Hack Name: Super Mario - Washed Ashore

Description: -Story-
After an epic battle between Mario and Bowser, mario gets hit on the head and falls into the ocean. He gets washed ashore and he discovers he is on an island. He goes exploring!

Be as picky as possible! I want to improve.



Reasons

First of all, if you're the one who made it, leave the "Author" field as it is. Keep your user ID in here, it'll automatically turn into a link later on.


See if you can give the file selection menu the proper palette.


Any reason some level tiles are revealed from the beginning?


You shouldn't be able to enter diagonal pipes like this. See what SMW did to block access to their insides.
Also, this feels a lot like a generic level 105 edit. Delete an existing SMW level (Ctrl+Del) before making a new one.

Looks like you're forced to take a hit here. Not cool.


That Piranha Plant is useless and you know it. If it gets stuck in the ceiling before it can do any harm to you, why not get rid of it altogether?


If you don't react quickly enough to land on one of the Koopas, you'll fall to your death. Not cool #2 - you should always land on safe ground after being shot out of a pipe.


Actual corner tiles would look so much better here.
Also, it's impossible to get there as small Mario, and it's possible to be small here. Conclusion: It's possible to get stuck here. Not cool #3.


The switch palace can be re-entered but the switch will disappear after the first time, leaving you stuck here, forced to commit suicide. Not cool #4.


Slight cutoff on the Bullet Bill shooters, as well as where the pipes meet the ground.


In my eyes, forced bullet jumps are something you'd see in a Kaizo hack. Think twice if you really need to have one here.


Slightly cutoff vine ends.


Make sure fish stay in the water.


When you kill the Koopa and are neither big nor on Yoshi, you're stuck here. not cool #lost track.


Missing candle flame generator.
Also, you're stuck in here - not cool, you know the deal. Make sure you can exit "End of demo" levels without dying.




Reading our Hack Submission Guidelines and watching this video would do you good. Reading AxemJinx's level design guide might also be of use.

Not bad! There are a few things you need to fix, though.

- First off, you submitted only 1 screenshot. You'd need more screenshots to actually show off your hack, showing different levels, maybe even the OW.

- The music broke in snes9x 1.52+ / bnses. While it's not required, it's highly recommended to make your hack SNES-compatible.



Very minor, but there's a small cutoff there.



This feels pretty Kaizo-ish, I had to try this jump at least 5-6 times.





Sprite memory errors. Either try another value in the Sprite Header property editor (Lakitu head in LM) or use the No More Sprite Tile Limitations patch.



Bad FG/BG initial position for level entrance. This diagram might help.

Mario's still able to go "into" the slanted pipe here.



Even if it's a "demo end" or "preview" level, it still should have the candle sprite (E6) in the background.



And you totally shouldn't include "TEST" rooms in your hack.
