Thoughts on "Slice of Life"?

What are your feelings towards Slice of Life shows, or SoL episodes of a show? Do you like, them, not mind them, or would you prefer not watching them? Or outright hate them? Why do you feel this way towards SoL?

I personally enjoy some SoL, as long as it doesn't get too boring. Thougj that rarely happens; I guess watching so many has increased my tolerance. What I like about SoL is that it makes you relax/feel good, without worrying about a plot, like characters dying. Thus, in SoL, much emphasis is placed on characters.

I only enjoy Slice of Life shows (not just episodes) if they feature a strong amount of comedy. Otherwise I just get bored easily... (Apart from Clannad, still the goddess of all SoL ;-; )

Also, having a portion of an action-heavy show like that is sometimes refreshing and lets you relate to the characters in some way.

I kind of disagree since I have seen countless non-SoL show's that are just as deep/ touching/ etc. as your typical (basing from what I have seen a lot of, not just in full SoL shows but in minor spin-offs and episodes too) SoL scenario.

But yeah, I can see why people enjoy them...

I very much like them, because they are my favorite kind of anime.

That is if stuff happens like character developement or relations.
However if like nothing happens for like 20 episodes I find them Eh.
As such I found Lucky Star to be borderline eh.
However, I liked Clannad, Toradora and K-On Quite a bit =D
Nice genre.
Eh, I dunno, personally for an anime to interest me it's really got to have a cool supernatural element involved. I'm not as drawn into shows that remain within the bounds of normal reality, since in the first place I use fiction as a means to be freed from everyday life.

Though, as OGS mentioned, enough (good) comedy can keep things entertaining I suppose.
I only enjoy the comedy versions of SoL
Usually Slice of Life anime focusses on humor, since there's most of the times not that much plot to keep it going forward.
However, every now and again a slice of life appears that goes away from the formula, and goes like, lol madoka.
I like it in small doses. Not a huge fan, aside from the ones that aren't just sort of Azumanga Daioh with the character archetypes rearranged.

I also have to disagree on the whole character focus thing in a way. It seems like usually the characters often have well-established personality, but at least for the more plotless shows, you don't really get to see much if any development out of them. They're just sort of there and (hopefully) likeable, and that's apparently supposed to be enough to keep things entertaining, maybe.

Incidentally, I loved Lucky Star, easily one of the worst offenders of basically everything I just complained about.

Hmm, I guess that is true.
But usually slice of Life anime also incorperate romance into the mix, which adds for some really good character developement.
However with stuff like K-on and Lucky star, I have to agree. Barely any developement D=
