Wanted to run a contest? (READ LAST POST)

Link Thread Closed
I'm honestly not sure if I like the nonlinearity part, specially when considering the focus of the contest is speed; it would be way too hard to make a intricate, nonlinear but still very fast-paced level, imo.
Since my previous contest was a failure, I think I may start another one for the heck of it.

It'll still be called the second because the previous one doesn't count. I'll start it once everyone stops pressing their face against their monitor reloading the page every 7 seconds waiting for more on the VLDC.

Anyway:

-----------------------
MercuryPenny's 2nd SMW LDC

Welcome, one and all! The gimmick here is that you sign up, and you are given a level from the original game to build off of the gimmick of it.

This contest will go as such:
- Before the signup period, people will request to judge. There will be three slots.
- During a signup period, you will request to enter.
- After that, there will be a short time while we figure out which level's gimmicks each contestant shall use.
- The entry sending period begins, and the levels are disclosed.

The signup time will be two weeks, and the entry time will be a month. The levels will be judges like this:

Playability: First and foremost, the most important. Is it too hard, easy, boring or buggy to be playable? (-/10)
Creativity: Did the entry use the gimmick creatively? Or is it a boring level that uses the gimmick in a boring way? (-/5)
Gimmick Usage: Did the entry use it at all? Did it use it well? (-/10)
Aesthetics: Does it look nicely decorated? Was it cramped with decoration to the point of confusion? Was it completely devoid of it? (-/5)
Linearity: This is very fragile. Was it boring and flatline? How about confusingly intricate and filled with item babysitting? Or was it mostly linear with a few secrets to look for? (-/10)

-------------

As I said, it won't be opened until the VLDC loses public attention (for the most part). Thoughts? Comments?
Still unsure if it would get many people interested to join the contest.

It's fine to go though, but you could add something else more interesting so that you would get more people to join your contest? Tiny suggestion of course.
Is now a good time to start my Level Design Contest or no?
I really need a layout. :<

I say yes.
Since I'm not commonly known on SMWC, here's my idea:

SuperAgentYoshi's SMW Tileset-mixing/graphics-manipulation LDC

Rules are as follows:
1. You have to mix at least one tileset in your entry
2. You can use YY-CHR to take certain graphics from different files to use in a ExGFX file
3. Custom music is allowed
4. Custom blocks are allowed
5. Patches are allowed
6. No custom or ripped ExGFX from SMWC's Graphics page
7. You can use your own custom graphics, but keep it to a minimum or else your entry will be rejected
8. Your entry must be an IPS file. If you don't know what that is, Click here
9. Send your entry to me via PM
10. Be creative!
11. Have fun!

(btw, can I judge this, or do I have to assign 2-3 judges?)
A contest that requires the participant to make tileset mixing/graphics manipulation is really boring and uninteresting as I doubt someone would join this contest if you're forced to use tileset mixing while making a level.

I must say both rules sound ridiculous, mainly the latter.

Not just uninteresting, but too restrict contest for people join it, I can't see someone with actual interest of joining such a contest like that, sorry. You should rework it more and make it actually interesting to others join, as some won't really like to make tileset mixing or such things if they're going to be mandatory. I don't approve this contest if this is going to be the way you want to run it.
I guess you might as well just call it a choconiila contest, going by the rules, as it's basically a level with mixed SMW tilesets and a few original (but still vanilla-esque) edits. I don't see much wrong with it, but I agree some of these rules are a bit ridiculous.

By the way, I don't see any problem with the restrictions personally, as there are quite a few hackers in this style and they aren't really as bad as they seem, but I agree it probably wouldn't get much attention.

I also suggest having the judging planned when starting a contest, and explaining how entries are going to be judged.
Ok, how about this?

SuperAgentYoshi's Chochonilla LDC

The rules are as follows:

1. Your level must have some sort of custom content in it (Music, Blocks, a patch, etc.)
2. You can only make edits to graphics if they are vanilla-esque
3. Keep any ripped ExGFX down to a minimum
4. Your submission must be an IPS file. If you don't know what that is, click here
5. Be creative!
6. Have fun!

If you're really going to run the contest focusing in an ice-cream definition at least write it correctly.

The contest still isn't that interesting, and it's still to do with the fact you want to run the contest to people only make Choconilla-like levels, I'm not against it but I have the concern that people won't get that interested on participating the contest.
I won't stop you though, I'll let you run your contest if you want but you'll have a week to get at least three users interested on participating your contest else I'll have to cancel it. This will be the condition to you run the contest if you really want to. Well, you're free to run the contest tomorrow.

Also could you please get rid of the Rules 5 and 6? They aren't even rules but only something that people who run contests say to the participants as recommendations after dictating the rules of a contest.
Ok, lemme give it one more shot

There, happy Mirann?
It's good to go. Just merge the Rules 1 to 3 into one as you did in the previous try of running this contest.
But feel free to already make the thread of your contest.
Where do I go for judge application?
It's your contest so you should be one of the judges.
Sure, you can try finding some judges by asking on the discussions thread of your contest.
I want to do something different, and this is my first shot in making a contest. One question: Could I cancel it if no one is joining after some time? That said, here I go.

TheDarkOnyx's 1st Kaizo Level Design Contest

I will be the judge (may look for others), and it goes like so...

1. Creativity
2. Hardness (NO walljumps, moderate use of glitches is allowed and no pit levels.)
3. Length (Personally, I don't like short Kaizo levels. Extend it and surprise me!)
4. Custom blocks and sprites are allowed
5. Must be in .IPS format
6. 6 Weeks time to complete it. (That should be more than enough time.)

I hope this idea is to be approved.

I think you should elaborate more. Depending on how long they need to be, that might make some people less likely to join since they'd have to think of enough ideas to maintain creativity for a long level length. But good luck if you do get this approved.
Legacy custom music
A site with a non-useless dislike button
SMW hacking channel

Half room long minimum, and no more than 3 rooms. Does that sound reasonable? And thanks. I'm going to need it.
