Recently, in an interview, Gaben said Valve would sell hardware if they had to. Maybe the rumors are coming true after all? Well they might show it (if rumors are true) at the GDC.
The rumored specs are a Core i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GPU. The controller might have swappable components according to a patent Valve filed.
What do you guys think?

I don't really know if I should believe this.

"hardware if we need to"
So perhaps not. It'd probably be cool, but so many Steam games are Windows/Mac anyway, so it might be a reduced Windows box.

I was reading up on the Steamworks website a week-or-so back, and one of the pages pretty much confirmed it. For those who are lazy to read the page or even click the link (but it really is worth the read for more info), they say that:
Originally posted by SteamworksHeading to the living room—or anywhere there’s a big screen—is Steam’s soon-to-be-released big-picture mode, offering simple, easy-to-read navigation designed specifically for TV.
So I thought that pretty much meant that we would be seeing something along the lines of a console some day over the rainbow. Besides, it always seemed like something I thought that Valve would be eager to do as a way of spreading their quickly expanding service even further. Plus it'd be neat just to see some of my steam games on my TV and I might actually play some of them for more than an hour because of it.
I suppose only time will really tell, but there's no doubt in my mind that it will one day happen, it's just whether it will happen now that is the question here.

My god I hope Valve release a console. I have all these source games on my Steam account I'd love to play but can't.

I'd love for this. I'm not a gamer much, and fancy hardware is out of my league (plus Windows, blech) - so I bought a 360 for multiple reasons. I'm jelly of cheap games, open platforms and mods.

Congratulations Valve. Once again you've missed an amazing money making oppertunity.

Eh, well I'm sure they will one day do something like that, but for now I'm interested in hearing more about the "Big Picture Mode UI" thing that seems to be the truth behind this rumour - and by the looks of things, the link I made in my previous post.
Oh and I highly doubt that Valve really needs any more money, mVs~

If I was a millionaire and someone offered me 10k. I wouldn't say no.
