In a strange twist of fate, Game Freak decided to not make a pokemon gray, but a Black/White 2. And coming to DS (not 3ds) this June for japan. And maybe this year in the USA.

Thoughts?

Personally, I dont care about them doing a second version. I just would've liked it more on the 3DS. Just imagine the possibilities with Spotpass, streetpass, the ability to add content via eshop, AR battles even! Also 3D.

what the hello gruesa chicle
I find it strange how Nintendo is dropping all of their titles for old consoles to focus them on the WiiU and 3DS but Pokemon is continously being saved for the DS. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe, with the connection between the 3DS and WiiU, Nintendo is waiting to simultaneously release it with a console and handheld version? It would be pretty cool, I guess ...
I'm sure the developers are slowly trying to hide any trace of the past 4 generations of Pokemon which, quite frankly, were the golden years compared to generation 5. It's a shame really. If you asked a new player what a Mewtwo or a Bulbasaur was, odds are they wouldn't be able to tell you or say that you're making up fake Pokemon.
I disagree; I find Pokemon Black and White to be the second best games next to Gold/Silver/Crystal. I mean, it completely updated the graphics of the last generation (which were on the same system) which proved they were really trying to use the DS to its full capabilities. Basically, it looks pretty damn amazing, there's near 650 pokes, and far superior online capabilities. Plus there's triple battles, rotation battles, and the fact some Pokemon, including all starters, have three different abilities. The only thing holding this game back is the lack of re-playability somewhat; no safari zone, no battle frontier, no trainer rematches, etc. Also the game was a bit easy at some points (particularly the first time at the elite four) compared to the other games. Still it's one of the best games on the DS.

Also, I wouldn't say newer entries of the series would not accept the previous Pokemon. I mean, they'll probably encounter enough people to shove the first series down their throats.

As for these new games coming out, I'm not quite sure what to think of them. The new Kyurem forms look lazy and it's to me incredibly disappointing they're not putting it on the 3DS. I'll end up getting it anyway, but I would be happy to wait for them to make a 3DS main-canon game.

Also where the hell is my open-world console-only Pokemon game
what, did they run out of colors?
Wow, this is odd. I fully expected them to do what they've always done, giving us a special edition and possibly remakes of the next generation due for a touch up (Ruby and Sapphire in this case). Very interesting that they'd change it up like this...though now that I think of it, they're probably doing two versions again in order to make more sales. Why they didn't make them for 3DS to get more people to actually buy that system is beyond me, though.

Now I'm all curious. I mean, I've played through Black and White once each and have never encountered Kyurem. Additionally, I was never interested in it at all, and I certainly never thought that it was special enough to be a title legendary. The two forms' resemblances to Zekrom and Reshiram certainly adds some mystery to the whole thing...hmm...

As a fairly devout Pokemon fan, I'm looking forward to these titles. My only concern is the rather close proximity in which the last few main series Pokemon games have been released. I figured they'd give it at least another year or so, biding their time for new ideas in order to really draw in the crowd for their next installments. Oh well.
But but but but....

..whhaaaaa??

In the words of a Dalek: EXPLAIN! EXPLAIN!
I thought there was a law implemented prohibiting the use of numbers in actual Pokemon games. Maybe they've use up every color in the color spectrum, and every mineral ever unearthed. Or maybe they just stopped caring.

Surprisingly, I'm not excited for this release. I get the general impression it's going to be the same game but with more things in it, instead of being the same game with more things in it and the ability to get Pokemon from both games.

Just like every other Pokemon game after Red/Blue?
This...definitively caught me off guard. I was expecing a mix like emerald and platinum, but we got a SEQUEL instead.

The Kyurem forms looks kind of silly, though.
I hope we someday get a game with ALL of the Pokemon in it, i want a Jinx, a Vileplume, a Pinsir, and a Grimer beating the shit out of some fifth generation Pokemon.

The version-exclusive locations are to blame, I think. If they made a new one it wouldn't be compatible with the old games
I think they could get away with the exclusive locations. I mean, one just had trainers while the other had catchable Pokemon. I think they could mix the two nicely. They could probably make the area a suburb.

Gray Cavern instead of Black City/White Forest?
I rather like the idea. I mean really, ever since Black and White came out, everyone's been saying "Eh, I'll wait until Pokemon Gray". But this was unpredictable. It's a pretty cool idea.

Also, I'm pretty sure these will be more than upgraded versions. I'm thinking they're going to be sequels, taking place a few years after the original games (think Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD here). They obviously won't have new Pokemon, but perhaps new forms, new stories, etc.
I'll hold any opinions out until I hear exactly how these will be different, but I'm certainly incredibly curious. I've only just finished White's main story, and I liked it more than others did, mainly because it tried to be itself and not an expansion pack with a "new" story. My curiosity is definitely piqued, though, so I'll be sure to keep an eye out!
Eh, I am not really sure what to think of this... Black/White really pissed me off. It just didn't feel right playing it, compared to others. Now SoulSilver... THAT was a good one. When it comes out, I may read some reviews about it, I definitely won't buy it as soon as it comes out, like I know most people will buy it without a second thought. The Unova map layout was really boring too =P I dunno, just feels like they are putting less and less thought into these games, and just making them because they know they will sell with the famous Pokemon title. Sorry, kinda went on a mini rant there haha.
I'm hoping that the game is only intended to be semi-compatible with the DS, and is more focus on utilising the 3DS's more advanced features.

Anyway, it's a new Pokemon game. I loved Black so I'm all up for a direct sequel.

Alright, speculation time!

Black and White 2 will be either be years after the events of B/W or years earlier. While it makes more sense for it to be set after B/W, we might see a prequel and that could be very interesting, maybe showing off early Unova. Anyhow, either way the terrain will be different, whether it is because things are unexplored or things are in ruin/been redeveloped.

Maybe we will even see a sort of Zelda-esc sequel where "N won" and trainers are without Pokemon and you start a sort of uprising, although I doubt Game Freak would have it be that cool.

I would like to hear more speculations from you guys and I will be posting more later myself.

Edit: Also, I am kinda warming up to the idea of sequels to Pokemon games, they are obviously trying something new and I respect that.
