I'm afraid I'll have to drop out. If it were only a few hours later it'd be fine, but I can't join until around 5:30 EST... unless the games could be delayed just for me, which I highly doubt, I can't participate...
Well that's a shame. Still if anyone else wants that spot, jump for it now. I won't be around much of the day but I'll keep an eye out on my phone.
If it's not taken yet I'll be free and this seems like it'd be fun to join in
Well consider yourself in. Just send Disco your user name so he can whitelist you and we'll see you later
Are all places reserved for the game? Crap, I wanted to join... :/
As a precaution, I have to warn everyone that at the very most, I'm going to be 10-15 minutes late.
I'm ok with waiting around. It will probably take 15 minutes to get set up anyway.
So... who won?
I'm curious too. I didn't even have time to spectate the arena.

EDIT: Will there be a second round of Survival Games? It's fun. :P

First round didn't even last more than a minute, second one people died of lag, then we did the walls map, in which only 2 people didn't have lag caused by the clocks, then we did the pirate royal, from which nothing was left of the ships, then finally cake defense, which was just chaotic.
Aparantly someone won on the walls map, but I cant remember at the moment who( he was of the 2-3 people without going without lag).
Its funny how the seriouser the game was, the more lag there was (end of second round and walls map).
Thought I have to say, it was lots of fun, and if we did this again(no need for prizes ¬¬), I'll participate again.
I didn't hear much of lag from other people actually, and I doubt I was the only lagless person, considering I had pretty good fights with a bunch of people.
Losoall won the Walls by the way.

But yeah we should do this again sometime.
So wait, the WHOLE event included everything beyond the second round? Darn, too bad my internet sucked after the second round so I couldn't continue :<. Honestly I didn't do well at all (second dead #ab{;_;}), mostly cause I was trying to kill somebody with arrows, nearly got them when I went to melee, but leod came be-hind me and got me. #ab{x_x} So if they happens again, I know just to grab some crap, and run away from everybody, and *hopefully* get an easy kill and some good stuff.

Also, I didn't get any lag beyond recording with Fraps (I'll get the footage sent away as soon as possible).

Sadly I couldn't participate after the initial first/second round but I do have video of it from my POV though not sure if MVS wants it or not.
I'm still debating myself to be honest.

Really, I think many of us can agree that it was a complete disaster. The bulk of the actual game was pretty good but there were some glaring issues here and I want to briefly address them.

Firstly, our plugins failed to work. This completely got rid of pretty much all our anti-rulebreaking tools and the entire game basically had to be played on merit.

This is where the issues began to pop up. We had many issues with players breaking the rules. Just to clarify, when we launched the server early, it was so players could have a lag test. Not so they could start looting the chests and griefing the spawn. It got to the extent that we had to relaunch the server 3 times and bedrock the center chests. Even then we had issues with players breaking out of their spawn cages.

It didn't really help that the map didn't have players spawn in a controlled area where they couldn't go running around the map but that's a totally seperate issue.

Who's to blame for this? Well I'd pin it down to both hosts and players. After we announced our plugins were not working, we were hoping people would be mature enough to not out-right grief or loot the chests after we repeatedly told them not to. However if we had properly tested the plugins before loading the whitelist, we wouldn't of had this issue to begin with.

The next issue I want to address falls pretty much down to the hosts. We decided to mix things up a bit, we'd be allowed to randomly spawn mobs...

Let me clarify, when I said mobs, I meant maybe a couple of skeletons, a blaze or a few zombies. I did NOT mean 50 ocelots and a gaggle of dried up squids. I also said mobs, not pouring lava or setting off buttloads of TNT near a player especially after I said we'd stop picking on them.

Let me clarify, I'm not trying to seems like the saint in all this. Although I didn't go that crazy with spawning, I still feel I should've done more to prevent this.

We very generously decided to put players into creative mode so they could spectate afterwards. I'm not 100% sure if any players decided to interfere with the games using creative however from what I understand, a few may have. Needless to say if we do this again, I'll personally be objecting to spectators.

----------

So where do we go from here?

Well I'm still debating whether I'd like this footage to go up on SMWC's YouTube channel given the nightmare it ended up being and will probably let Pikerchu ultimately make the choice. I'll be talking to him and Disco at some point later.

