American ISPs to launch massive copyright spying scheme on July 12
By Stephen C. Webster
Thursday, March 15, 2012 11:14 EDT
If you download potentially copyrighted software, videos or music, your Internet service provider (ISP) has been watching, and they’re coming for you.
Specifically, they’re coming for you on Thursday, July 12.
So, a lot of sites, which I would guess will include SMWCentral, will be struck down by this absolute bullsh*t. It'll also affect all other things I can see I enjoy, such as my fandom for Vocaloid, reading mangas online, listening/watching stuff on youtube like music, videos...
EDIT: There's a petition that's fighting something like the news I posted. I already signed it!

Burn all CDs and DVDs everywhere (and I mean set them on fire). No one should ever go to another movie theater ever again. The Goddamn RIAA and MPAA need to go out of business permanently. Those God haters don't care if their whole family and pets are burning alive in front of them and being forced to watch as long as they have more money. Wouldn't be surprised if government officials use the constitution as a sex toy. That's right, your beloved Constitution, as of 2012, is being used as a sex toy. RIP.

Much like the countless Anti-Piracy laws that have been breached, I see very little chance of this working. Not to mention it technically violates the First Ammendment and the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.
Don't get me wrong, I'm against piracy since it steals money from the original creators. It's just that these people aren't really approaching this matter the best way. Internet piracy has been an issue since the early 2000's and government and service providers have been fighting it since then.
The creators of South Park stream their show on their own site for free. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is not only successful because of the show's writing, but it allows fans to download episodes off of iTunes, though they charge $3 each, which is understandable.
And if I'm correct, a website can't be shut down if there is no proof that they're pirating. SMWCentral does not promote pirating and has regulations and legal information.

Even though that is true, we do somewhat indirectly promote piracy because you need a SMW rom file to play or make hacks.
However, people need to take note that there are some good in piracy. For example, when I was 11 years old, I thought that the Kirby series was made for little girls because the main character, Kirby, was pink. Then, I heard of emulators and that you can play nes games, snes games, etc. for free. So due of me being curious, I tried my hands on a Kirby game. And guess what, I really enjoyed it. So then I want out of my way and brought the game.

My, those money-grubbing morons from the stone age sure have been busy this year, haven't they? SOPA, ACTA, Shutting down Megaupload, and now this...it's really getting tiresome.

Actually, we don't. If we did then our rules would force users to not buy an SNES and Super Mario World; most people have both of these anyway, afaik.
Though this new is going to be breached, like TomPhanto said.

*Grooan* THIS shit again?
Does it only matter if you download things after July 12? Just in case it does go into effect for some absolutely retarded reason...

Why am I not surprised? I expect at least 10 more clones of this before the beginning of June. Well, better and better the world is more ran by money than ever- literally they control most actions. Which means people like this will keep throwing bullets because they have plenty of money to waste and government officials to hide behind.
I swear, if we ever get into a World War 3, it will be because of something stupid like this. Us vs them. Sounds fun, no?

Call of duty is WWIII. It actually happened, DUH
Hopefully enough people fight back and this gets thrown in the toilet like SOPA did. But even if sopa got flushed, it still caused Megaupload to get taken down, so what is going to happen this time?

This is private business, the only way to protest it is to boycott those companies. I've been boycotting them for years already, hopefully this gets more people to do it with me.

I would suggest you sign the demand progress petition instead, as it focuses on the companies themselves instead of asking the Obama administration to do something about it (which is something it constitutionally cannot do). However, it is far more important to stop buying anything from those companies. A protest where you don't even get uncomfortable is useless.

There's going to be multiple wars, two in a row for the price of one. One will be battling this nonesense and the other will be fighting machines.
True answer is I typed the wrong number/second guessed myself. Derp.

I'm sure after the watch, they'll arrest millions of people all over the country who pirate.
Honestly, there is no way they could prevent piracy without shutting down the internet. I don't know why they keep trying.

Their effort is like trying to stop a falling building with a toothpick. It just doesn't work. What those companies NEED to do is treat their customers right and give them a great service that pirates can't give. Don't treat them all like criminals just because a few happened to pirate you stuff. Chances are, they are either doing so to try it out or because your prices are just terrible. They really need to stop being greedy and bleeding families of their last penny.
