The idea of a roleplaying/story-based forum (you know, the kind where you take on the role of other characters who aren't you) came up a few years ago. Given how so many forums actually have it, it seemed like a good idea. It was soon shot down on the grounds that a lot of people who could be considered "immature" would go in there and ruin it for everyone. Recently, the idea was brought up again .. only this time, we decided it might be best if only those who were seriously interested in such a forum were allowed to post there via an approval system. Those who are genuinely interested in writing and characterization would find a nice niche in a forum like that.

That being said, I'd like to use this as a chance for people to express their interest in such a forum. If I see that enough people want something like this, then I'll go ahead and create it. If not, then so be it.

Feel free to ask any questions or discuss anything about the idea here as well.
Scrydan told me about this earlier today. I have to say I'm all for this idea. It sounds like a good place for users to relax and just have fun with role playing. As long as there's an approval system, I think this is a good idea.
I've always thought such kind of forums were really cool ideas if they are pulled off right. I'm all for it.
I personally don't RP but I've read some RPs before by others and some of them turn out great. Even if a person isn't an active RPer, it could spark some inspiration for plots in hacks and such.
I'd be interested. I've tried to spark some story-telling games in the past in Forum Games, but most of them died off due to lack of participation. This would be a welcome addition to the forums :)
Being in.
Nah.

All it leads to is writer's block and people going "pls update nao" and shit like that. I'll pass.
this will only amount to another inactive form in two to three months. not really worth it.
I'd say go for it. I've never RP but I might be interested in writing a thing or two. It'd be nice to see what people could come up with.

I brought up the idea of it being group only so people who are actually interested can be here and we can easily know who is still interested and whatnot.

I have two threads planned and I have ideas to keep them quite busy if all goes well. If not, I got other places as well. Heh. I'm hoping some people will be interested and such.
Two threads and a group don't make a subforum.

These kind of things need constant attention and should be made for all smwc users, not a select group. At least, that's what your post seemed to imply.

Edit: Just reread the first post and noticed it was supposed to be approval-only. I guess it could work, but I'd be surprised if users could be interested for that long of a time. I won't be interested but if you can get enough people who can get into RPing for months, then I guess it wouldn't be such a bad idea.

The problem with it being available to all users is the fact that certain people will abuse it. As such, it's best to make it only accessible to the more responsible SMWC users.
..I do agree there should be more than 2 threads though. At least allow users to create their own RP games.
The approval system -should- safely filter out a lot of the users who aren't serious about it, hence why it was suggested in the first place. Worst case scenario, if it ends up going inactive and/or being a trainwreck, the forum could just be locked.

You are obviously missing the point. Other members should be posting threads too. The idea is that it starts ideas for others to have their own adventures to place their characters in. Some threads will be different. Some may be more wacky than others and will allow for anything to happen except for gmode and other such stuff.

Threads that would be created obviously include:
RP Forum Rules
RP Characters (each member would post all the characters and some backstory here)

And two other thread that I have planned. Others have their own worlds for others to explore so most likely they will create threads too if they truly wanted.

Each new thread should have some format and clearly tell what is and isn't allowed in certain threads so that people know what to expect. If a user has a "world" that no one knows, they should give some backstory as to what kind of people are there and such.

I could give an example of what I mean as well.
Motion to ban KZ from such a forum.
I, for one, would love to have an RP forum. I like to occasionally RP, and doing it in a community that I like a lot would be nice.

My exact thoughts about this.
I for one think this is a excellent idea. RPs in the Forum Games tend to not garner as much attention as the others (the exclusion being Amalgamation or whatever it's called). I feel this is a great place for people to show their story creating skills, for there is no other thread like that.
The approval system is also a nice touch. We wouldn't want users such as NICK66 to make stupid comments.
What a great idea! I'd love to see this thing happen!

My only concern- an approval system would over filter and make the forum inactive due to people not being "good enough" to get in. I've seen that type of scenario happen before.
Yeah I don't like the approval system. If someone goes in and trolls, just ban their ass (maybe for that one forum only). It's not like Reality Corner has much issue with immaturity, and that requires a hell of a lot higher respect and consideration for others than a roleplaying forum would.
