Dammit, stuck again. I'm missing two red coins in 4-7, which means I can't access the much-touted Cave of 50 Trials. Could you please help, Golden Yoshi? I can list the coins I've already found if you want.

Edit: Found 'em. I'd forgotten about the hint block in a previous level that said that doors lead to different places when in different positions. Clever and obscure, yet in retrospect, completely fair. That's a hallmark of good game puzzle design.

Heh, sorry I'm not quick enough to help you. :P Glad you were able to find the solution on your own, though. ;) I try to be as fair as possible. :)

I always thought the moving doors was a neat trick, although, I wasn't sure if many people would think of doing that, so I made sure to put in a message box explaining that. :)
Warning, minor spoilers.

I love Yoshi's Island and this hack. However I've been playing the same level for five hours and still can't get 100%; only 90%. You can probably guess I'm missing a hidden flower.

It's 1-4, Brice the Boo's Fort

1. Before the spikes on the first ride
2. In the door after the ride
3. Above the spikes after ridding the turny arrow thing
4. Right after that on that dizzy-looking thing that moves back and forth

5.?

I'm guessing it should be up top or after the key as there's a long stretch without any flowers, but I can't seam to find it.

Thanks!

Found it haha. Wow that was well done. Bravo.
Ack...I'm always a minute too late when helping people find items. :P

Nonetheless, it's good that you were able to find it on your own. ;)
Hi folks,

I will preface this by saying I am not good at this game (even the original Yoshi's Island) so apologies if I am missing the obvious!

Anyways, this is a wonderful variant of the original game. Much more difficult and devious, though!!

I am at a stage (I think it is area 3-8) where there is a yellow curtain with a pit of spikes underneath. My guess is that getting across this area requires having Yoshi hover, tuck his head into a part of the curtain. Yoshi soon slips from the curtain, and then I try to hover again, and move left, the next part of the curtain. I've been trying to do this (hold down hover button, then press left) but Yoshi only does this once... if I'm very lucky maybe twice... and he ends up falling into the spike pits below. I enjoy the animation of him getting spiked, but I feel it's about time for me to move onwards in the progression of the game.

Could somebody shed some light on how to get past this section? My feeling is that the approach seems correct, but the button/direction pad sequence is wrong. Doesn't help that I am mashing the buttons when I see Yoshi start to slip... I never encountered such a dilemma in the original game (but then again, I never completed it, and getting over 75% completion for any given stage is a near-miracle for me ^_^)

This variant has been a great challenge so far! Thanks in advance!

That's my first hack, SMW2+. This thread is about my second hack, SMW2+2.

Anyway, those yellow things were always tricky. It took me a while to figure out exactly how to use them. Here's how it works:

1. Jump into the yellow stuff and hold down B.
2. You will then fall out of the yellow stuff. At this time, quickly hover to the next area of yellow stuff.
3. Here's the most tricky part: Once you re-enter the yellow stuff, quickly RELEASE, then hold down B button again while still in the yellow stuff. If you don't do this, you'll just fall to the ground after coming out of the yellow stuff.
4. Repeat.

I've always thought that yellow rubbery stuff was an oddly programmed object in the game. It required precise timing to use, and the game offered no explanation on how to use it.

Much like the directional coins in SMW. It took me until actually hacking the game to figure out that they could be controlled by the button you press. :P
Golden Yoshi,

Sorry, I plead ignorance there; I now just took a look at SMW2+2 Demo and it will be fun to try that out, too! SMW2+ seems like a seamless extension to SMW2 (except a bit more sadistic), wonderful job.

Thanks also for explaining how the yellow curtain/fluff mechanism works. After some trial and error from following your tips, I finally started getting the hang of it.

I thought it was kind of strange, too, that that yellow stuff did not seem to be documented anywhere (well... I glanced at the big faq for SMW2 in gamefaqs, for a hint, and it didn't mention anything). I do appreciate how you actually put that stuff to true use in your variant (well... not at first, but after you explained it ^_^)

I'll stop now, and any future comments I put here will truly be on topic (SMW2+2). Looking forward to trying it! Thanks!!
Eh, it's alright. It's pretty easy to get confused between the two hacks. There's only a one character difference between the two hack titles. :P

And I've actually released the full version of SMW2+2, not just the demo. This one is less sadistic than SMW2+. :P
I just began to play your hack, and it is the first YI hack i ever played, and it is really good.Nice levels and you see how much work you put into it.I think we can expect the same with your SMW hack!!But im sure its going to be good i watched a few videos.
Golden Yoshi, in SMW2+2, how did you relocate Timmy the Tap-Tap to another fortress without leaving him already big whenever you enter his room?
You asked this in three separate threads. Wait for an answer. >_<
Nice Hack i love it!

Edit:Why did I edit old Posts?Oh yeah,I did an mistake ;D

By the way, I gaved up hacking SMW. I think I'll come back, but not yet. ~ X-King
How come Earl the Unshaven's untransformed state was blue instead of pink?
Today marks 10 years since the release of the full SMW2+2 hack. Thanks to all those who played the hack over the years. I recently loaded the hack onto my SNES Classic it runs decently (biggest problem is some occasional slowdown).

I was originally planning a special 10 year anniversary edition of the hack where I'd replace one Extra or Secret level per world with a new level, but didn't get around to that. Maybe for the 20th anniversary.

Cheers.

!! <3 <3 <3 <3 !! Magnificent work, my dude :) Yoshi's Island deserves more ROM hacks and your work in that community is awe-inspiring!<3

Coincidently, I just tried to play SMW2+2 for the first time and on actual SNES hardware via the SD2SNES flash cart. Super recently devs in the SD2SNES community were finally able to get super FX games to run on the SD2SNES, making Yoshi's Island compatible!

Unfortunately, however, like other Yoshi's Island ROM hacks, I couldn't get them to work on real SNES hardware. This could be either a problem with the ROM hacks themselves in regard to running on real SNES hardware, or, further work needs to be done for super FX game compatibility on the SD2SNES as this inherent compatibility is still in beta and only released publicly recently!

You need to remove the header from the ROM in order to be able to play on SD2SNES.
