I always thought Japan was a pretty neat place, but after learning a bit more about the place from people who have visited and lived there, I'm honestly not too fond of their culture. I've heard Japan is pretty xenophobic, so someone like me would definitely not be able to fit in. Not to mention I'm not a huge fan of Japanese food and how daily life seems to work there doesn't seem like my cup of tea. Granted, a lot of my opinion of Japan are pre-conceived notions, coming from pretty limited knowledge and possibly sketchy sources.

Though I wouldn't want to live there, I guess Japanese would be cool to pick up as a language. Anime really isn't my thing, but I can't say I hate it--especially after giving some a chance and watching a few shows with some buddies. Mainly, I've gotta say they export some great video games, I would be willing to learn Japanese just so I could play a lot of the games that the west has missed out on, and will continue to miss (I'm looking at you Capcom). I'm also a pretty big fan of Visual Novels, and I'm not able to play a lot of them without knowledge of Japanese. I honestly can't stand J-Pop and a lot of other Japanese music, however, so there's that.

Overall, I'm not a fan of Japanese society, but nobody can deny that Japan has been oozing with creativity and potential that has really been deeply rooted in its culture. Coupled with the immense work ethic people there tend to have--as is the case with a lot of Asian countries--its really no surprise that a lot of people admire Japan. It sometimes seems to me as if Japan is trying too hard to preserve this culture and avoid outside influence outside of trade, however, which is the main thing that irks me about the place. I don't mean to generalize, but with that sort of mentality, it's hard for any country to progress.

You should visit Italy sometimes... good luck :E
Xenophobia's the norm. Here in AMERICUH we've got racism/immigration issues/etc but it's comparatively tame.

Not that it excuses anything of course.
I am pretty much neutral on the matter. Japanese (or Asian culture in general) is not something I'm very much "attracted" to, but I don't hate it either.

Having that said, I do plan on going on a trip to South Korea next year, so I might learn more about the culture in that area (sure, not the same as Japan but it's a similar thing). Actually, learning more about East Asian culture is the sole reason I really want to take that trip. We'll see how that goes.

So yeah, I'm not "Japanophile" or anything like that. Part of the reason may be that I'm not exposed to the culture much at all. I think Americans in general have a higher chance to be exposed to Japanese culture because their connection to Japanese culture is simply tighter. (What with the after-effects of WWII)
(I always figured something like this would be considered a Japandroid.)

I'm pretty impartial to Japanese culture, aside from their crazy t.v. shows which I have really enjoyed.

Also their constant need to impress the world by breaking cool records (like climbing stairs on your head) is very enjoyable to follow.
Japan is a good country, yes. But i don't really call myself a Japanophile although i do get excited when Japanese people join on MK7. I really don't know what i like about Japan, maybe i just like people from different countries.

I'm actually trying to find out if i have some Japanese ancestery.
I despise Japanophiles who go crazy with their totally kawaii weeaboo stuff. I like Japan as a country, especially from an architectural standpoint and I'm visiting it with friends at the end of the year. The night life looks amazing, the street markets and other things are also interesting.

I feel that too much of their culture has leaked and has been absorbed into western society, where it has become a bastardised version.
I enjoy good anime and listen to some good Vocaloid songs occasionally, and am trying to learn Japanese as well, but I wouldn’t consider myself a Japanophile, as I do not immediately become obsessed over something just because it happens to come from Japan.
I've been interested in that culture as well as others since I was small, but that doesn't, by ANY means automatically make me a "Japanophile"... *shudder*

Hey. Don't hate, not everyone likes or loves the same things. :)
I assume that it's quite common for internet nerds like ourselves to go through a "Japanophile" phase... I, however, never went through such a phase. The closest I ever came was back in the summer of 2007, when Cartoon Network was airing an all-day Naruto marathon starting at the first episode. I quickly lost interest after the bridge arc, though. That being said, I do appreciate Japanese culture for its competitiveness, which correlates with better achievement and dedication; compare Brutal Mario with any American hack from 2006. If I had a lifespan of 800 years or more, I'd probably dedicate a few of those years to learning Japanese. From what I've heard, it's needlessly complex (3 different writing systems, one of which has thousands of characters borrowed from archaic Chinese, all of which require a specific order of up to 29 strokes.) but fun and rewarding at the same time.
Does Chinesophile count?

