I was wondering what the general stance on political or debating threads here. There are a lot of people who are pretty good at expressing their political views politely, but on the other hand, political threads are usually flamewar material on many other forums.
So I wanted to ask if a political/debate thread would be a viable option or just a flametrap.

Well, a lot of that usually happens here but it deals with current events and whatnot. Not too sure if anyone wants a general debate thread there or not but who knows? Probably wait for some others to respond.

It would be hard to keep a general political debate thread on a community as international as this one, since every country has a different politic system, and it's not like if everybody knew a lot about the politics of other countries. Besides I can perfectly see that thread flooded with posts like "the president of my country is such a corrupt asshole because of this and that..."

Hot off the press should suffice, I think.

There's not really any need for a specific political debate thread, just make a thread about something political and there will be debate on it ("There's always debate").
