Not sure what book series to read

I'm not sure what book series to get into next. I have finished the final book of Warrior Cats, The Last Hope. Well, there is going to be another arc after this, but it's a prequel. Rereading the series just won't be quite the same.
To give you an idea of what I like, some kind of adventure story, preferably with animals as the main cast instead of humans. I've grown somewhat attached to stories about animals. Something similar to the above mentioned Warrior Cats, Seekers, Watership Down, and Plague Dogs, but not those. I've read/watched those. Something with most or all of the following elements: emotional drama, plot twists, cliff hangers, humans are evil, and a serious tone overall.
Do you think I would enjoy Guardians of Gahool (or however you spell that) the one with the owls? You can suggest something else if you want.
If you're looking for a good animal-based book, I would recommend the Redwall series. It is made for a bit younger audiences, but it is still a good read. The books can be read in any order, since the timeline does not follow the order of the books.

The Guardians of Gahool is also a good series; I don't really have too much to say about it, and I think you get the basic concept.

As for non-animal books, I have quite a few of those to recommend. I'll give you my favorite two for now, but if you need more, just ask.

The Name of the Wind is one of my favorite novels of all time. It has everything on your list, except for the 'humans are evil' thing.

Another one of my favorite novels is Spud. It probably isn't what you're looking for, and it wasn't what I usually enjoy either. However, I quickly discovered that it is one of the most hilarious books that I've ever read. It is told in the style of journal entries from a kid who goes to a boarding school in South Africa in the 1980's. It sounds kind of boring, but as I said, it's freaking hilarious.

Since you seem to be a pony fan, I suggest reading some of the Conversion Bureau fanfics, especially the ones by Chatoyance(you might want to read the introduction and overview in the above document first though)
Also I suggest starting with The Conversion Bureau: Euphrosyne Unchained, or perhaps Conversion Bureau: Pride
Would animorphs count as animal books? Not sure but still great series if you want to check it out.

I've read some of the Animorphs books, and I liked it, but I'm not really in the mood for that particular series. Actually I don't think even being about animals is necessarily required. I'm kinda in the mood for some kind of adventure series, maybe with some kind of fantasy or supernatural elements (not too much. One thing I didn't like about the Omen of the Stars arc in Warriors was the whole 'afterlife is so involved that the dead cat spirits might as well be alive too, so the deaths weren't as sad as they should have been.') I guess some sci fi couldn't hurt as well. It's hard to explain exactly what I'm looking for, so sorry if I seem a little picky.

Does it mean the books are only available in the UK? Sorry, I do not live anywhere near the UK. I was kinda hoping for a book I could find at the library, but it couldn't hurt to check.
I had been thinking about maybe Guardians of Gahool, but I might have to read the blurb to see if I'm interested. How kid (un)friendly is that?
Have you read the Silverwing books? Those are about bats, and I remember really liking them when I was younger.

I have not. I might want to read a blurb or something to see if I want to get into that. I do like bats.

Well I remember liking them, and they were reasonably serious and adventure-ish iirc. They read them in Canadian elementary schools, I guess they aren't that big outside of Canada but it's something all my friends read when we were younger. Not good at blurbing but just get the first one (Silverwing) from the library, it's not like it'll cost you anything if you don't like it.

I was actually thinking of it anyway. I don't go to bookstores much, and the library is within walking distance.
Crap, I just checked and there's only one copy and it's out. Guess I'll have to wait for them to take their sweet time to return it, but I just placed a request for it anyway.
Check the ORIGINAL Jungle Book series (not the Disney ones)

Isn't Rikki Tikki Tavi part of that? I remember watching the animation of that. I think I actually have that somewhere. If not, the library is the literary equivalent of duct tape.

Well, looks like Silverwing is finally in the shipped status, but after I finish it, I'm thinking about reading 'The Wind Up Girl' next. Can't believe I haven't touched that book in a long while. I kinda want to tho (not about animals. I think it has something to do with genetically altered food and a crapsack world.)
