Hi everyone.
We're currently looking for a new staff member to look after one key feature on the site: our YouTube channel. For quite some time now, our channel has been fairly dead in terms of updates, and we'd like to revive it - for good. The kind of stuff we're looking to include on it is:
-Highlighting important events going on around the site (contests, stuff about SMWCP2, events, whatever).
-Periodically showing off stuff from the music or graphics section (basically, "resource show-offs"). We've already somewhat started this with the "SMWC's Latest Hits" videos on the channel, so continuing that would be fine.
-Hacking tutorials would be nice to see as well. Dotsarecool/Kristian had started these when they handled the channel, but they didn't last too long unfortunately.
-Anything else you can think of that might be worth noting.
If this interests you, then please do the following:
1. Give a few reasons why you think this would be something you'd want to do, and why you'd be right for the job.
2. Post a short video (about a minute) of you discussing something random about the site (eg. some random port, some random graphics, how lovely the site is, etc). Basically, we just want to hear you speak. You do not have to show your face on-camera if you're uncomfortable with that, but we would like to hear your voice.
We'll keep this thread open until we get a fair number of people showing interest, and then we'll decide who would be the best fit.

I feel that the person that wishes to do this shouldn't have it be about themselves.
By this I mean that the person in charge should allow videos that other users have made into the channel. I think having a good LP'er that's frequently on the site could do their LP of the contests entries for future contests, and people that are able to make Video tutorials should also be allowed to have those videos on the site's YT page as well.
I guess i'm thinking of a Machinima-type of channel, though this person is in charge of what is allowed on the page (simply allowing everything wouldn't be a good idea), and they should also be one of the people contributing to the channel as well.

What exactly should you be showing off in the video? The page with the graphics on it? Or a level using the graphics?
I know I'm probably not going to get anywhere far in this, but I'd just like to know.

EDIT 2: I just realized that I need to give reasons why I want to do this.
1. I really want to give back to a community that I has given so much to me. This place is full of awesome people and awesome hacks that knowing I'm helping this place getting recognition would make me really happy.
2. I have had some experience in video making and video editing before. I could certainly whip some quality stuff up for the channel.
3. I've got a lot of free time on my hands, so I would be able to do videos consistently, although due to me entering Junior Cert year this year, a lot of it would probably have to be done in advance (I don't know if this will be a problem though.)

You can show off whatever you want really. The purpose of the video is to make sure the person behind the computer has both charisma and a voice that won't make banshees cry.

Is the video restricted to a minute? It might just be when I'm LPing and there's always something to talk about but I find that I tend to go on a bit and could probably fill 5 minutes no problem.

Are there any specific aspects in the romhacking tutorials that are especially requested or could I just make tutorials and tips on how to get to where I am in romhacking today (such as Lunar Magic Tutorials and how to prepare for Let's Plays of romhacks)?
I'm interested in trying to make tutorial videos.

I hate my own voice, it sounds rather off. I'm still going through puberty myself so I don't know if it's dark enough to sound mature or not so I might give it a try when I'm alone for a minute or two >_>

oh jeez i really wanna do this because i have lots of video production experience. but before i give my reasons/demo video i would like to know how often you would like a video to be posted to the channel? thank you.

Very nice to see this taken into consideration at last! I would actually like to try this possition out, but I think it would been kinda hard to do alone. First of all, I'm not that very updated on everything on the site at all times. Also, I'm not that good in speaking english, I just understands it very well. My voice is kinda deep and depressing at times, not very over excited like. Also, I got no good video editing programs on my computer/ my computer has a hard time running Abode premiere etc.
I don't know, I could probably been a partner of some sort, thats all I can think of. I just really hope this gets up running as soon as possible, its really a more interesting way to get info about the site and something to look forward to.

I know when were discussing this, we were thinking weekly updates with some sort of content would be nice. Anything from hack reviews to Nintendo news in general.
If this is done right, this could open up a lot of possibilities for us in the future.

If anything I'd like to see Let's Moderates the most again. Those were cool, and I missed doing those.
I would do this but I don't keep up with anything here whatsoever so yep.

I'll take a shot at this, I basically have Saturdays and Sundays free, so I can do a lot, maybe upload a video every week or so???
Eitherway, It'll help me feel useful to the site. I'll a video of my voice out at maybe Monday because of the fact I have no internet access during the weekends.

Same here except I have wireless/full access everyday and it won't be Monday when it's done.
I'm on Summer but in July when I leave for my mothers I'll be gone a month so I don't know if I will be accepted, if not, I could upload or help with it every weekend.

Interesting. But I'm just going to be honest with myself and state that I'm not looking to get into that position.
I've gotten quite a few comments about people liking my voice in the past, but I honestly do not consider myself to be enough of a movie expert to seriously consider such a position. I'm quite certain there are many candidates with a better grasp on movie recording and editing than myself. So it's back to just waiting to see if I ever get thrown any positions in the future (which given my on/off activity, will be unlikely).

I'm sorry but is anyone finding it weird that people new to the site want to be the ones that talk about the site? Wouldn't it make sense to have someone who's been here for awhile. I'm sure fine with the person in charge allowing them to have videos on the channel, but still...
