XLK's graphics galore

Here are some of the FG's I've been working on over time.More will be d in as I finish em up.

Vanilla remasterd

A remastered version of SMW's grass tileset graphics that uses a custom palette and the original games palette.Recomended if you have a vanilla hack and would like to give it a chocolate look.Warning:berries/berry bushes aren't modified.
Heres the link to it.

Pseudo 3D grassy cliffs

A pseudo 3D tileset that is simple to tile.Made this long time ago, yet it was a pretty decent tileset, so I decided to upload it.
The description should contain links to blocks made by alcaro for the waterfalls.

Sand FG

This tileset is mostly compatible with the original games map16, as it includes rock, shels and a starfish wich have to be done manually. It includes the column platfoms wich if modified to use the same palette as the sand look very nice.

Thick grass FG

(Screenshot only shows a small part of the tileset, as I made it in a hurry)
Very hard to tile tileset, as I compacted it a tad much. While if tiled correctly and with a good palette it will look great, it does take up most of a map16 page.Take your time while tileing.
Smooth palettes will have great effect, while rough palettes will make it look grainy.
This set works OK without layer priority, but with layer priority it will require layering(using layer1 + layer2(no interact)to get tiles on top of eachother).

Airship and BG

A slightly outdated screenshot, but it still shows the tileset. Its a simple airship tileset with all kinds of misc. airship stuff: canons, boxes, crates, etc.
It also includes a cloud BG.

Ruin FG

A tileset with many misc. objects, including an asortment of diferent blocks, brocken/exposed bricks, small tiles, large tiles, columns, etc.
Everything is made to be able to transition smoothly.

That is all for now, more will be edited in soon.

Those are looking pretty great, man. I must say my favorite is the desert FG. The vanilla remasterd one also looks really nice, I can see it being used in some vanilla-styled hacks. Although I've never liked the pseudo-3D graphical style, I must say those look pretty great too.

Good job on these!
Very nice, I especially like the remastered vanilla stuff here (odd enough, but I think there weren't enough good looking vanilla-ish graphics on the site, so this will come handy). I also like the other two graphics sets, for some reason the grassy hills one reminds me a bit on Kirby... it's pretty great nonetheless.
@GeorgeVsSonic: I am glad you like the pseudo 3D tileset, those are the hardest to get to look good!
@Hadron: Also glad you like it!That tileset probably reminds you of kirby because it uses the same perspective and similar cube style.

Also, added another tileset.I was unsure of adding it, but at the end I did.

These graphics look great, xlk!

Vanilla remastered: Looks nice! This looks a lot more natural than the original vanilla SMW graphics. The textures and colours are really nice.

Pseudo 3D grassy cliffs: Very nice, the colours remind me of Green Hill Zone from Sonic The Hedgehog.

Sand FG: Looks very realistic. I know this isn't part of what's being shown off, but I love the BG in that screenshot. It just suits the FG really well.

Thick grass FG: The texture here is really awesome! It looks very realistic. This FG would be fitting in a woodland/forest area.Free counters!
@Jeorge535:
Thanks alot for the positive feedback!
The desert BG will be released when I finish it, as its missing decoration and needs some compacting, it has some repeated tiles...

Remastered grass tileset: Oh yes, much better than SMW's regular one.
Pseudo-3D tileset: Eh...it looks okay, but something about the colors doesn't look good to me. Maybe the orange is too bright, or there isn't enough detail.
Sand tileset: Not bad, not bad at all. I can see this fitting well in either a desert or beach.
Thick grass tileset: Pretty cool. It reminds me of some of PercentN's stuff a bit, although his tend to be brighter.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
These are all extremely good, especially the desert tileset, which I think I might just use. The only negative thing I can say is that the monty moles don't blend very well with the grass on the wall in the 3d one .. granted, that's pretty trivial and can slide as fixing that is probably too much work and too little gain. The 3d one is probably my next favorite after that sand one, speaking of which.
@Imamelia:The palete on the pseudo 3D tileset was made by me a year or so ago.Iwasn't to good at palettes back then. The palette on the last one was made using colors from a photograf, out of pure curiosity on how it would look.
Other than that thanks for the positive coments!
@Zero-X:On the pseudo 3D tileset, those where meant to be rocks, but since they looked like monty-mole holes I left them.If they are indeed bad , I will remove them.

