Guys, I have a big (ish) announcement! Azure and I are hosting a short little contest! As stated in my dA journal...

Quote
Hey, so, a couple times in my journal I have blabbed about the game I am working on with my Azure, and begged you guys to give it a try. Well...now for something a little different. How would YOU like to contribute something to our game?

That's right - Azure and I are hosting a contest in order to give you guys a chance to have a part in Copy Kitty. In an upcoming release of the game we are going to be adding boss enemies for the game's Mission Mode -- and although we already have many boss ideas planned out, we would like to give you all a chance to make a boss of your own to be featured in our game! Send me some drawings and/or text descriptions of what you think would be an awesome boss to see in the game. The one that we think would all around make for the most awesome boss will be included in the game! As Azure said in the blog post for this contest:

"It can be as simple as a paragraph describing how it looks, but more details will help - a sketch of it, or a description of how it moves and attacks. It should fit with the theme of the rest of the enemies, but of course you can be creative!

Note that it will be judged based on the graphic design and behavior - whether it will be a fun boss, NOT how well you draw it. Although drawing it well certainly wouldn’t hurt! You have until the end of the month (about two weeks from now) to submit something, but you can change your design or add more details later as long as you’re reasonable about it."

So there you have it! But, as an added bonus for anyone here on dA reading this right now...there's an additional prize you can win! Whoever's design gets picked will also receive a free full-color art request from me!

...So what are you waiting for? Why not give it a shot? It will make us both very happy, and you might get to see your concept come to life! The contest deadline is Nov. 30. Good luck!

So yeah, doodle up/describe the best cool boss idea you can think of, and you will have a chance of seeing your idea used in our game, plus get a drawing from me! Artistic ability doesn't matter in this contest - it just has to be a cool idea. So if you're interested, why not give it a shot? :3
Sounds cool. What kind of bosses are you guys looking for? I'm not too great at drawing, but I should at least be able to get the point across, and I can certainly come up with a description in writing.
Anything you can think of! As long as it's overall robotic/mechanical in appearance, practically anything is acceptable for the contest. ^_^;
Working on a boss design as well, I told Azure about it, posting here before I forget.

Basically, it's a monstrous hologram projected by a shy cloaking robot. The hologram is invulnerable to all damage, but it has an aura that is subtly pulled towards the robot, allowing you to pinpoint its location. The robot is immune to combination weapons while cloaked, so you can't just use full-screen attacks. When you manage to hit the robot, it uncloaks and the hologram temporarily fizzes out. You get a chance to unload your weapons into it, and then the cycle restarts.

Imma try to doodle it :V
Oh, I should also ask...do you get the boss's weapon from defeating it (like in a Mega Man game)?
Well, in most cases bosses will not have much point in dropping weapons, since they will be their own individual "missions" that will conclude upon their defeat, but let's just say that in some cases there might be a situation where bosses dropping weapons *might* be a relevant possibility.

However, here at my university I seem to be starting to learn how to suck less at digital art than I have in the past. As such, for once I have made something in Photoshop that I feel is actually presentable here on dA. I know I'm not the best at this at all by any means, but...I hope you like it anyway! ^_^;

Also, the deadline for the mini-contest is right around the corner - Nov. 30, to be exact, which is in about a day. If anyone has started any submissions for the contest so far but do not think you will be able to finish in time, let me know. The deadline is not completely inflexible, so if people need more time we could possibly extend the contest a bit.

Also, post 3000. Yay?

oh my god, it's our favorite cute little butterfly-winged dog alien thingy (sorry i can't remember her species name) again! I was starting to miss her. This is the best Lymia drawing i've seen so far.

Well, looks like it's my first time posting here.

Firstly, your art don't strike me visually, but with the concept.
i'm not that friendly of your coloring style (Not the case with your new drawing of Lymia, that is very well made) But i do love how much creativity you use to concept most of your characters. Your lineart is also pretty cute, and i think creativity and drawing is your srong point, coloring isn't. It's just an opinion though.

I made an fast concept of a boss for you. here it is.
Link
He's an kind of Parasite, with mechanical arms. Launch torpedos and various kinds of bullets, he summons small parasites that try to get attached to the player, when this happens, the controls get messed up, until they disappear. The eyes in his body summons dark balls. They explode when hit, or if they get near enough to the player, and that's the best opportunity to give critical deals of damage to the boss, by exploding them near his back. That's pretty much all i have.

I've been gone from this site for awhile and missed checking this thread out (and I forgot DA for some reason). I must say that your art has been something that has always interested me and it is wonderful that you keep doing what you do a great job of. The styles and the way you do it all just inspires me to draw/write and to think of my story. I just wish I could attempt to draw something of my story without thinking I'll screw up and make what I draw look bad.

