This thread is probably missplaced and old news for many. Its simply something I found out today that I've wanted for a loooong time, and I tought; why not share it here if someone actually don't know about this (altough I feel I'm the last person in the world to discover it).
So, its a magnifier software that comes with Windows 7... and you may think; what has this with SMW hacking to do? well in my case I've always wanted to zoom in to see details better and to get a better feel on how the level will be while playing instead of a total overview.
To open it, just click on the start menu, and then type "Magnifier".
Here is what it do...

Regular screen

Zoomed in

working on the pixels
Yep.
EDIT: Just move this thread to where you think it fits

This is actually pretty neat. I've always had trouble getting my levels to feel the way I wanted to because of how large Lunar Magic's view is and this seems to be a very good remedy to that.
A level can look awesome in Lunar magic, but a complete mess when actually played.

Yes, you can get a better view of what the level entails using the magnifier, but ultimately, nothing replaces actually playing the stage. In Lunar Magic, you cannot easily tell the trajectory of enemies, the relative height of your jump, etc. However, I do frequently use that tool when I am drawing graphics, since not only does it give you a better view of the details, but if you can also see how the graphics look when they become smaller.
It's a handy tool, is what I'm saying.

The Windows 7 Magnifier has been a tremendous help to me, especially when it comes to Overworld editing. I'll occasionally use it in levels too, mostly to check for cutoff.

I'm probably one of the few people who hacked SMW using Windows XP. I have three computers and each computer has a different OS. The oldest (Which I prefer) has Windows XP as mentioned, the next has Vista, and my laptop has W7. XP does have a magnifier but it just seems... Not good for me. When I hacked the game I just changed my resolution to a smaller one, usually around 1024x768.
But that magnifier trick-dealy-thingy seems to work out quite good. Maybe I'll have to try it again just to see what it's like.

Fantastic this tool man! For a long time I was searching a zoom application. It's a bit complicated to use, in the dynamic mode I mean...but finally I got work it! I'll use it for hacking SMW and our dear little overworld.