Over all I'm really glad everyone likes my work, makes me happy!

Thanks again for the positive feedback!

I've seen some of those before, and i must say that i liked them all, some may use of a better palette, but they are really nice regardless.
Vanilla remasterd:
For a reskin of the original tileset from SMW, it's simple, yet it works the way it should. I liked the dirty texture and the grass, the other objects are well made as well. But i found the midpoint bar to be rather odd.

Pseudo 3D grassy cliffs:
A really neat set here, i'm liking how it is looking like, but it is too "Square-ish". If you could round it a bit more on the edges, it would turn into a fine piece.

I'll comment the other ones when i get the time, must leave now.

@Ludus: I am very glad you like it!
As for the midway bar, maybe its because its got water in it? it's probably because of the bad compresion and the goal tape itself(wich I changed so that there's no more cut-off when you get it), as other than that it is identical to the goal post.
As for the pseudo 3D tileset, I made it long time ago, so I will probably not change it, but I'll keep what you said in consideration in future projects.

I love these! I especially like the remastered vanilla set, which is a breath of fresh air into the oft-used SMW graphics. I also love the pseudo-3D set, those are always fun when done well, and I actually think the square edges make it unique, kinda!

As for the sand and forest sets, I like 'em as well, especially the texture in the sand/grass. And I love the style of the airship set, it looks great!

All in all, good job! I'll be downloading these later.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

The Airship ZIP does not contain the actual airship GFX, just the clouds/palette you used in the screen.

I've got to say, these are pretty nice (I won't use them as I prefer to draw my own if possible), but nonetheless, they're great.

I rememeber attempting psuedo 3D graphics, I failed at it.

Fixed, thanks for noticing!

@TOS: Glad you like it too! Also, just as you said, making pseudo 3D is a pain: the better perspective you try to use to worse it looks/the harder it is to palette...

Oops, looks like we forgot something else (me mention, you add). Your Airship tileset lacks a Map16. Granted, people can do that themselves, but that would be time consuming.

Nice job!
I really like the vanilla remastered one.
I think we'll be seeing that in a lot of hacks soon.
I'm filling this space with useless info.
Well, I'm going to give my honest opinion. I do hope no one gets offended by what I'm going to say. I am a critic of everything, and I tried not to unleash my full force of absolute hatred on you by giving minor and easy to fix complaints with some help on how to fix them. Then again, I'm also terribly bad at giving advice.

Vanilla Remastered: It's very good, fandango. Only problem I have is with the arches, nothing else.

Pseudo 3D: I'm going to be honest in saying that it came out sub-par. The vertical logs look like they were done simply to get it over with, the flowers are plain and don't stand out enough to be appreciated, the rocks in the wall look plain ugly and rushed, as do the lichen growing on the wall. The waterfall is fairly boring, I recommend you increase the size of the white stuff that happens when the water in a waterfall crashes to the surface of the water. You also could have done with a better palette.

Sand FG: Nothing to complain about except the arches once again. There's also the rocks under the sand dunes in the background, they look too out of place, and a little ugly, perhaps making them bigger might help. Other than that, it's fine.

Thick Grass FG: Very good. The tree could use a little curve at the bottom to signify the conical shape of it. The logs also have a thick black outline which contrasts sharply to the green grass, I recommend using dark green instead of a black outline at the bottom, and letting some of the green from the grass "interfere" with the outline at the bottom, to make it blend with grass better. I have no clue if interfere is the right term.

Airship and BG: I find this one to be a little too plain and simple for my tastes. The shading could use some definite work. The background is also just, to put it blunt, boring.

Again, I hope not to offend, but to offer help. Without proper criticism, art can never improve. However, one cannot be so rude as to judge too strictly or cruelly, which is something I'm trying to do.

I have no clue if anything I said made any sense.
