I've been hacking SMW for almost 2 years, and I know how to do most things with Lunar Magic (design levels, create palettes, make animations, etc.), as well as:

- Ripping graphics
- Drawing graphics (though I'm not the greatest at this)
- Create simple ASM (I can't do anything more complicated than make a simple block, though)
- Modify patches, music, graphics to suit my needs.
- Port music (I have a general idea of how to do it, but I'm very bad at it, and it takes too much effort for me to create a song).
- Make hex edits
- Some of things I can't think of right now.

It's a good thing I've learned a lot about SMW hacking after all this time, since I've recently got one of my younger brothers into SMW hacking.
I still can't believe that I've been hacking for almost 3 1/2 years and I still don't know what "LDA" and "STA" are.
- basically everything in LM
- using other tools
- music porting (not the very best, but I can use most of the stuff that can be used in porting)
- graphics ripping
- basic ASM (simple blocks, stuff in VWF Dialogues)
- maaaybe drawing graphics, but it's really not that good

What I wish I could do:
- compose my own music
- be better at drawing graphics
- more ASM knowledge
- and finally finish my hack!!!

Anywho, joking aside:

Things I want to achieve:
- Finish my hack
- Learn more ASM, at least the point I can mix existing ASM to create patches and sprites and whatnot; it I could only learn how to turn create a Big Ivy
- Better graphics making
- Everything in LM
- Advanced ExAnimation
I can do:

-All LM things (Exanimation, palettes, map16 etc)
-I'm quite good at Level Design, or at least I think I am. :P
-I'm good at decoration and general aesthetics. (making levels look nice)
-I'm knowledgeable in pretty much all SMW Hacking tools.
-I can insert all other resources (ExGFX, cluster sprites.. whatnot)
-I can rip ExGFX (kinda) but I think it is boring, so I don't. Plus, I'm not too great at it.
-I can NOT port/compose music sadly. I hope to learn to port music in the future.
-I know a little ASM (the basics) but nothing too advanced. I could probably make a simple block or two. What I usually do is modify sprites/blocks etc to suit my needs - for example, changing the custom sprites that are spawned on a sprite, or, making it end the level once it is defeated.

What I want to do:
-A bit more ASM
-Perhaps learn to port.
- I can almost fully use Lunar Magic
- I can draw some custom GFX (but I suck at BGs)
- I can design good levels (kind of)
- I can use all the tools I need
- I can make both unsampled and sampled custom music using both Addmusic4.05 and/or AddmusicM
- I can make some custom blocks
- I can make simple patches
- I can make custom generators (it's really simple)
- I can make silly 16x16 custom animated sprites which do nothing other than walking around, hurting Mario and dying
- I forgot how to make HDMA gradients I know how HDMA works, but I just use the tools when I'm lazy
- I can be lazy about all of the previous statements
- I can plan a hack
- I can't finish it

I can do some things:

I can rip graphics;
I can port a music, but I'm a "new entry";
I can make some HDMA effects;
I can use almost all the tools for editing SMW;
I can use Lunar Magic very good;
...and I can ask for help when I need it!#w{xD}

My aspirations are porting even better, like learning ADSR and sample music, and learning ASM in a possible future.
-Level Design, though I don't know how good i am really
-Basics of OW design, even though i havent made one. ever
-Tileset mixing
-Exgfx
-Custom Pallets
-The ability to test my levels over 700 times yet still not being satisfied with the final result
-Music insertation, but i seem to have difficulties getting it to work sometimes
-Sprite insertation, but i forget how....
Just a side note:


To everyone who might feel inadequate when comparing yourself to others here with higher proficiency, do note that most of us who know how to do crazy stuff never actually finished anything. If you've got a completed hack then you're way more productive than me, even if all you know how to do is use Lunar Magic.
Wow...I...just...noticed that there isn't (at least to my knowdlege) huge ASMer who has finished a hack.

I started hacking around late 2009, early 2010. I know pretty much everything LM-wise, but I don't know any ASM. I can insert ExGFX, and a little music. I haven't hacked since last year, though. So, I'm on a hiatus too.
I know how to:
* Insert ExGFX
* Insert ASM patches with XKas
* Insert custom music with HuFlungDu's AddMusic
* Do hex edits
* Insert custom sprites with Romi's SpriteTool
* Do basic ExAnimation and palette ExAnimation
* Draw custom ExGFX
* Port/Compose custom music
* Do VERY basic ASM (I need to learn a lot more if I'm ever to finish Mecha-Bowser's Revenge. I need bosses.)
Let's see:
  • I like to think that I'm fairly good at level design, although I have a lot of trouble gathering the motivation to finish a level
  • I'm proficient in the basics of ASM, enough to code my own sprites, blocks, and simple patches
  • I'm sort of decent at drawing graphics for simple foreground tilesets, but I'm absolutely terrible at sprite graphics
  • I've dabbled a bit in music porting, and though it was a while ago I think I still remember the very basics

All in all, not too bad. I just wish I was better at actually finishing stuff instead of coming up with new projects all the time.

This, pretty much exactly - thanks for saving me some typing time.
(Except for foreground graphics perhaps, I like to think I'm reasonably good at that.)
I can make decent gfx for FG and more-or-less for sprites
I am working on making my own music and eventually porting.
I am no good at level design, and don't know how to fix most of glitches in smw.
I learned a little bit of ASM, but it is mostly just crap that slows down the game.
I've been hacking for almost two years now, and that's what I know:
- Almost everything about Lunar Magic
- Inserting custom GFX, music, patches, blocks, etc.
- Create decent custom GFX (Sprites and FG)
- Modificate patches, blocks, sprites, etc. to my needs
- Porting music, but have some problems with octaves
- 'Remixing' MIDIs
Very basic ASM (trying to learn, but I already know some custom block stuff
- Make Hex Edits
- Level Design, and I think it's the thing I'm better at (it's my main focus anyway :P)

What I don't know but pretend to learn:
- Intermediate/advanced ASM
- Layer 3 BGs
- Level ASM
- How to make good compositions
I got into SMW hacking about two years ago and kind of lost interest in it lately, but other than anything programming related I think I know how to do most things.

I know how to do (almost) everything within LM, how to use BT/BTSD, xkas, SpriteTool/tweaker, YY-CHR and Translhextion (somewhat). When I last tried using Addmusic (about a year ago), I failed horribly at it, but if I really had the motivation I'd probably be able to use that too.

I also made some (pretty basic) original sprite graphics for my hack. I don't really know if they're good, but I personally like them.