I've always been a bit of an Orientalist however, mostly Chinese with their interesting religious and philosophical concepts (even though I'm neither Chinese nor religious). I've been spending a good chunk of my time reading through a history of Taoism. I guess in a way it comes from the interest in how artistic and cultured China used to be before the Industrial Revolution, and to me its interesting that a country considered to be so technological and strict had such an imaginative and poetic story behind it all.

Although I don't give a shit about Manga.

Well,I'm Japanese.
But the things I like are not very "Japanese"
Yes,sounded weird but...
I don't watch animes or read mangas.
I eat some Japanese food.
But I naturally eat,Natural things,Lettuce,Carrots,Mushrooms(Ironic huh?),Potatoes(not fried),etc.
I play Japanese games.
I make drawings, but that doesn't count as something only Japanese people do.
I like Heavy Metal and VGM.
Heavy Metal isn't from Japan.
...
I don't watch TV...so this means I don't watch Japanese TV shows.
My TV is only used to play games.
I actually never heard of "Japanophilia"
But...I don't know if i'm a good example that Japanese people are not what people think they are(Bunch of weird persons watching anime,etc.).
Because I consider myself,a lonely, and shy person and I don't know many persons.
Actually what people think and say is what makes me sad#smw{T_T}
I'm not a Japanophile. I watch some anime, play a lot of video games, and listen to some Japanese music, but my favourites of all those forms of media tend to be sort of fringe (especially the music), and some parts of their culture are just a massive turn-off for me. What bugs me the most is how much they value conformity. I value my individuality, and I've had bad experiences with being forced to conform to social norms. So yeah, despite enjoying a lot of media from Japan, I wouldn't want to live there.
I wouldn't really consider myself to be a japanophile (though I am a maeusophile, which is a jump in a completely different direction), I don't really like japanese food, HOWEVER I do enjoy a good anime (japanese only, with english subtitles- the english dubs usually suck and I personally in most instances like the original voices better) and I do like a lot of japanese works or things that are japanese in origin. Such examples would be Disgaea (best game series ever. Yes, even better than Touhou.), and the aforementioned danmaku game.

I also like a lot of japanese songs, including a particularly ridiculous one from a series known for being ridiculous. Although as the top comment says, this is Disgaea. Fuck logic. (Actually, fuck that, this is japan, fuck logic.)

I'm also a disasterphobe, so I wouldn't survive in Japan. (I'd probably panic if I felt any sort of shaking that would imply an earthquake. And I'd probably also panic when the tide goes out in fear of a tsunami.)
I actually dont loike most japanese culture at all. Except for nintendo stuff, thats pretty alright, isnt it.
Not much of a japanophile. I have a waifu and all, but if there weren't my Internet friends, I feel I'd not have one. I mostly wear anime avatars because I find they cute (the one I'm on right now is because of a tribute chain though), but I'm not really addicted to anime (actually, to TV in general).

I don't know much stuff from Japan other than anime, Nintendo and food, to be honest.
I can just say that I love Japan and its stuff. From its culture, their stuffs, up to their language.

Yes, their language is the most interesting one that I need to learn, because it can help you understand more of their stuffs. Also their stuffs, this includes anime, manga, some figures, and more... It's probably a collection in case you have a habit of it. And their culture, from their foods, up to their buildings. It's awesome, and a place that I must visit sometime.

Why I'm interested on learning Japanese is because of that I have a relative that lives in there. So yes, I'm a bit of a Japanophile.
