wouldnt it be cool if people starting modding smwcp2 somewhat similar to skyrim / fallout ?
when the hack is released will you be releasing the addmusic folder with the preset settings for the tracks ?
releasing songs that were accepted into the hack but gone unused ?
how about the HDMA ?
i have no idea if this site would be against modding but I know im gonna be making personal moddifications to my verson to fit my personal prefences reguardless of anybodyelse opinions !
Just wondering on the whole matter in advance to the hack being complete, a whole seperate forum for modding this game could have a huge impact !

IIRC the resources from the hack will be released with the hack itself.
Althought i don't know if it's absolutely everything (except for the bosses or LevelASM), or if it's just the graphics/music.

I suppose it'll be a similar deal to SMWCP where the resources will be released at the authors say so.

that would be a shame !
I can see a small forum on modding this game a small example
- recoloring palette's
- graphics
- music / sfx
- hdma
- levelASM
- even possibly editing levels
of course any modded smwcp2 hack would be rejected from submission unless it would be in that subject forum based on modding this hack !

The hack will be unlocked when it's released, thus allowing for personal edits, if that's what you mean.

well this game is awesome but there are levels, graphics and music replacements i would like to make for my own custom verson. also why not allow modded versons of this game after all, it will only bring this hack more attention !
with the hack simply unlocked i and others would be restricted from editing a single music track without deleting the rest.
there are levels i hate in this hack.... very few which i would like to compleatly remove from my verson for my own enjoyment and remake myself for my own verson which i will do ether way but snn said all the resourses will be released im just pointing out that i would also like the ablitly to change the music list around and obtain unused tracks in the hack.

I don't even know where to begin with this, but I'll give it a shot.
- In a way, doing something like that is insulting to the designer unless the level is irredeemably bad.
- Since the collab is still unfinished, you can easily provide feedback to the General Discussion thread and possibly get these offending levels improved, assumed that you're not one of those people.
- Editing levels to satisfy YOUR desires. Why don't you put that time and effort into making your own hack?
- Your grammar is bad.

Wait...even though it's not a bug, we can provide feedback to inserted levels?
*goes to General Thread*
Anywho, drmatt, are you saying you want your "custom" SMWCP2, and then release it to others?
(I'm really against with the hack being unlocked, it's a sure thing that the game would become another Redrawn base rom if we do that, thus killing the creativity in SMWCP2, but that's another story.)

Unless someone specifically asks me NOT to release a resource with the hack, I was intending on simply uploading my entire SMWCP2 folder with everything in it. Whether or not this is a good idea remains to be seen, but I guarantee if I take a vote on it, the results will be split 50/50 (half wanting it, half not).
Shrug.

not at all, their would be a fine line inbetween uploading updated samples, updated exgfx files, replacing tracks, ect and reuploading a major hack like this with a couple of changes, i would vote hacks based off smwcp2 uploaded to the site be rejected unless it was in a complete seperate subforum and had no affiliation with anything else.

Assuming everything gets released along with the game, you can "mod" the game however you like disregarding everything that has been said in here opposing your ideas. To be honest, a whole subforum dedicated to changing SMWCP2 doesn't sound interesting at all; the purpose of this very website is to dedicate itself to hacking the game SMWCP2 is based on. You might as well just make your very own hack in that case.
tl;dr: Just change the game to your own likings once it's out and ignore everybody here opposing you. You would do it either way, wouldn't you? ;)

To be honest, I'll be voting 'no' for having the resources released.
Yes, I understanding releasing stuff is cool, but I can easily see stuff (especially the bosses) be overused to the point they become the next 'Homing Thwomp'.
I also feel that SMWCP should as aesthetically original as possible. Part of that is using original graphics and stuff. Releasing those graphics sort of ruins the whole "exclusive" atmosphere it has. Finally, things like the SMWC coin patch, which would be fucking awesome by the way. , would also be overused. This'd ruin the creativity of the feature in SMWCP2, and in conclusion, people wouldn't view it as highly as they would when it was first released.
Sorry for the confusing post.
EDIT: And I reckon it should be locked too, to be honest. :/
The last thing we want is theft.

Not to be a bummer or anything, but isn't there a tool that unlocks locked hacks? You don't really have to worry about someone stealing the hack, because the whole world would know he/she's lying. If something becomes overused, then that's the game designers fault. They will have created a hack that no one likes because they've played it before. That's on them. I don't think it should be something that should have to be protected from.
@JDC: Regarding the SMWC Coin Patch thing, they based that off of NSMB/NSMBWii. (I assume) When SMWCP2 comes out, I wouldn't think that NSMB(Wii)
was less creative, or view it anymore lower, so to say. Unless, you mean to say it would be awkward seeing the use of the patch everywhere?
At any rate, people would view the "copying hack", so to say, as less original and less creative and not the other way around.

The SMWCoin patch would likely require you to use the status bar being used for the collab anyway, plus there's also something additional to it for the Overworld.
Unless there's a version that was also made for the standard status bar.

Yes, there is a tool to undo ChibiMoon locks, and there are a few locking methods that are done using a hex editor and reversed with the same hex editor.
But there is no tool to undo other vandalism (such a tool is impossible, there's too many ways to break a ROM), and we've got plenty of ASMers around here.

Couldn't at least the people who were involved with SMWCP2 get unlocked copies? Admittedly, that's a lot of people, but still... Any hack that I download that turns out to be locked, I always unlock it if I can just on principle, even if I end up never doing anything with the hack after that.
Also, some of the graphics used in SMWCP2 are already on the site. I don't know if the same is true for music or sprites, but the rule was that all of the graphics would be custom ones, not that they would be made specifically for SMWCP2. Foop's desert GFX and LunarDrake's circus set are examples.

I have no plans to lock the hack at all simply because of the reasons already stated (that is, locking hacks has been futile and particularly useless for the past couple of years). I apologize to the people who don't agree with that, but it's impossible to please everyone (i.e. if I locked the hack, then I'd have a group of people who want it unlocked on my back instead).

Yes you would.
The idea of not releasing resources because you want to be unique is very pervasive in our society and is, honestly, a huge problem. It's not just in hacking, it's in every field, and the net effect of it is that progress is held back for quite some time. I'm not meaning to go into a rant about copyright and patents, but in a community that exists for the sole purpose of advancing SMW hacking, holding back something you created seems counter intuitive.
