Tip: Keep track of ALL patches and hex edits in case you need to transfer your data to a new ROM. It's definitely worth the trouble.

It's a hex edit. Those patches won't help much, unless you want some random other thing to happen for whatever reason.
The status bar won't even affect it.

I don't think doing the collab part is that great of an idea, unless more people are willing to allow their levels to be inserted than last year (last year, only about half, maybe less, of the people who submitted entries wanted it in the collab).

yczedit: for the nth time, code tags should not be used for ROM/RAM map stuff

I agree with this. I think last year, people were overly ambitious, which ultimately led to its neglect and eventual abandonment. The main reason, I think, the collaboration failed last year was because nobody was experienced with putting all of the levels and miscellaneous things together. Not to bring up a subject that may be "touchy" for some users, but it's the reason why Diddy's collab flopped: poor organization and leadership.

In my opinion, a collaboration hack shouldn't be the topic of discussion at this point. It's a bonus; an "extra" to be added to the whole event, if you feel so inclined as to call it that. Priorities are a must - remember that.

Yeah I just noticed that in the ROM Map

What were the specifics of the last contest? Like criteria for the hacks and how they will be judged?
I assume it will be the same. Also, could anybody give me criticism on my level? Otherwise I will be most likely submitting it as is.

I think the part with the whack-a-mole Lemmy is probably my least favorite part. It looks not so much difficult as long, having to wait for the layer 2 spikes to open up AND have Lemmy be in a place where you can jump on him. Might not be as bad if you put more hazards and/or made him take less hits.
Not necessarily criticism, but something I wonder: why did I hear the "hurry up" sound when the time is disabled in that room?
Also, is the death music still 'rescue egg?'
It looks fairly creative, especially the rainbow shell bit and the final boss fight.

The hurry up music was to transition when Lemmy got mad and started to come out of the top pipes.
Don't ask for level criticisms! That utterly ruins the point of making the level yourself. Plus, the contest hasn't even started yet. Calm yourself.

Do you know nothing about how people make levels? Criticism is present, even if it is in a contest. SMWC has always allowed users to exchange feedback during a contest.
I've seen plenty of people give criticism during the Vanilla Contest. I thought it was morally questionable at first, but it's like saying that asking someone to look over your portfolio piece and give suggestions for revision so you can get a better grade is morally questionable.
It's giving away ideas is what I meant.
I did not mean giving suggestions for a better score. I meant pointing out potential flaws that a creator would most likely not spot, and only a playtester would.
By the way mathelete, I don't think submitting Kaizo Kastle is the best idea, especially since part of the point of this contest is to make a level specifically for it, and Kaizo Kastle is a pretty old hack.
Well, some parts are pretty old, while other parts are quite new. The parts that are quite new were made in anticipation of this contest.

The whole level should be unique to the contest, not just one or two things.
Well, let's see, the first area is 2 years old. And the first room of the castle is 2 1/2 years old. I think I can renovate the first room of the castle. The other part that is 2 years old seems fine as it is.
Is it too challenging to make something unique?
What do you mean "unique"? Cause I can easily make that first castle room new. The outside of the castle though, was created by me without any real idea where I would use it or submit it. And now I know where to submit it. But I can easily make unique stuff too. The only thing is, I would have to make a unique thing that is better than the older thing I made (which I never even submitted anywhere).
Does someone want to make an official "this is happening, here are the rules, lets go, start making hacks nao" thread, or shall we keep talking =P
I'm starting to have second thoughts about being a judge. I'm probably much better at playing my own levels than playing other peoples', and I haven't played nearly as many Kaizo hacks as others here have (and the list of ones I have completed is way fewer). I fear that if I play it blind, then I will get stuck somewhere, having no clue how to progress, and maybe mistakenly deeming it impossible to complete. I hope we would still have enough judges otherwise.
