So yeah. As of late, I've tried to come up with a new avatar to replace my old, over-simplistic and out-of-date one. For whatever reason, here are a bunch of my attempts - mostly sketches - in order of creation. The primary problems with these are that they - at least according to Kieran - don't really look like me. (I personally can't tell.)
I decided not to put this in my normal art thread because... uh... Because.
I tried to make an avatar based on this sketch. It didn't work well:
Ugh. Looks very wrong. For comparasion, I tried to simply update my current design:
Nnnno. The old design is way too restrictive in my opinion.
Wanting to move a bit closer to the current design, I tried to make the head more oval while trying to make the gigantic nose be slightly more "realistic".
One of 52 possible designs I drew at one point when I was bored. I liked this one and inked it. I also experimented with changing the nose design while still keeping it larger than normal.
I... dunno.
Another of the 52 sketches. I sort of like how overly cartoony it is.

Interesting in theory.
I really like this one, but I'm uncertain if the sort of detailed face fits with the otherwise oversimplified body. The head was made by tracing a photo of me, simplified and with the proportions slightly altered to be more cartoony. While this may be a good representation of me in real life (although, Kieran disagrees), I sort of miss the large nose.
 
Two other designs based also based on tracing a photo, testing two different kinds of oversized nose designs.
...so yeah. I still have no idea what I want my new avatar to look like.

My thought back then was "I can't draw, so I'll make the most simplistic thing ever". I do not wish to use that mindset any more.
