The Big Boo's Legion 2 (project title) - NEW video and screenshots!

Hello there and welcome to my C3 thread! Well, here's my hack again, after (another) long-long break. I'm not saying I worked on it a lot (unfortunately), but there's plenty of new stuff.

Some changes I made:
- using RPG Hacker's VWF Dialogues patch instead of Romi's VWF Tool (the story plays a big part in the hack, so it's very important)
- using AddmusicM instead of Romi's/HuFlungDu's Addmusic (brr samples yeeah)
- using Tessera instead of Romi's Spritetool (more sprite variations and stuff, though a bit laggy [yet])
- changed a bunch of global graphics (Yoshi coin, blocks etc.)
- using custom SFX for Yoshi coin, midway point and some more

So you can imagine that all of these porting, changing took a bit of time (converting all the ports to AMM-format, all the sprites to Tessera-format etc.).
But I've also had time to make a completely new level!

The plot:
Mario has to travel through the desert, but the only way is taking the train. The only problem is, bandits have blocked down the railway, so only people with special permission are able to travel. Luckily, Mario has already got the password when the video starts (you'll have to get it in the level before).
I hope you'll like it.

Aaaand here are the screenshots:

New in the oasis level: bouncing on water springs! (disregard the status bar here)

Lots of stuff in Mario's House (some palettes might change).

Mario likes his fridge for sure.

And his couch, too!

Such a beautiful view from here...

Can't we do anything against the bandits?

Sounds like fun!

Totally understandable.

Well, that explains why is he walking around on the table.

A rest? Just what I needed!

What might this dark place be..?

Creepy cave...

That eye is coming at me!

Waaah! A moving skull!

I don't really like the look of this...

When will this nightmare finally end?

A bonus: an animated version of this picture I've already shown in the Screenshots & Videos thread. Maybe not the very best rain effect, but it looks good in my opinion.

Well, that's it. I know it's not that much, considering I haven't shown anything in a long time, but I hope I'll be able to pick up this project again, and work more efficently on it.

Hope you like the thread, and don't forget to comment, constructive criticism, compliments, all are welcome!
I expected a release or at least a demo, but this looks just as fancy.

Hadron those screenshots are absolutely amazing. I'm really loving them!

Every level is unique and looks cool, and the levels seem pretty nicely designed too! I'm loving your style, man. Keep it up! :D
I saw the train video this morning and was thoroughly impressed. Your work has continually proven to be relatively top-tier in terms of both your level design and your aesthetics.

Keep up the great work.
Interesting concept and level. This would make quite the interesting hack. Excellent job

This looks fantastic, Hadron! This hack definitely looks like one of the more unique SMW hacks I've seen. By the looks of it there's hardly a trace of the original SMW left. The level design seems intersting too. Good work so far! #w{=D}Free counters!

I think it looks good too.

Overall, I do like the feel that the aesthetics of this hack has been giving off. Sounds like an interesting and well done plot as well. The story is something that is important to me and it seems like it is in this hack so that's a big plus with me. Perhaps because I'm a story nut/RPG crazy and that's why. Anyways, I wish you luck in further developments! Keep it up!

Did you get those graphics from frogatto.
Good job, Hadron! I like what you've shown so far. I agree that the rain effect is pretty good, but what I really enjoy is that place with the undead enemies. Such nice palettes! I also have to comment on the text boxes; no idea how you're doing that, but it looks great!

And about the train level: while I have not watched the entire video, the level's aesthetics look awesome. I like the wooden boxes and all the other details you added to the train, but I especially like how the background moves. Those cacti are crazy!

Anyway, you are definitely doing a nice job. Keep it up!
Thanks everyone for the comments! #w{=D}

@Ripperon-X: unfortunately, a new demo is nowhere near. While I would have enough new stuff to show, a lot of things are not done yet even for a demo (it wasn't by accident that I didn't show the OW in the video).

@S.N.N.: it was about time you commented on this hack :P Just kidding, but thanks! The train video is the main new thing here so I'm glad you watched it through.

@Scrydan: thanks Derek! ;) I'm glad you noticed the important story factor in the hack, I'm indeed "writing" a heavily detailed story for the hack with at least 3 villages, many NPCs and countless messages.

@crith: yep. And I need to mention that ripping directly from sprite sheets was a pain in the butt.

@Thundahack: wow, thanks for this great long comment. The text boxes were done with RPG Hacker's VWF Dialogues patch, it's an excellent and fun-to-use patch with countless possibilities. Also, I'm glad you liked the dark mountain, it's one of my latest levels.
Cool I've been playing frogatto for two days and its my favorite game love to see its graphics in an smw rom.
Hadron, this looks amazing! Especially the Western Railroad! It is both very creative and excellently designed, and the guard with the password is a clever touch! Also, the HDMA scrolling really brings the level to life and adds to the immersion factor significantly.

As for the mountain/night level, it looks like a very interesting stage, and the GFX you used for the enemies really ties it together. The theme is perfect for the hack, and I'm guessing it is one of the later stages in the game.
By the way, I really like the Skyrim reference with the little girl asking Mario to play tag :P

Overall, this looks incredible, and your work always impresses me! Keep up the excellent work!
Pretty neat looking hack. I really liked the train level.
i just lurk sometimes
I have to agree with SNN, you've improved ten fold on you skills. I can't wait for more on this project!

Those screenshots look really appealing, and the use of the dialogues in the train level is impressive (at least for someone who's completely clueless about ASM like me).

I just have a little issue with the train level though, I feels it's lacking some action. I'm not saying it doesn't have any action, but I felt it was too little for a level of that kind; maybe you should add a buller or a parachute goomba/bomb generator at some point, or maybe having some auto-scroll could help as well.
I can see why this was in the C3 Releases of the Day, EVERYTHING is impressive! The train level is amazing! I love the ExGFX and the fast scrolling background. It makes it feel like that you are on a train. The music is a PERFECT fit. You also made excellent use of the VWF Dialogues. Overall, this hack is freaking INCREDIBLE! I look forward to seeing more of it. #w{=D}
I'm actually impressed enough to comment! (that never happens :D).

I absolutely loved the train level. The guard at the beginning with the password was a neat touch that I don't know if I've seen done before. I loved the entire feel of the level and the graphics. Reminded me of a more advanced version of the train level in Wario Land, and more impressive in my mind. The other screenshots looked just as awesome and I really can't wait for to play this hack!
you know you've put so much time and effort into this thing it's almost a shame it's not close to being finished! lol, but that's okay because we have these awesome previews to keep us updated. the hack really takes on the likeness of an action rpg mixed with a platformer. unlike most people with the VWF tool you actually get good range out of it to flesh out the story in a genuinely crafted manner. i applaud your skills sir, bravo.

Aaaaaaa, I was ripping those Frogatto graphics! D:
these

Eh, oh well. Very nice looking hack, as well. Look forward to playing it!
