettes in a folder for easy access/importing so no exporting and importing or copying over. I'd aim for this to be as user-friendly as possible for anyone who did use this as a base.

My plans:
-Make Mario have more of a SMB3 look, still keeping within the idea of "modern".
-Add in a few patches that won't alter the hack too much, more of along the lines of bugfixing.
-Redraw all of the graphics to look more like their present counter-parts/reflections.
-Include a few bonuses that are optional to use and won't alter anything if not used~

I'll post more screens later, tell me what you think so far.

First off, I think this is a great idea! Creating sort of a base for new hackers to work on will benefit everyone and will raise the quality of hacks submitted to this site.

There are a few things I would like to suggest though. Changing the GFX is a good idea and all, but it would be nice if you made that optional, and including a way to quickly switch back to the original vanilla GFX or the SMW redrawn(name?) etc..

Maybe it would be a good idea to include some MAP-16 stuff for overall use, like extra foreground tiles for decorations, up-side down munchers and cannons etc.

Custom blocks (and maybe even sprites) would be nice too and will probably make lots of people glad, just some common and useful ones would do, I guess.
As a hacker who struggles with some of this stuff, thanks a ton, seriously. It'll be nice to have some base graphics that won't clash.
That fire flower looks hideous. Try making that top part a little rounder.

Good work on the rest of it though.

As you can read above it was more of a sketch then the actual graphic I'll use for the fire flower, it's obviously gonna change. Thanks for the tip though I guess. #w{=9}

I'll think about it. The sprite and block part though, idk I think myself of that more of the person who uses the base hack decision to insert custom sprites and blocks ones they'd use but we'll see....

Thanks though. :3
