I was under the impression that Mario's palette was EXCLUSIVE to palette 8 and then I saw this bullshit. It's from an old hack that Pac made, (SMB3 palette). I'm trying to make my own and I already ran out of room. Left pal 0-1 open since a tutorial told me to, used pal 2-4 for the background, used pal 3-7 for foreground, since that's the only thing left to use, and then 9-F for sprites (is that right?). Can someone explain to me how this is even possible? I need as much palette room as possible!

Because it's not possible to change Mario's palette when you have "Custom palettes" enabled, thus changing palette 8 doesn't affect him at all.

Whoops that's where I screwed up. Apparently that's just how the original SMB3 SMAS palette is ordered. I imported it entirely instead of just pieces. Got it working fine now. <_<
