I agree with this. Even though I did not enter I looked through the judging texts but some seemed really dickish. I'm not going to give examples but some of the comments were just rude. I'd rather say something on this than rather let it my opinion go unheard but I'm sure some will agree with me. I know everyone thinks differently and has their own opinion and whatnot but yeah... :/

Anyway with that aside congrats to all who entered! :D

Seriously, I thought your level looked good, but it didn't play that well at all. Like Axem said, the sprite placement wasn't very interesting: just some random walking enemies on flat ground. This is one of those levels that focusses too much on the graphical look and not on the gameplay.

You can't really say everyone here is a "schooler", no? And yes, we modify the game for fun. What else do you expect then? The levels need to be fun. And I think you didn't really get that point.

I myself find the reviews a lot better than last year. A lot more in-detail (especially Axem and DeePay) than the previous years. 8D

Actually, I tried it myself, and it patches and loads up but the level looks like this:



Then the boss victory music plays and the level ends. If three judges and bunch of other people can't get your level to work, then it doesn't work, and should be disqualified (and I'm using a clean rom since I can play everything else). You may want to check if your original "clean rom" is actually a clean rom.
It's supposed to do that. It's some kind of joke level.
To me, it looks like a glitch, rather than a joke.
There's a reason why I didn't bother trying to properly "score" that entry.

Oh do please provide some examples instead of going around screaming "Oh no this person's judging on this level hurted my feelings."
I, too, wish to read comments on my level from FirePhoenix. I'm happy with my ranking overall. I think it's fair. I was going to update it but I forgot about it. I enjoyed reading the comments that were actually there, though.

Really, if you really used that as an excuse to drop an level score for whatever the reason, i wonder why you are a judge on this contest. Please take a look on your level design knowledge, and then try to notice that you have none.

It's a good level, but just because it looks good, you forgot to notice that.

You judge yourself so professional, yet you share no indication that you are. Sorry to tell you that but, you think you're too good because you got a bit of praise, and you grew rude because of that. You're not everything you think you are.

Axemjinx, on the other hand. Did an better judging then the Mr over there. But i still found unfair how the score was give. Fact is, like i said up there, if you don't like cutscenes or storyline in hacks it's your personal preference, and you should judge if your point is relevant to the overall score. Same for the cameo, what is the fucking problem into having he saying "Hi, i'm a cameo"
I also found your statement about enemies placement to be rather nonsensical, you said you liked some enemies placement, provided a sense of activity and they get into the environments. Then just because there are no "Flying" enemies around it's not good? Oh pardon me, but i guess it's not a good point you made there.

So my thoghts on this judging on my level are, that you both got distracted by the look of the level that forgot to notice the level design. That frankly, you both tryed to justify a low score with mediocre points that made no sense, or are related with the level design itself, as i did not read anything regarding the level shapes and creativity used in the use of resources.

I'm pretty disapointed.
I did not read the other entries comments yet, but i'm sure most of them are as unprofessional as this one was.
Well Ludus kinda summed up some of my points. After beta testing his level and what not the "Blatant Lies" part is what kinda got me the most. I ignored the message, heck I don't even think I read it. It's not like he forced the player to stay there and said it was something you needed to do to beat the level. It was an added bonus and that's all I have to say.

I thought some of the entries really deserve a much better rank. Okay, not mine, since I proved that my level was focused on one thing for most of the time, except for the cave area, but still, I think it's dumb. I mean, I wonder if they even read the first message box in my level. When they got to the 2nd ON/OFF switch, they should have pressed it to take it down. I mean, just simply revealing the line-guided path would make it too obvious.
Another example, besides Ludus' entry would be BMF's one. Seriously, that one deserved to be in the top 10. Well, I just hope the next vanilla contest won't have judges that are too strict(FirePhoenix is a good judge).

BMF was top 10.
Except Ludus' level really isn't all that great. It DOES focus on trying to be pretty. The cave is cramped and annoying, and you won't see the munchers the first time you have to jump into the water because the ceiling is too low to not.

And that WAS a blatant excuse for the palette animation, which I think should've been kept out personally. It doesn't look vanilla at all. To the point where a lot of people who haven't messed around with the new LM called bullshit on it.

I myself don't agree with some of what was said, but that's why there's multiple judges. If they all say your level isn't that great? Well, too bad. Sorry.

No, it's excessive and shows your priorities weren't on good level design, they were on making it look pretty.

Making stuff look pretty is great, but make the damn level fun first.

Maybe the problem with it not looking vanilla is that this is a vanilla contest, and that stuff that doesn't look vanilla violates the spirit of the contest?

I played Ludus' entry. It's actually really good. It could have gotten a much better score. I beat it on my second try(first death because of me being stupid).