I WOULD like to host another round of games at some point but that probably won't be for a while as I'd like to wait for a new map to be released plus there would be a lot more planning behind it to make sure people don't ruin the fun.

To clarify, nobody outright won the survival games. As I understand there were a few players left alive before the server was closed.

We did however go on to do a few more maps including The Walls. I agreed to give the prize of the steam game to the winner of this.

The winner was Syntax Errors (Losoall) and I'll be getting that sorted out soon.

----------

As of now I want to hear feedback from you guys. What do you think should've been worked on, what differences would you like to see next time?
Honestly, I think there is only three things to change:

- No interfering in the games (whether it be mobs, lava, or GIANT TNT EXPLOSION (I'm seriously glad that didn't happen #ab{o_o}))

- Make sure the plugins work

- Ban leod Give some tips for newbies to this, I guess? Honestly, I thought I was doing well... until I missed my target, and leod came and killed me. I mean, not to sound like I'm pitying myself (and nor to sound like I think I'm MLG pro), but I'm actually pretty good in normal Minecraft, and I thought the whole thing would be simply getting a bow, and killing the first player I see, looting his/her stuff and then going onto the next target. It wasn't.

There's just one thing that I'd like to throw out there. A few months ago, it was a common thing for people from the #minecraft IRC channel (myself, Disco, Losoall, Riolu180, Balrog, Ecthel, Devann, etc) to play various types of PVP maps each evening. However, this died out a while ago, and I have been unable to get it started up again. The most common types of maps that we played were "Race for the Wool" maps, an unorthodox type of PVP map that you can see being played here, and "Capture the Wool" maps, which are basically Minecraft capture the flag.

Here's my question: would anybody who participated in this event be interested in regularly playing PVP maps?

Also, on a completely unrelated note, it would also be nice if more people went on the caffie minecraft servers. We currently have both a normal survival server and a tekkit survival server, as well as a flatland creative server.
@MVS:
-Thing is, theres always someone with 0 pacience who starts messing about, then others join in, so as to not be in a disadvantage or watever, and on and on...
How to fix this? Being more stern, an example: set spawn at a bedrock cage, then teleport people to the starting areas.
-Shure, let the footage go up, we'll have some laughs out of it.
-As for map, the walss 2 map would work as long as the teams were clear and we didn't use the actuall clocks, but rather a host with a stop watch/checking the time, then activating the redstone, so as to avoid lag...

@BMM:
-If the hosts interfere, it should be evenly on all players and not exagerated(like enabling/disabling mobs)
-For tips/help on PvP, watch videos on youtube, they tend to help.

@eXcavator:
I would connect to the servers, thing is, I'm not premium.

@Everyone:

How about if 4-5 of us made ourselves a PvP map? It dosen't have to be complicated, and tools like worldedit speed things up alot.
All we would have to build is something between 50x50 blocks to 20x20 blocks, And to make things fair(and easier to make) simetrical arenas can be made by copy-pasting.
This is just an idea, I sugest it since it would allow the ones who like creating in minecraft to enjoy themselves allong with others who just enjoy bashing the shi* out of others.
Actually, making either a survival map or an adventure map would be good. It would take a bit though, and the only way all of us could make it together would to be going onto a server and stuff. Still though, nice idea.

- BlackMageMario
It would buy time to set up plugins, and not all of us are needed. Infact, the less people working on it the more people to enjoy the new map, and not be sick of it/know it of memory.
I have to agree with a lot of the above statements this event was ok but it wasn't great there were a lot of people that didn't want to enjoy the game as it was meant to be played and wanted to just run off as if it were a normal server.

1) I think if this happens again the plugins are a must and if they aren't working postpone the event until they are.

2) Have the players spawn into a bedrock box (as stated by xlk) to avoid map spoiling and griefing.

3) If players are not participating correctly or just being rude to other players or hosts kick them.

4) Get plugins that allow/disallow specific block destruction.

5) Only let the mods for the game give “gifts” to the players they feel deserve them.

6) Have a slightly smaller map, I for one loved the large map but I only found like 3 people once the game actually started.

But all in all this was not a full success due to many issues and a large portion was due to the players not following rules and the fact plugins were missing causing the game to be played on an honor system which didn’t fair to well.