I have practiced drawing for a Game Maker project I was working on for class but it is nothing but 20X20/20X40 images. I so would love to draw Sara from my short story. Maybe I should have you work on her for me. ;) I would be super inspired then! (You should still have that Kingrayon concept sketch you did a long while ago. And I would love to chat with you sometime about it if you can find time.)

Winner of the contest has been announced! Click here for more details!

Big thanks to everyone who participated, and also to everyone who still likes my art and/or visits this thread regularly!

(Also, @Superderek: we can probably talk sometime, but bear in mind that I'm a busy person as always; in fact, arguably moreso than ever, so...*shrugs*)
Wow, Ludus did an amazing job as well as the other participants.
Congratulations!

Edit: Yeah, it seems the more awesome a person is, the busier he is. At least with the people I chat with. :)

Hahah. Amazing =D
Happy that i won ^^ Even though i haven't seen the other bosses, I guess I'll take a look at them now. Also the artwork you did looks quite interesting, reminds me a lot of DSC's work.

Oh, and about the prize, the drawing request. Do i need to send you a PM or something?

Hi guys.

(oh, and for the record, Lymia is in an...alternate form of sorts in this picture, which I will explain what that means later. I just thought I would mention that in case anyone was wondering what was up with her wings)

I still want to know what is supposed to be that giant thingy that is attacking everything. lol

To be sincere, i always find something of strange regrading shapes, but i like how the lights work, since where there is the fire source there is more light that hits objects.

Well, the thing that is attacking is called Asmoedeus. Asmodeus is a horrific monstrosity created by combining 5 of the Cybers (Recoil, Shrapnel, Inferno, Riptide, and Grapple) together, as well as loads of the lesser "Constructs" that serve as minor minions of the Cybers.

I'm glad you like the lighting in the pic. On the other hand though, I guess you're saying the lineart itself could have been better?

Also...

Here's a pic of Lymia in some Spring-themed clothing that I drew a week or so ago. I wonder how much the people here still like her...I remember years ago Lymia used to be really popular around here (even to the point of her almost being like an "unofficial mascot" of this place or something, heh), but now most of the people who were around during those times seem to have either left SMWC over the years, or have forgotten about her and/or don't comment my art thread anymore. (though to be fair, I did also go a few months without posting in this thread, but still)

I dunno. In general I am feeling pretty nostalgic lately regarding SMWC. A lot of things come and go in 5 years of hanging out here...

I have to admit, Lymia in that image looks quite lovely in that outfit.
I'd like to see her in her alternate forme (not fighting the constructs).

Haven't posted here for a while, but i certainly do.

You got much better at lighting/shading, i see. I still remember the old drawings.

Here's Lymia in that currently-unnamed "ascended" form that you see her in while fighting Asmodeus. It may undergo some digital editing later on, but I still like how it looks at the moment. Somewhat rarely, when an entanma faces a situation of intense emotional strain, they can be driven to undergo something called "ascension." Ascension is a temporary state of being marked by a tremendous boost in power, as well as sudden, potentially drastic changes in physical appearance.

In Lymia's case her ordinary gossamer wings get replaced by giant ethereal ones, her outfit changes slightly, and her eyes glow a harsh yellow-orange color. Her ordinary powers to manipulate light, electromagnetism, and radiation all become even more deadly and effective, to the point where she can perform nuclear fusion and incinerate her foes with bursts of solar plasma. If anyone reading this has played the Touhou games, then think of her powers being somewhat similar to Utsuho's, except instead of Lymia being a maniacal sun-crow she's a fluffy fairy...thing.

Whatever, let's just move on. :P

I have not drawn Grapple since all the way back in 2009. Needless to say, a few updates to his design were in order.

I chose the "rust" motif because it not only makes him look quite "corrupted" and vile-looking, but also has a vague resemblance to the brownish-reddish scabs that form over a particularly nasty wound as it starts to heal. Grapple is a Cyber whose tactic is to physically mutilate his enemies into submission, so likewise I patterned his whole body to more or less resemble one big walking wound. Creepy. :E

Paradigm, the Cyber of Conspiracy. I honestly forget if I have yet shown her on this site or not, but eh...whatever. She is a very important Cyber, with the ability to bend and manipulate the fabric of reality. She is responsible for making many different dimensional pathways and "warp points" that the Cybers can use for fast and secure travel regardless of spatial distance. She is also constantly building upon the Providence System, which is a network of countless little machines that spans the borders of many dimensions/universes that the Cybers take interest in. She can use the Providence System to monitor countless locations, constantly collecting valuable data and making her nigh-omniscient.
