http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_fallacy
1)
Belonging to a group does not mean it is reasonable to assume they carry a trait or behavior stereotypically associated with that group. And since it comes up often, "choice" of being in that group is utterly irrelevant and does not justify said prejudicial assumptions.
2)
Actually carrying those stereotypical traits or behaviors is not inherently bad. I'm very tempted to punch people in the face who say things along the lines of "stop being stereotypical" or "stop making the rest of us look bad." Blame those making the association fallacy, not those with the traits or behavior the fallacy is being based on.
So I guess my answer is this: I have no problem with nerds. I may have a problem with certain individuals who identify as nerds, but not due to them being in that group.

I'm probably a nerd (in fact, all my friends say I am) but this isn't a problem. I have a great bunch of friends.
Also about the actual nerds (that ones knowned by not having any friends and passing by shame situations), I don't know. I think in the society I live nerds and bullying are things that don't exist. Anyways, I could treat them normally, they're common people - well, at least they're trying to be in the eyes of the society - and need to be treated as. Just the therm "nerd" is an offense for them.

Some peoples says I'm a nerd but I consider myself a geek (gotta love these gadget stuff) but in my opinion, people hate them because there's a mixed opinions, some peoples hates them because of envy and some other peoples hate them just because they're too "lazy" to learn something and they're scared about the future.

I just don't classify myself... I hate beinc classified.
But nerds... I hate them, really!
Don't get me wrong: If you consider yourself a nerd, first, it depends from your point of view, then, there is nothing to be proud of being a nerd. First, from my point of view, a nerd is a despicable person who is just opinionated towards people and it is obsessed with stuff, usually, with PC and computing ones. For example, one that flames you in a forum because you are unsure about a PC or a Mac and if this person hates Mac, well, this is a nerd as well.
Usually, when i say "nerd" i talk about people who have nothing better to do rather than arguing about bullshit, being sorry for themselves and being frustrated as heck in general. One person i know is like this and i'm pretty sick of hearing bad things about my job field. If someone is being too serious about very loose things (kinda videogames), from my point of view this is a nerd. and videogame nerds (like the sonic fans who boycotted Sonic 4 buyinh Sonic 1 or the fans who argue about Mario and Sonic) are one of the worst people you may meet. Once i was doing a fanfic making nerds as the main antagonists.
If you consider yourself a nerd only because you like videogames... you won't get my grudge: i just hate obsessed peoples who don't do anything else but feel you a misfit.

I can't really hate nerds because i'm nerdy myself. The article... yes, the article made a huge mistake: stereotyping. Perhaps one of my biggest pet peeves.

I don't know any "nerds" right now. I don't really believe in the whole "nerd" thing anyway. I think it is just a stereotype that Hollywood made up to get more money...

Hell I'll jump to the defense of the obsessed folk.
The real word you're looking for is jerk. I do not believe in taking anything "too seriously", only having messed up priorities. If they are rude or won't stop ranting about things after you tell them to stop, then I don't see how their obsession has anything to do with it; it just happens to be the focus of their inconsiderate behavior. They're likely an egocentric jerk regardless.
Honestly, I find cultural obsessions to be positive qualities. I have absolutely zero interest in sports, but walking into a sports fan's room full of memorabilia for their favorite team is pretty damn awesome. Not a trekkie, but wouldn't mind walking around a star trek convention. Etc.
So long as they're not being short sighted, I see absolutely zero problem. Living in a cardboard box to buy pony figurines? Yeah might be a problem. But if their life is on track for what they want (not what you think respectable), then I don't care.
Frankly, anyone who promotes apathy as some sort of virtue can go suck an egg. Direct your hate toward inconsiderate douchebag behavior, not people liking and caring about things you don't.

Using Kaijyuu's definition I come to a similar conclusion.
Being obsessed with anything- at all- doesn't bother me. But in our society we have agreed for everyone's comfort that if it's not a comfortable conversation topic, you don't bring it up. That's common courtesy. So being nerdy- in that you are obsessed with a niche culture- is fine. But when you start being public about it, thats a problem.
Ex. Coming to school with a Rainbow Dash stuffed animal taped to your back. Or as simple as steering conversation towards Spiderman all the time. That would be a bad idea.

Obsession or passion?
Obsession is something about you can't live with and something about you do negative mental masturbation, while the passion is something about you can to.
If you have an obsession, it means you have problems, you feel sorry for something. Because not obsessed people are usually happy people.
No really, all nerd i met in real life are sad people with problems i would even not like to attend (i wanna see people laughing and smiling, not long muzzles). That person i was talking about says she's proud of being a nerd, but seeing her conditions, i would say she's not happy at all: she just tell me bad experiences, says that she works 15 hours per day (is that possible?), she earns not much, she's poor... How would you define a person like this? Those people, if they want to catch up, need a smile, they don't need of being proud of being a nerd!

I'm a *nerd*, but I'm not hated. I have friends. But of course, I'm the quiet nerd.

Hmm......I am neutral to these entities. But that depends what kind they are.
First, there are the Lawful Nerds who are sociable, and overly intelligent and can think of the most interesting things.
Then there are the Neutral Nerds who don't usually care for the outdoors and would almost believe and theorize anything.
But...then......there art the Chaotic Nerds who sees their world as an abomination, only to escape to their aidful internet to satisfy themselves to other worlds they have the yen to go there physically (which they cannot for they rely on one type of technolgy [guess...]). They happen to be what I see as "rascally yeaforsooth knaves", with all their arguing and haphazardous theories. An rightfully example of these is Francis (The third boss of Super Paper Mario).

And so i think the first two categories are not nerds.
I am pretty sure that one normal person doesn't take things seriously like a real nerd does.
For example, if you ask a question about Mac and PC, well, a nerd replies like "Fuck shut up Mac sux PC pwns!!!".

I love Nerds. I think they're better than Skittles and Starbursts, though I still love those candies. My favorite Nerds are the purple ones.

After all, aren't we all nerds to some degree? Nonetheless, I feel the need to be popular in school was a big issue back for others. It's sad that even being around certain people can make that person less likable. Though I feel it's important to be yourself no matter what since the quality of your friends is more important than being friends with the "cool kids".

This.
Easy rule that will save people a lot of headache: Anyone who thinks you should be more "normal" for no other reason than it being normal is NOT someone you want to associate with.
You're a nerd? Great. You're not? Great. Don't do anything just to conform, is all (barring not doing things that are illegal).

Epic Mario Player, posting in old threads (generally threads that have gone more than one month without any replies), is generally frowned upon and it's something you should avoid doing, especially if you're not going to contribute to the thread and say you don't have any opinion. Please avoid doing so in the future. Thanks.
