In order to keep 'conflicts' (multiple spritetools for example) to a minimum, I came up with a bunch of guidelines I encourage you to follow.
The ROM we will be working with is mainly the headerless "Super Mario All-Stars (U) [!].sfc" ROM. We're not hacking Super Mario All-Stars + World here.
We understand that you'll get the urge to create patches with the information present in this forum. We understand that and we're not opposing it. Feel free to. However, please keep in mind that your patch might not be compatible with SWR's level editor (in progress) so it might need updating in the future. Other than that, unleash your creativity!
If you want to build 'significant', major patches & tools for SMAS, such as sprite inserters, block inserters, etc., please discuss this with the entire community first by making a thread and listening to the community's wishes. We don't want this to happen, do we?
Of course your creations must work with bsnes or on a real SNES so people may enjoy the hacks on a real SNES.
The purpose of these guidelines are that we don't want competition and conflicts on the SMAS patch and tool development scenes, which results in multiple versions of resources with the same purpose as a result (exhibit: SMW addmusic 4.05 & addmusic M).
If you have any suggestions and/or feedback, or just want to discuss these guidelines, feel free to post.
